Napear Goes Off on THE Bee Again

#1
Right now on 1140 Grant Napear is blasting The Bee and "his friend" Marty McNeal for shoddy reporting on the whole Jason Hart deal. On how the paper is attempting to make Eric Musselman out to be a liar. About cell phones, telephone numbers, "who shot John" and all kinds of nonsense. Can somebody clarify this story please!!!

I guess this is what happens when you are on a 7 game losing streak.

According to Marty, someone at the Bee screwed up and changed his story or something. He made a call after he read what was in the Bee and the person who edited it had nothing to say.

Marty also said the called ID said unknown caller or something to that effect. It never said Eric Musselman.

If anyone else is listening, feel free to add or make any corrections.

I think Marty McNeal is explaining himself very well. He says that based on his feel or gut, that Musselman is lying about this situation, because he feels that Musselman has not been forthright about other things, such as something simple as giving McNeal his phone number.

I never remember in the years of Rick Adelman, a mess like this ever happening.

Another notch in the Bee's belt. Just another of many examples where stories were fabricated to some degree. From Diana Griego-Erwin and her works of fiction to RE Graswich and his fake stories. But I guess they don't have bad writers - just bad editors.

Marty said the story was about where in an organization someone is lying. It was not supposed to start out with Hart.

There will be a correction in tomorrow's paper but he won't be writing it. He said it was an editing mistake.

Marty also didn't care about the Bee's policy on their writers not being allowed to call into KHTK, so he called to clarify what was really going on with his article.

I have a background in journalism and this sort of "crap" would have never been allowed in my undergraduate classes and with the college newspapers meaning an editor changing and adding parts to an article that the original writer had written. The editors look for mistakes and errors as well as write the article's title. It's one thing for the editor to omit a paragraph or two, but not make significant changes where the facts and story are changed.

The Bee continues to look worse and lose credibility (as if their coverage of the arena issue wasn't bad enough because it was so one sided). I used to subscribe to the Bee but lately their newspaper is just not any good.

Well, the last time I remember a Bee editor making something up and adding it to an article the Kings ended up with Artest almost directly because of it and went 25-14 or something to finish the season.

Maybe this time it will lead to Garnett for Hart!

Better yet, Hart for Memphis, Philadelphia and Charlotte's number one picks!

So is it safe to assume this won't be available to listen to later?

;)

BTW, this isn't the first time an editor at the Bee has done rewriting to an article. Generally, an editor gives the piece back to the writer and suggests changes. Over there, I guess they just skip that part...

I get the early edition of the Bee. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've seen one version of a sports story in my copy of the paper only to see a different version in the later edition. And no, I'm pretty sure the writer hasn't redone their story between the two editions. That falls squarely on the shoulders of the editor...

That's exactly what goes on. I have never worked for the Bee but I would love to see what they could do in a journalism course or for the State Hornet at Sac State. I know Professor Ludwig would nail them for every wrong thing they do at the Bee and it wouldn't be pretty.

McNeal called the show back and began to call Napear on the carpet about him critizing the objectivity of someone, when he gets slammed constantly about working for the Kings and for 1140. And as Marty was politely explaining his point, Napear, said he did not want to hear it and hung up right in the middle of Marty's comment.

Marty ended the conversation by saying "the word gutless that he uses so much must also apply to him" for hanging up like a little female.

Priceless...

Absolutely priceless...

So we're entering Act II of the soap opera, where Howdy Doody starts to lose a few splinters...

I wish it was in German. I love Wagner.

grant napear really annoys me during the CSN west games. he is undoubtedly the biggest homer play-by-play announcer in the league. always arguing officials' calls against the Kings, and whining about everything. he is a much different person on TV and on radio.

He may come off as a homer, but he also is the first one to turn on the team and start talking about their abysmal performances, how they're going to lose if (fill in particulars) does/doesn't happen, AND he makes comments about plays he didn't even see. When I'm doing the PBP I've found more than once that he's atttributed a rebound or assist or foul or turnover to the wrong player because he was too busy arguing some point of minutiae with Jerry. He also tends to make "so-and-so has been pretty invisible this quarter" comments when, more often than not, the player in question might not even have stepped onto the court. (Oh, wait. Technically then, I guess he's right...just like Vlade hasn't done anything to help this team recently.)

I like Jerry though he's great lol, he knows practically everything about the NBA, players, and the game itself. the only thing i like about grant is..."Oh Boy! Turn the sprinkler systems on, __________ is on fire!"

And generally, within two possessions of Grant uttering that famous phrase, said player will immediately go stone cold. He has also jinxed more streaks than I care to remember...

I have to say though, you don't know bad announcing unless you have NBA League Pass and listen to some of the crap that passes for announcing around the NBA. For all of Grant and Jerry's faults, they're some of the best in the league. And yes, it's that bad.

Marty comes on occasionally and you can always tell that Grant and Mike are on glass, or should I say scared when talking to Marty.

However I don't know what is going on here, can someone explain, especially the articles, and the accusations of lying?
