I like it but is this legal? We would be trading the MLE for Jonas?
Yes. It's a new wrinkle in the CBA. Once the season starts, if a team has not used its MLE to sign a player (we didn't this year) it becomes possible to use it as a trade exception. We can therefore use it to acquire any player with a salary up to $12.8M. We would have to send something back (typically picks). The Wizards would not *technically* get our MLE, but they would get a trade exception in the amount of the Jonas contract, which is $9.9M.

Assuming such a deal can be worked out, we can actually use either the MLE ($12.8M) or the exception created from yesterday's trade (reported to be $16.8M). In either case, we would use only $9.9M of the exception and the remainder would still be usable.

It's important to note that we can't aggregate these exceptions, so there's no way of picking up a $29.6M player. Also, reports aren't perfectly clear but we're maybe $14M under the apron, where we are hard-capped, so we can't spend that much without shedding other salary anyways.

Definitely want to see Jonas and his toughness here, throw him at skinny Victor and see how he holds up.

Now Ben Simmons, whats it going to take to get him right. Is it just mental or has he been plagued by injuries that I don’t know about. He was so good at one point and he’s from Melbourne so of course I want him to succeed.

Hope Carter and IJ can contribute something off the bench in the 2nd half of season.
I think we can only afford 1 TPE to stay under the luxury tax. And then you could get to like 10 mil salary pretty easily with Lyles+Doug or Len for a trade for someone like Caleb Martin

Glad I didn't say farewell on the Fox thread. What a dick move. He never wanted to stay here. We are better without him anyway, and I hope the spurs get this version of Fox, because they aren't winning anytime soon.
My comment got deleted, then at stern warning was issued that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

As if fox is going to read these comments and get his feelings hurt. Or as if he didn't stab us in the back

my dream scenario is closing this out with Jonas and Caleb, and I think you can do it without trading Lyles. Jonas makes 9.9 and Caleb 8.1. So you need $18M in space. We are currently $14.4 under the apron. So we need $3.6M, which is any two of Len, Doug, or Colby. But you can’t combine the players and TPE, so it is actually 3 trades.

1) Jonas for draft picks (maybe the Charlotte protected), sliding into one of our two big exceptions.
2) Caleb for draft picks (two other seconds), sliding into the other exception.
3) Colby, Len and a second to either Wizards, Sixers, or a different team. They’d have to send something back, so it is one of those top 56 protected second round picks.

You use 5 seconds, get Caleb and Jonas, and stay under the apron.

Domas/Jonas
Keegan/Trey
Demar/Caleb
Lavine/Keon
Monk/Carter

Isaac (promoted), Doug, Sissoko, and Crowder round out the 14, maybe add a 15th guy on a 10-day and sign boogie Ellis to a two-way.

Play your starters about 32 minutes, your reserves about 16, with the exception of Keon eating most of Carter’s minutes to get him closer to 26. If Carter only played 6 minutes tonight, he’s not going to be in the main rotation for the stretch run.

so a 27 and 31 first rounder along with a bunch of seconds, which hopefully don't get tossed around for chump change since teams every single draft find productivity in the second round. Lavine and Fox production wise is about even, except with LaVine you won't get these mood swings and random nights where he feels like playing or not. Kings didn't have much of an option here in terms of destination and other options. As other posters mentioned before I, this is a neutral move and doesn't make the Kings better or worse really. Their ceiling still is a play-in team. This is what Vivek wants though so a true rebuild doesn't begin until Sabonis is on the market. A rebuild will eventually need to be made for this franchise to move forward in a positive direction but until then, I won't be the one to rain on peoples fandom if they want to see the Kings at least compete for a Play-in spot.

Go get season tix to the A's or the RiverCats. We love catching a RiverCats game from time to time. Our son works there, too. Sounds like current RiverCats employees may get first shot at similar A's job openings, so he may work both team's games.
good for him. Not a big baseball fan. Partly because as I get older is too damn hard to see the ball. lol.

That is the way the "Thank You" threads work, as was explained. And believe me, your comment was FAR from the only comment deleted.

In the meantime, I would recommend that you reread the forum rules (link), particularly the last two sentences of #12:

If you have a disagreement with a moderator, discuss it with them in a private conversation. Do not use the main board to air your disagreement.
It seems you have been habitually violating this rule over the last few weeks. If you would like to discuss moderation further, my PMs are open, as are those of the other mods.

I truly don’t think so. Outside of his height, I’m not even sure he fits a major need with LaVine arriving and would just take shots from Keegan. Give me a big, i beg!
Yeah, the biggest issue is Domas' minutes. Whoever the Kings get has to be able to chop some minutes off of his. Even if the rest of the guys play crazy minutes they aren't getting punched in the face every night, haha. Jonas can run the offense in DHO and/or post up, he'd be a great pickup.

Watching Castle it's kind of strange they went after Fox, i don't know how good Castle will be but he reminds me of a SG version of Ja Morrant maybe wont have the offensive talent but is much bigger and a better defender it's a strange pairing unless they plan on moving him for another elite piece (Devin Booker imo would be a insane fit)as good as Fox or better.

If I were the Spurs I would be going all In you never know how long a 7*4 guy without a post game and plays like a wing/guard with high excertion is going to last I don't know if the human body at that size can play like that for a long time.

For the Spurs, I imagine acquiring De'Aaron Fox was just a low-risk swing to take. They gave up so little to get him, didn't part with anything they couldn't feel comfortable letting go of, and after he's signed his extension, his talent and contract becomes a useful trade chip if you decide to move on, assuming Fox doesn't tank his value somehow.

The KINGS surrendered to the demands of terrorists, plain and simple.

Now we’ve got Morgan Reagan spinning things talking about how great it is that ”good people” got to go where they wanted to go. SMH. GTHOH.

I’ve been a Morgan fan for a while, but that is as terrible a take as there is. Let’s just survey all the team’s players and graciously send them wherever they want to be too. Let’s lobby to the NBA and all these other pro sports to terminate the draft process so everyone can go wherever they want and so SAC will no longer be able to field a team since most everyone wants to be in one of like 6 different locations.

The NBA is supposed to be a business. And the KiNGS are supposed to be prioritizing their own best interests, not best interests of the assets they are sending away.

My guess is that Morgan has befriended Mrs. De’Aaron Fox over the years and is speaking from a biased friend POV rather than from an objective journalist POV.

Sad.
Please lighten up, and eat your vegetables!

To be honest the moderation team here is pretty good. Certainly my opinions often stand in contrast to the general consensus but I also try not to derail game threads too much and let thank you threads be thank you threads.

knowing that line has served me well. And since you are one of the few with similar opinions I personally would like to see you stick around ;-)

TBH, D Fox had this plotted out since the summer when he turned down the Kings extension offer.

He and his “evil Klutch” crew never had any intention of re-signing with the Kings. They tried to spin it that he only wanted to “win” when in fact I think he was trying to torpedo the Kings season so that he could gracefully say he tried his best, but the Kings were not winning enough.

Personally, I’m glad that his plan got outed last week and people found out his true intentions to weasel his way to San Antonio.

He was and always will be all about team Fox and not about the team!
I don’t wanna villainize the guy so I’ll say the truth is somewhere in the middle. I DO think some level of sabotage went on whether it was consciously done or not. Less effort on both ends, preserving his body to be sure of no injury … idk. I’m gonna let it go and move on though.

I wear my Sacramento heart on my sleeve and I guess I have completely villainized him and I am struggling to think of a player who has done us more harm.

Spencer Hawes for cheerleading the Seattle move.
Billie Owens who refused to sign/report but got us Rock.
Buddy Hield "suck my ..."

There are players that left under regular departure circumstances, trades, expired contracts, that were behaved while they were here and then bad mouthed us across the league. But I am not sure how to file them, especially since a lot is anonymous whispering and many of these folks survived the dysfunction of the end game Maloof era and Vivek's growing learning pains.

I know there is Coach Malone (rightfully aggrieved) and Karl (part of the problem).

I just don't think a star player like Fox who publicly said so much how much he wants to be here could operate behind the scenes to get out.

I'm hurt and I will be forever, I think.

I know we have talked about it but I was thinking about the Monk re-signing this summer and Fox’s comments prior to it. I kept thinking it was so odd how Fox didn’t seem to be advocating for Monk to stay and he even said they hadn’t discussed it. At the time I assumed he was just keeping things private but now I wonder if he was telling the truth.

It was weird not seeing Fox out there last night but this too shall pass

I’ve spent a ton of money on Fox jerseys for me and my fam. I saw the talent up close before we drafted him. Suffice to say we’ve been huge fans. What I realized years ago, specifically when he couldn’t operate with Hali, was he’s not someone an organization can build around if you want to compete for championships. He tantalized you with his talent, but even before we drafted him I was like who is this guy: is he the one who scores 40 against Lonzo and UCLA and you’re thinking he’s the best player in the world, or is he the dude 2 nights later who didn’t show up against North Carolina? His effort has always been inconsistent and represents who he is as a leader. It sucks but I think he even has reconciled that in his own mind by pushing to go to the Spurs.

I have a ton of buddies that live and breathe Kentucky basketball. Even before we drafted Fox, they adored him for his talent. But they said Monk was their heart and soul
