Fun Artest stat-line...

Just reading around on Ron's site, came across these...

Against the Heat on 3/31/02 Ron almost got a quadruple double - 24 pts, 9 asts, 9 rebounds, 8 steals. The eight steals were the most by any Pacer in the last 10 seasons, one short of the team record. Also had 2 blocks. They won the game too, BTW. ;)

In the week ending 11/17/03 he got player of the week and averaged 20.3 ppg, 4.7 RPG, 4.7 APG, 2.0 BPG, 1.16 SPG. Shot 64 percent on 23-36 shooting.

Nice stats.

He'll be in much better shape than last year. And after a training camp under him, hopefully the offense picks up too, all while obviously maintaining his defensive prowess.

On offense he needs to start using his size more and attacking the basket (he creates such a mismatch), rather than settling for those tough shots, which I think was largely due to his lack of conditioning. I know he's always taken bonehead shots, but I want to see him minimize that this season and attack.

I'm not going to expect this, but I think that Ron Artest can be the Tracy Mcgrady, Paul Pierce, type superstar that he said he wanted to be when he asked to be traded from the Pacers.

The guy is a GYM RAT, he is going to be in the best shape of his career, his jumper is going to be good, his defense will be better then ever....

Ron is a hard worker, and when he wants to improve his game, he will.

I'm optimistic though so....

this is the main reason i think Ron is better without Bonzi. Bonzi was simply a post player he doesn't have a perimeter game (except against Spurs) So Ron had to spend alot of time on the perimeter in order for Bonzi to be a part of the offense. Now with Kevin on the perimeter Ron can shine in what he does best.

To add to that. He had the hip pointer in his 4th game with us against Utah. If you remember in the 1st quarter of that game he took it right at AK47 (one of the leagues premier shot blockers) and Ron Dunked right in his face. Then later that game he got the hip check by Ostertag and he didn't dunk but like twice the rest of the season and he winced in pain when he did that and none of them were attacking they were on outlet passes in which he was wide open.

Indeed ^. I flew up out of my chair when he did that :). That dunk was right at the start of the game, and he almost contributed in every positive stat catergory in the first qtr. Ron can definitely throw down some dunks... he's done some like those from the baseline in the past too. I Remember he did one vs. the Heat back in November.

did you notice his leaping ability disappeared after that game with the hip pointer. Not to mention he wasn't in exactly the best shape last season. He is probably a little more toned up and vert is probably increased since that dunk over AK

Yeah, that, along with not being in game shape. Yet, still played at a high level for us. :)

He was in the high 260s early on with us, then got down to the high 250s near the end of last season. Pre-season, he said he was 280 for most of while he was out in 04-05.

I'd say this season he'll be like 250.

I was at the Delta CEnter when he did that I jumped out of my seat as well and screamed at the top of my lungs "SUCK ON THAT AK-40-nothin!" I was then ridiculed by the JAzz fans who were yelling at me to sit down!

Anyways, I'm thinking that Ron's game will especially pick up on the offensive end because he'll have the opportunity to post up and take his defenders one one one, whereas in Adelman's system, he only got those opportunities every 6th or 7th time down the floor. His dominance in the post and facing the basket will open up outside looks for Brad and Bibby rotating over, as well as MArtin slashing to the basket. He also won't have that tape on his finger, so I expect his shot to be more consistent. And with KT crashing the boards, we should be a solid force to be reckoned with on offense. I like SAR coming off th bench still because he provides a solid first scoring option for a bench that's full of athletic guards still learning the game. SAR's presence off the bench will be a stabilizing factor.

I like SAR off the bench, but I think the minutes between SAR and K9 should be determined on game by game basis, based on how their playing, matchups, energy, etc. Adelman always went with the same rotation. I wouldn't mind seeing K9 start but SAR ending up with more minutes.
