More hope...... maybe I shouldn't (Rubio rumor)

No kidding. It's also quite bizarre to hear a player (or rather his agent) say that he might refuse to play somewhere because he wants to play for Sacramento. I mean, I know we're a much larger media market than either Memphis or Oklahoma city, but it still seems a bit strange.
That's why I'm ok with Rubio (or his agent) voicing his opinion on the matter... He is doing it because he really needs to get endorsements to pay off his team, not because he thinks he is better than everyone else and deserves better so he demands to go to LA or NY like Kobe.

It may be Fegan leaking this stuff, but still technically it's coming from "inside sources" and anonymous quotes.

It was a pre-packaged deal because Kobe's agent was telling teams he wouldn't report. The hornets knew LA was interested, so they drafted him anyway to deal Kobe as a commodity. They never drafted him with the intention of playing him because they knew he wouldn't play. If he was willing, I'm not so sure they would have made that deal. And they didn't steal anything from GP.
Fine, you agree it was a pre-packaged deal. Who cares what the motivations were? The fact is that Petrie had him in his cross hairs and LA double escrowed Kobe just before Petrie was set to take him. (This has been reported numerous times). Do you think that just maybe that LA knew that Petrie was going to take him? Of course they did. Petrie was waiting and LA was acting. And for a decade we've been paying the price...

Jason Thompson will probably be needed including our 4th pick for Memphis to even consider even trading with us. I've heard rumors that CHI is looking to trade Tyrus Thomas...I think we can pick him up this offseason --- filling our hole in th PF position.
We shouldn't trade Jason or Spencer for the second pick.

I guess there's a easier way to get Rubio. Don't know how true this is, but, maybe the Kings could just buy the pick and send over our #31st pick as well. I know the Maloofs are trying not to save money or not spend as much, but if this is a option, I think they might consider it. They get both the 2nd and 4th without giving any young guys in return.

The second option for the Grizzlies is to cash out the pick. The Number 2 pick could return a large variety of assets for the Grizzlies including cash. It's no secret the Grizzlies are struggling financially, and while news of the #2 pick has drummed up interest from season ticket holders, where exactly does the #2 pick play? The Grizz are loaded at virtually every position on the floor, so in essence you moving out a bonafide starter for a rookie or you are drafting a role player second overall. Not a good business move. The most cash that can be sent in a trade is $3 million. League sources contend that an offer of a pick in the top 10, $3 million in cash and a promising prospect or future draft pick might be enough compensation for the Grizzlies who clearly do not need another young player to be tempted to move it.

# 4, # 31/or Donte Greene, and $ 3 million

for

# 2 pick.

Why not? I like it.

ugh there are so many scenarios but i just lack faith that petrie wont do the usual on draft day...draft some unknown guy that none of us expected and not make any other moves on top of that.

Too much to give up and i'm not ready to throw away Donte just to get Rubio nor would I trade all of our picks for him either. We can wait for him and most likely get him if his agent and him throws hell like we are hearing they are. If we don't get him again not the end of the world. I like having an athletic guard like a Jennings or an Evans true point or not. I hope for Rubio but the future of this team isn't all about him we are trying to rebuild and we need more pieces not one piece.

You must be forgetting Petrie WITH assets. Think back between 98-02 the type of trade he was able to pull off. We're back with those same kinds of assets. He's ABLE to trade now, no more GARGANTUAN deals, no more deadweight. We have picks, prospects and cap to spare now. I totally see Petrie pulling a rabbit out of his hat this off-season. I see Rubio in a Kings uniform, honestly.

Really? I would.

The only untouchables are Martin/Thompson/Hawes.

I'd put together any other package.

I'm not necessarily saying he's untouchable, but there's something about him I like outside of his personality as a team mate. I just think he has a lot of potential and can be a nightmare for teams when he develops he could be our rashard lewis, but I think he's more athletic he just needs to get in the weight room where he is right now. So that's why I wouldn't trade him plus I don't think we should sell the farm for Rubio he's good, but he's not magic

Agree.. I am still pissed about last year. I still think Petrie could have got both Chalmers, and Jordan for next to nothing. There were picks basically going for cash last year, and swaps of 2nd rounders like there was no tomorrow. Jordan proved he can defend, block shots and rebound given the chance. He could have been our guy off the bench we were looking for. Plus he is REAL young. Chalmers could have been here instead of Beno. Instead we have a high priced backup PG who is pretty much untradeable.

You would have rather had Mario Chalmers and DeAndre Jordan over Thompson? Really?

I think the article implies that we would not need to give the #4, but rather JUST the money - or else the Grizz would still have a high pick + their salary to deal with. Doesn't make much sense otherwise.

#4 + Donte or #23 will probably suffice if the Grizz are looking to deal.

I think what he's saying is that a competent GM would have packaged both our 2nd rounders to move up and draft Chalmers and/or Jordan.

A whole lot better than wasting the picks on the training camp fodder that was Sean Singletary and Patrick Ewing Jr.

It said a pick in the top 10, 3 mil, and a promising prospect/future pick.

so are the maloofs willing to spend this time?

they have to consider bringing in this kid

i dont want them blowing the capspace or any kind of funds on carlos freakin boozer.. for 13 or 10 mil?

3mil is such a small thing for what he can bring to the franchise...

the top pick for next year could be a protected top 5... we cant suck bad again next year... were not the clippers

I caught the end of Grants show today and he was talking to someone that I beleive is a Memphis announcer. He stated that he believes that Memphis is going to draft Thabeet. I don't know how much inside info he has so take it for what its worth...

It doesn't MATTER if GP picked him if he was serious about not playing. Nobody called his bluff, so we won't ever know, but I do know that Kobe is a huge arrogant *** and it wouldn't surprise me if he actually did sit out a year. So stop thinking the Kings were screwed from having Kobe, because Kobe probably wouldn't have ever played here, and if he didn't sit out, he wouldn't have stayed and re-signed. He probably would have asked for a trade or just waited until his rookie deal ran out.

I'm glad we didn't get him. If we are going to win a championship with a superstar I don't want one that thinks his crap don't stink.

I think Petrie's future with the organization depends on how this off season goes. I'm sure the Maloofs want Rubio and the excitement he would bring to sac. I expect Petrie to do everything possible to pull off a deal with Memphis. Petire's contract is up after next season, he can't afford sit back and do nothing.

The 3 mil that the Maloofs may have to give up wouldn't really matter because they would very likely make a lot of money by how many more people would come to the games and a few other things.

Now i disagree totally and you cant possibly mean that, its freaking Kobe Bryant were talking about here. But i dont wanna derail the topic so off i go.
Yes I'm serious. Id rather lose with heart for the next 100 years than win with his pompous *** on our team... I love being the underdog. I don't want our first trip to the finals as the Sacramento Kings to be solely because we draft another basketball ngod. I want to win as a team, not a one man show.

I keep seeing this idea brought up, and just don't get it. Not only are you creating a hole at PF, it would be for a player that might be a star PG in the NBA. With Thompson we have a solid PF who could turn into a very good PF for years to come. You don't trade that for a player who may or may not be a star PG.
