...except that Seattle still kept pace by beating the slumping Indiana Fever today. LauJack scored 27 points to beat the Fever. She also became the youngest and fastest (in terms of age - 26 years) to hit the 4,000-point mark in the WNBA.

Also, the PHX Mercury edged the Chicago Sky, 98-96.

WTG, to my girl, Svetlana Abrosimova, for having a 23-point game to help the Minny Lynx beat the Sparks! (Props also should go to Seimone Augustus, who also had 23 points)

Although it has nothing to do with the Western Conference, Detroit's Cheryl Ford has injured left knee and will miss the remainder of the regular season. Whether or not she will recover in time for the postseason is another matter.

Note: Since it appears you'll be keeping a pretty close watch on how things are going "Around the WNBA" for the rest of the season, I took the liberty of stickying this thread to the top of the forum.

:)

Yeah thanks VF21...everybody feel free to add to the scores ect.
Thanks for the other updates Steven.

I was pulling for Sky big time...that would have really made my night.
I expected Seattle to win, Indiana's hurtin without ''Catch''
Gotta give props to Lauren J. she's on a roll. Making a serious run at MVP.

What if WNBA players were on "The Simpsons"?

From the WNBA website, the "Click And Roll" column has a feature devoted to a website that makes anyone --- including WNBA players --- look like characters from "The Simpsons"!

I don't think the Taurasi one looks anything like her, though! And everyone (except for Bill Laimbeer) looks like they borrowed Tina Thompson's lip gloss

I would love to see what Coach Boucek (with her flashy clothing and bulging eyes) would look like if she got "Simpsonized"! :D

Western Conference Goings On 8/4/7

After watching the LA lay down in San Antonio on NBATV and noting the fact that San Antonio with their win, coupled with LA's loss had clinched a playoff spot along with Phoenix officially. It appears that we need one more win as well to clinch a berth. Seattle has a bit more work to do to clinch but we should be next in line with one more win (which essentially insures that we can't mathematically lose 18 games and have LA and/or Hou roll up on us). The fine team from the Pacific Northwest is currently rolling the HELL out of Phoenix....with a 40-17 first quarter...this night could get VERY interesting if things hold....which they damn well better or ELSE:mad:

Seattle held on to beat Phoenix 111-101 up north. This now creates a virtual tie for the top spot in the West between San Antonio and Phoenix, and we will go into our game tomorrow against Indy a half game back and needing a win to join the first place tie party.

It's RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT there again....do they want it?

Take care of business Monarchs!

Yes! Do they want it is the right question. We, like SA, have the best loss column #. Phx already has one more loss than we do. We have 8 games left and fully 1/2 of those are against the two teams we are battling for the top spot. So, we shall soon see just which team wants it more.

Way to go Seattle, they shot over 70%....damn. That was a quick recovery from LJ? Looks like it's gonna be a dog fight untill the end.
We gotta take care of our business & see where we end up.
Today would be a good start vs. INDY!

Monarchs take care of buisness & clinch a playoff spot:)

San Antonio , Houston, & Seattle lose tonight, still waiting for the outcome of LA & Phoenix...so far a very good night in the WNBA!

So Seattle finally clinches a playoff spot & the West is set. No Comets or Sparks, sounds strange not having them in the postseason.
No games in our favor tonight...The Silverstars , Mercury, & Storm win.
We got 2 former champions & 2 hungry to get there. Both matchups will be tough come playoff time. The road to the finals will be long without home court. I hope that deep bench K-Law speaks of, can give us some valuble minutes & give our offence a jump start.

We gotta get these home wins & heal up some, get some home cookin , sleep in your beds & come out with some energy...I wouldn't be against a blow out or two;)

Come on out fans, the team is gonna need us to be Loud!!

Correct. The last time the Sparks were out of the playoffs was way back in 1998. They also missed out in '97, in the league's first year.

This is the first-ever season that the Sparks AND the Comets will both be out of the WNBA playoffs.

The league has been chomping at the bit to get Taurasi into the postseason, and now it's going to happen. I still say that some strings were pulled for the PHX Mercury to get a #1 pick in this year's WNBA Draft, despite the fact that the Merc finished above .500 last season and had the least likely chances of getting the #1 pick.

It comes down to this...

For the second seed….

Sacramento must win out in their home and away with Phoenix.

AND

San Antonio must lose at least one of its next two games. We also are helped tremendously if Seattle remains under .500.

If San Antonio loses to Indiana but beats Minnesota – I have it going down to the 3rd tie breaker “record against teams .500 or above” If Seattle remains below .500 we would have the same record in this tie breaker (according to my calculations) and it would go to “point differential in head2head meetings” which I believe with the point margin from last night’s game, we eeked out enough points to avoid going to the dreaded “Coin Flip” If Seattle reaches .500, by virtue of the SilverStars playing and beating Seattle one more time than we did, they get the 2nd seed.

If San Antonio beats Indiana but loses to Minnesota – we are the 2nd seed on the conference record tie breaker.

The number 1 seed is still available to San Antonio if Phoenix beats us at least once and San Antonio wins out. We could have a 3way tie at the top with all teams having 21-13 records which could completely suck for the SilverStars….

But for now? Gooooooooooooooooo Monarchs

Gooooooooooooo Fever, and Gooooooooooooo Lynx. :)

I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling the Seattle Storm will leave town after this season. :(
I hope they stay too, but if they do leave, I hope LJ leaves them, and signs with us! We're even closer to Australia ... ;)

It also sucks that the dude who might move tham has the same name as me "Clay Bennett" ... I wish I owned the team, and not him ...:(
