Anybody listening to the pre-game show and game, just chime in with comments here.

Catch is active. Still some question about whether she will play. Indy needs her badly, especially after they got beat up in Connecticut last night.

Our players say they are ready to go, even they had another bad travel situation again. It's tough flying commercially.

Lousy travel, and they are not playing with enough energy. I am hoping we can wait out the Fever who played last night. <sigh>

Let me just make my view perfectly clear. Most of this season, Haynie has sucked...and she's doing the same thing today.

This is not to say she is entirely at fault for today's ugliness. Everyone has a hand in that.

Well, I didn't get the deficit I wanted at the half, but eh...shaving a few points of the half time deficit going into the 4th is ok I guess.

Get your act together ladies...

Post your thoughts: SAC/IND 8/5

18 secs left....55 - 62

blown layups, bad turnovers, lack of energy, off shooting night......a collective bad game by EVERYONE on the team. too bad, we could've won this one with that late game surge had we not had a big hole to begin with.

edit: props to YO. 11 and 9 perhaps the only decent player tonight.

im getting a little worried. :( We simply need to be playing better basketball right now. We have great nights which are then followed by horrible offensive or defensive lapses. The M's cant afford inconsistency at this point, theres just not enough time.

Come on Monarchs, lets kick it into high gear!

i do feel bad for their travel situations though, i've often wondered why they cant use the Kings' private jet

No, can't really say there was a decent player tonight. This was a collective meltdown. Indy got back home I believe earlier this afternoon since they had played in Uncasville last night and had limited options getting back any earlier today.

Yo turned the ball over 5 times today. Those turnovers have to mitigate whatever effectiveness we got from her scoring early, because if those are the points she finished with she didn't score much in the 2nd half. Nice come back towards the end, but not enough solid possessions to take control of their desire to steal the game.

They need to get the game on Tuesday. We are now running through playoff teams fighting for position the next 6 out of our remaining 7 games. This may as well be the playoffs as far as I'm concerned - so they better start getting their stuff together C O N S I S T E N T L Y, we may be the only Western conference team besides maybe Minnesota that has not reeled off a decent sized winning streak this season. Now would be about the right time to get one started and head into the playoffs with...(a spot in which we have not actually assured yet...there's that piece hanging out there too - sure its a formality and all, but its a formality this team should be working consciously to nail down and close out like they need to close out games.)

I don't want to think this...but I had the nagging feeling that if we did not win this game today and take advantage of the opporuntity we had to move up in the standings - we have locked ourselves into the 3rd spot as the only spot as the best we can conceivably finish with without a lot of help. Losing it opens the door to keep Seattle in the conversation for over taking us.

Watched the game at moms....if I was younger she may have washed my mouth out with soap! Frustrating effort by the M's tonight. Always playing catch up, that gets old real quick. I'm gonna chalk this up to travel blues.
No excuses, but we gotta come out & play with a sense of urgency.
The turnovers & missed lay ups are starting to be momentum busters.

If I keep thinking about this long enough, this might keep looking better. If I keep thinking about this REALLLLLLLY long enough I might actually convince myself they won this game ;))

They defended relatively well today, just did not get shots to fall...some of this definitely was their own doing (poor shot selection at times and um...the missing layup thing they like to infuriate us with). They rebounded relatively well, kept the Fever under 70 pts and made their damn free throws. They needed shots to fall, to make layups and to stop turning the @#$#@#$@ ball over 20+ times. If they manage to do these things well in the same game for string of games it might just become habitual. How about humoring us and trying to string games in which you execute on both sides of the ball well...shoot, I'll even take it incrementally, but there cannot be this on again off again good execution and focus on aspects of their execution on both sides of the ball. Preferably, I'd like to see this happen BEFORE the end of the regular season, just so I'm not into the Maalox when the post season starts (once we clinch that berth). Hell, I may be looking to buy that stuff in bulk for the rest of this road trip, who am I kiddin....Dig in ladies, start your win streak NOW....

(Unofficially) I have Yo at 54pts away from 4K.....

I'd like to reprise my comments about Atkinson for a minute: for a change, she didn't play like she had rocks in her head when I saw her, but she didn't do anything to stand out or otherwise justify MBF's faith in her, either... I've only seen a little over half the games this season, but it seems like a colossally improbable coincidence that she just happens to not play well whenever I'm watching... She might be blowing people away in practice, or maybe she was just really impressive in college or something, but I'd rather see those minutes go to someone a little more proven, I think.

About Tangie

I think Tangie has a tremendous up side. She has length and quickness. All things we value here in Monarch land. Her game is steadily improving, and I think her rebounding ability has helped us. More Important I think she is an incredible upgrade to Poor Kim Smith. Turnovers not withstanding, for a second round draft pick I think Tangie was a steal. Long term I think Tangie will be a solid investment.

As for playing someone more proven?

In hindsight I would have liked to see Whiz go after a seasoned vet to fill that back up Three spot. I was watching the SASS game this past weekend, and one of the things mentioned was Shana Zolman Crossley's Improvement and how she really benefited from having Becky Hammon as an example. I remember saying the same thing about Nicole last year. Needing to bring in a vet to mentor Nicole and/or Kara and help her/them be more consistant. That didn't happen, and well at this point Nicole and Kara are too old for mentors.

As it stands now, Tangie is nice with our "Quick Group" on the floor (Sho/Chelsea). She really helps when we press. And at this stage of the game who would we give Tangie's minutes to? I think we have pretty much maxed out the minutes. Nicole is damn near worn down playing the 3 and 4. The Post are maxed out. (Still begs the question why we aquired Frolich), and we are playing a ton of 3 guard line ups.

So I think we have to live with what mistakes we are getting. I think she'll work out.

Way to set that bar...

Well...if she had a 3pt shot she'd be an upgrade to Kim Smith. I'm not sure I'd make that comparison. I think she has tremendous upside and will eventually fit well in this system on both sides of the ball. She passes well, she rebounds well, and when she takes shots she generally has shot well. In the game she last played quality minutes, (when she also was turning the ball over generously) defensively she had 4 deflections to go along with whatever defensive stats they do keep records of. She has a disruptive ability as a defender.

I lost the message I was trying to post earlier so I'll be brief here. Experience in this league is not what's going to get someone playing time in this system, its their ability to pick up and implement the defensive scheme. Coach also, at captain Griffith's suggestion is shortening her bench and changing her rotations so that she has players who play the defense best on the floor late in games FWIW. Seeing that Atkinson's minutes have dropped dramatically since that pronouncement leads me to one conclusion.
