Zach LaVine named LaPlayer of the Week

#31
I was one that wasn’t overly enthused about acquiring Lavine, but did hope for the best. Despite a rough shooting start, Zach has been a breath of fresh air. If he sustains this level of play, I believe the KINGS have a good shot at earning a top 8 seed.

Like many fans here, I’m enjoying the new additions of Lavine, LaRavia, Jonas, and now Fultz. The team has been entertaining to watch again.

Lavine’s shooting has replaced Fox’s up and down shooting and our offense just looks more lethal.
From the eye test, it looks like he does almost nothing when he's with the starters and then goes absolutely ham as soon as he's out there with the bench players. Puts points on the board so quickly that you almost don't even notice it by the end of the game.

If I did my math correctly, the Kings will have two Second Round Picks for the next 4 drafts (assume the Charlotte pick converts to two second rounders in '26 and '27). That's a really nice little bonus that should help keep the roster replete with some young talent. Our FO has proven to be above average at finding under scouted talent as well.
It's kind of tough to keep track of second round picks. Various sites report different draft asset lists, and it's hard to say who is keeping track correctly due to the flurry of action at the trade deadline. Everybody is in alignment on the first round picks, because people "care" more, but things fall out of alignment on the second round picks. According to RealGM (with safe assumption that CHA conveys as 2 seconds), our second round assets are as follows:
25: CHI
26: CHA, SAC (only if 1st to ATL conveys in 25 or 26)
27: CHA, SAC (only if 1st to ATL conveys in 25 or 26)
28: SAC
29: --
30: --
31: --

According to Spotrac, the values are the same, except for 2025:
25: CHI, SAN
26-31: (same as RealGM)

So it doesn't look like we have two seconds in 2028. There is a question about whether we own San Antonio's 2025 second or not, and I don't know the right answer.

That's why Zach is paid more. He is a two time All-Star and his body and his mind is intact.
Unless the Spurs talk him into a more reasonable extension they'll soon be earning the same. Granted LaVines contract will be coming to an end when Fox's extension kicks in so we'll see what happens after that since their contracts are max allowed per years of service. LaVine does have injury concerns though which is one of the reasons I was wary of this move. But Fox can give you two dozen clunkers in games he plays so I'm starting to understand how it evens out.

Thanks for summarizing Capn.

I recently read a Bee article recapping the trade, which states we get "our own" second rounder back from SAN in 2028, which is what Sportrac seems to indicate, so perhaps that's what the question is about. That article also states we got Denver's second rounder in 2028, so that's where two that year comes from. I guess we don't have our own second rounder in '25?

The Kings received a 2025 first-round pick from the Charlotte Hornets, a 2027 first-round pick from the Spurs and a 2031 first-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Kings also received a second-round pick from Chicago in 2025, a second-round pick from the Denver Nuggets in 2028 and their own 2028 second-round pick, which had previously been traded to San Antonio.

I think we gave that up in one of the trades to clear space for Deebo. Maybe Toronto has it?
