2009 SF Giants Thread

The bat that we could most likely acquire is Nick Freaking Johnson from what I have read...And for Jon Sanchez? No thank you.

Ill pass...Ill keep hoping Sanchez learns control, and Ill keep hoping Ishi can be consistent, ala his Spring Training.

Until there is a *real* bat on the market (ala Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins 2 or so years ago) will I be accepting an offering of a Sanchez/TOP-prospect combo.

Sanchez has to much stuff to aquire a decent at best 31 year old oft-injured position player to unseat a young player.

I just hope Sabes doesn't pull another AJ Pierzynski fiasco because thats apparently what we want/need.
It's worse... Sabean is actually dangling Matt Cain!
What a joke.

If Sabean is dangling Matt Cain, I will revolt if we don't get back a Ryan Braun/Miguel Cabrera talent.

Cain is WAY to good to 'dangle' unless there is a PREMIER plus-plus young bat coming back.

Cain is showing his potential, and still YOUNGER than Lincecum, and will only get better...

Cain needs to stay.

Just imagine... In two years,
Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, Alderson, Sanchez/Zito.

This could be a starting five of LEGENDS

Was at the game tonight. Game 1 against the Cardinals. Giants won 4-2. Great all around game for SF. Great pitching, timely hitting and stellar defense.

Burriss made up for an error by making a Web Gem that helped preserve the lead.
Cain is now 6-1 and dealing! Pablo had a great game and Rowand continued to excel in the leadoff spot.

On a different note, was able to arrive early and catch some of Pujols' BP and let me tell you - this guy is insane. Very fun to watch, and I believe he had the loudest cheers of the night, even among Giants.

Congrats to Randy!
He pitched a great game!

And Brian Wilson tires to give us fans yet another heart attack. The Cardiac Kid pulls it of yet again.

Im 100% enjoying Giants baseball this year.
Even with the lame offense, we're a pretty competent team for the first time since Bonds was axed.

What do we have here?

Is it?
Could it be?

Do the Giants actually have a pretty good team out on the field?!
Man, this pitching staff is MONEY...If we can get into the playoffs with a Lincecum/Cain punch...Anything is possible!

Looks like we'll be taking out the brooms for the A's. Cain with another solid start.

Indeed SLAB, if we can somehow get in the playoffs, we will be dangerous with our pitching staff.

Sabean....Get us a bat!!! 32 team HR's?? Pathetic.

As an aside, I attribute the turnaround this year to the fact that my favorite Giant ever, one William Nuschler Clark, is affiliated with the team once again.

Go Giants!

Matt Cain is a BEAST this year!
Wow has the kid put absolutely EVERYTHING together this year!
Simply wow!

And an inside the parker! That was fun to watch.
This TEAM is fun to watch!

As for trading...
As long as the trade package for a bat resembles Winn/Sanchez/Lewis I'm fine. In no way do I want Cain/Lincecum/Bumgarner anywhere near the trade block.

I think Winn would be good for a young team as a mentor, and an expiring contract. Also, I think Angel Torres is essentially the same type of player. Except he is younger and cheaper.
Sanchez still has so much potential. If a team can harness him he's a #1/2 starter,

Try and get Uggla, cut your losses and DFA/trade Rentaria, and shift Manny Burriss to SS.

And don't forget that the team is actually giving him run support this year.

Nate needs to get his chance. I've been calling for his name all season and he proves that he belongs when he plays. Freddy needs to ride the pine and Andres Torres is a good 4th OF to have.

I was at the game yesterday, and there's a buzz around this team more than there has been in a looong time.

A little late, but I finally saw Lincecum in person Friday evening. Wasn't the sharpest at first, but he got better as the game went along, finishing with a CG shutout. Incredible to watch.

Zito Zito Zito.

Sadly, this is the pitcher I expect everytime he takes the mound, not the one who seemed almost good throughout this season...

If we could rid our team of him it would be a BLESSING.

Idk, he looked like he cared when he was taken out of the game tonight. You could see the burden in his eyes.

What is he supposed to do? Knock over some gatorade?

I did not see the last game but I've seen him a lot and his reactions. I want him to become angrier, not just sadder. Change something. He was good, he moved to Ps' ballpark and he is ... ... . It is not just a bad season ... it is a long story now and everything is the same.

I can't take away Zito *HAS* looked to care this year.
There was actually a point earlier this year when I propped him when he was in a late game situation, and looked PISSED about being yanked.

But he's still Zito.
He maxes at 88mph.
His curve still is hung.

He has been decent-ish this year, but one quarter-season can't undo 2 seasons of puridity.

I want him to be good, I really do, but after his first few seasons in the SF I can only expect the worst..

I am content with Z being a 4th starter, and that's exactly what he is. His contract says otherwise, but he does not get the blame for that - our FO does.

As far as tonight - we ran into a Angels team that was ON. Zito had his worst outing of the year. If we actually gave Zito some run support this year, he would have 3-4 more wins.

BC - As far as the kids coming up, I don't think they will be called up this year, barring major trade or injury. If they do, it'll be during the expanded rosters in September.
If the playoffs started today, we would be in with the Wild Card and we are only 8 games out of the NL West lead. Come late July, the only moves we should be thinking about is acquiring a hitter.

Sanchez gets so easily rattled mentally, and it's happening again tonight. Couple errors, infield hits and he just completely unravels. 2nd night in a row Angels are dominating us.

No Sanchez today and we won...hmmm. Who is this Ryan Sadowski? I don't know anything about him really. Was he just called up? Good to get the last game of this series and avoid the sweep, especially since Wilson came on and choked last nights game away.

Yeah I didn't know anything about Sadowski either until today. Heard a interview with him, and he said he was told on Friday night he'd be starting today. But he also said there were rumors going around that Fresno was going to sell his contract to Japan. So when he got called into the office, the last thing he expected to hear was that he'd be starting in Milwaukee for SF. lol.

He looked good today though, I hope he gets another start.

Sanchez also looked well in his relief role and a 7 run lead..

Nate is getting ABs and killing the ball, ditto with Pablo! I love it!!

Maybe this could be the right move for Sanchez. IIRC, Joe Nathan started out as a starting pitcher with mixed success and ultimately became an all star reliever/closer.

The offense does seem to be coming around a bit and with our starting pitiching, I am really optimistic about our wild card possibilities. :D

He is amazing. Right now, he has to be the NL front runner for Cy Young again.

But how about our offense?! I am really feeling this lineup:

Rowand
Winn
Pablo
Bengie
Nate S.
Edgar
Ishi
Uribe

They seem to be clicking. Then you got Torres, Downs and Richie on the bench. I like it!

One of the most impressive guys lately has been Uuuu- riiiii - bay! I remember wanting this guy back when the White Sox won the series and now we finally have him! Even though it is on the downside of his career, he has been a great 7th or 8th place hitter. Not to mention he has brought some stability to our infield defensively. That homer tonight was HUGE. Big Mac land!

In other news, Sadowski will start again on Friday vs Houston.

I *REALLY REALLY* hope Sabean doesn't succumb to trading a top-tier prospect (Bumgarner, Villalona, Alderson, or anyone else) for a decent-ish bat ala Jermaine Dye or Mark Teahen.

This team AS IS is pretty good, and only getting better with Scherholtz/Ishikawa hitting their grooves and a plethora of young guns in the minors.

Not to mention the PHENOMINAL pitching staff!

I really hope Sabes doesn't muck it up by giving away the future.

This team should be AWESOME in a few years, no need to muck up for a quick rush to the playoffs.

Especially as this team is showing playoff potential without the worthless old-guy pieces.
