How so? Perhaps you've heard of Larry Johnson, who was the near-unanimous selection for 1992 Rookie of the Year, he of the 19/11 rookie season... a two-time All-Star, and heralded as a can't-miss player, and went, in four short years, from low-post terror to three-point specialist to out of the league, a hurt back alleged to be the reason for his decline. Or how about another can't-miss guy, who was drafted a year later, a college superstar by the name of Christian Laettner? One-time All-Star, averaged 17 and 8 through his first five years in the league, and came into the league heralded as the Great White Hope? One torn achilles tendon later and, poof! He gone. A year later, there was this other guy... super athletic, could do everything on the basketball court, was praised by some as being the "next Magic Johnson," and one half of a dynamic duo that everyone was sure was going to form the nucleus of a championship dynasty in central Florida. There were few players that were thought to be more can't-miss than Anfernee Hardaway, but miss he did.

The point being that Shawn Kemp didn't start his career as Shawn Kemp. In fact, for most of his career, Shawn Kemp was SHAWN KEMP~! He became Shawn Kemp.

EDIT - I don't understand you people who claim not to watch the All-Star Game at all. "Black Thanksgiving" (credit Michael Wilbon) is, like, a national holiday with me. It's the one time of the year that I get together with all my friends and enjoy everything that happens that weekend. One of these years, we're going to have to try and set it up so that we can afford to go to All-Star ourselves. But, I mean, it's great! **** the college bowls, superbowl, March Madness, all that other ****... "Black Thanksgiving" is where it's at!
I have never heard of Larry Johnson and I didn't even watch basketball when Laetner was playing. So I can't really comment on any of that stuff. I also never watched Shawn Kemp play so there really isn't anything to talk about and just let it all play out.

Just because you weren't around when Wilt scored 100 doesn't mean it never happened. Just saying.

What the... Dude, you started it! If you've never even seen Kemp play, then why did you make such an ignorant comment? Why did you make a statement like "Blake Griffin is no Shawn Kemp," as though you had any idea what you were talking about, then?

I don't watch the probowl either. I may not even watch the Superbowl this year...no interest in either team. Sounds like a boring game...
I could care less for either team myself but I'll probably watch it because it's the last we will see of the NFL in quite some time.

You sound mad, why?
i think he's more confused than mad. most people dont understand why you would say that when you havent seen kemp play. how can you compare 2 things that you havent seen. you either just said it, just to say it, or u literally mean that blake griffin is not the same person as shawn kemp.

And, the thing of it is, no matter which one it is (either you're talking out your ***, or you're being a "literal nazi"), there's not an option in there that reflects well upon kingsboi.

Well what I'm saying is that Shawn Kemp still ain't no Blake Griffin, regardless if I haven't seen Shawn Kemp play. Blake Griffin is Blake Griffin, I mean that's the way I see it.

Exactamaldo.

Not mad at all. Just perplexed. If you mean that Blake Griffin and Shawn Kemp are literally not the same person, then there's no sense in going on. If you mean that they play differently, one is better than the other, etc., well, if you haven't seen one of them play -- ever -- then how can you make a definitive statement one way or the other?

As Timon said: "What's goin on here? Who's the monkey?!?"

I'm sorry we don't see eye to eye.

I agree with Slim. Speaking for myself, it comes across as though you are willfully ignorant. Your first statement was clearly interpreted by everyone as saying "Blake Griffin's game isn't like Shawn Kemp's game" and when persons who saw Kemp in action started to discuss that statement, you admit that you've never seen Kemp play. Nothing wrong with that, but rather than admitting that your initial statement was flawed (you can't compare Blake with someone you've never seen), you stick to saying "well, Blake Griffin isn't the same person as Shawn Kemp." That's just misplaced stubbornness.
