Fighting Offseason Boredom Activities

#1
Its been a looooong offseason thus far hasn't it? Well, I'm proposing we get together and pretend something's going on so the boredom does not set in too deeply between now and the time the camps open (which hopefully happens in April...collective bargaining agreement negotiations willing). Since the family will likely be gathering to go to Stanford in November to see the National Team's exhibition with the Cardinal and again back at Stanford for the Tennessee game, we need something in October.

I propose a gathering Saturday afternoon on October 13th (location and exact time TBA later this week as soon as the logistics have been worked out)At this gathering we'll be meeting at a local establishment to enjoy a encore video performance (or two) of great games in Monarchs' history, or involving Monarchs players or players we wish could be Monarchs as collegians or national team members ;) and possibly either the high school basketball documentary "Heart of the Game" or the Rutger's documentary "This is a Game Ladies"

If you're interested in joining or have game video of a great game you're willing to share, let me know via pm or post here. Like say, for instance, does any one have video of game 1 of the 2004 WCF against Seattle?

If anybody has any suggestions for other activities bored Monarchs fans can partake in? Please post them here...we've got a looooooong way to go to get to the 2008 season....

:)

I would love to get together with Monarchs fans, but I am not available on the 13th unless it is not before 4 p.m. All other Saturdays in October are open.

As it turns out the room isn't available until after 3, so it worked out. ;)

Saturday, October 13th 4pm
Round Table Pizza - Camelot Room
4680 Natomas Blvd
Sacramento, CA

This is the Raley's shopping plaza behind ARCO Arena, off Del Paso

Here's what Monarchs' games I'll bring for us to decide which to take a peek at...

2006 Game 1 Round 1 against Houston
2004 Game 3 Round 1 against Los Angeles

I'll also bring along some college stuff and we see if any piques anybody's interest beside me ;)

One of my all time favorite NCAA tournament games a 2004 meeting between Minnesota and UCLA....if you hadn't heard of the UCLA big three or McCarville/Whalen before this game you did after they were through. I also have three other down to the wire regional final games which all featured big name players from the class of 2004. More Whalen/McCarville, an epic final game for Stanford by Nicole Powell, a ridiculous game from Augustus.

I've got a star studded Tenn UConn game from 2000, if you stop a minute and consider the players on the court that afternoon...Catchings, Snow, Lawson, Abrosimova, Bird, Cash, Williams, Jones and a frosh off the bench Taurasi. I've got a regional final from the 2004 tournament - with Kara handling the color commentary in a game that involved her future teammate Scholanda Hoston

Is that the game where Semeka Randall tangled up with Svetlana Abrosimova in a loose ball scramble, and Svet hit her head on the floor? Or was that the year before?

Super cool MBF...See ya there around 3:30.
That will be fun going back to the college games of these players.
Thanks for setting everything up & we get pizza to boot!

Might have to go shoot a few hoops & work it off afterwards;)

If you are coming to this event, and you drink diet soda, please bring some. I have several kinds of regular soda in my fridge, but I'm almost out of diet.:)

We Need a Field Trip

We still need gatherings! And we need to get on our scouting!

Cal-Berkeley's women's basketball team is hosting its annual December tournament, however by virtue of a good news/bad news situation, the admission will be free for all 4 of their upcoming home games next week. The good news is that their women's volleyball team was awarded first and second round hosting for the NCAA tournament (Go Bears!) the bad news is the days are, well, next week on days the women's basketball team had games scheduled.

Long story short, I was already planning to go to next Sunday's game against Vanderbilt (1pm) but fans will have full run of the place on the house. Come see the Bears' post play (Ashley Walker people...seriously...I'm not adverse to having her here in 09 and having the equipment managers have to sew D's and A's on jerseys with the name "Walker" on the back, really, I'm not) and Vandy's Liz Sherwood is eligible to declare for the 08 draft if she decides to give up the year of eligibility left.

Need directions to Haas Pavillion on the Cal campus?
