De'Aaron Fox Traded to Spurs for Zach Lavine, three first round picks

Seems to me like we either hurry the hell up and fill our positions of need with good players to make us a competitor or blow it up. Gonna be tough to get a good pg and pf that are starting caliber and that fit. If I had to bet my money I'd bet we're 1.5 seasons away from a complete overhaul.
Monte has set himself up well to go with the flow regardless of whatever it is. Now Monte can actually USE his MLE as well. Remember he can use that in trade now also. If the team looks good, he can add for need without touching his pick cache. Wow, it's hard to believe Monte was able to re-tool this effectively while spreading his chips out far enough to not be screwed regardless of the outcome, haha.

No idea if Simmons is even playable but I wouldn’t be surprised if we take a look at him given prior interest. If he’s a cheap pickup that could add length rebounding and defense to the bench. And maybe he’d prefer a small market but who knows
Players have found new life with the Kings before. If Monte did end up being able to take a flyer on Simmons this would all come full circle.

I was still pretty impressed with his defense when the Nets were in Sacramento. He doesn’t bite on a lot of pump fakes. That stood out to me when the Kings are constantly looking like they’re walking on the moon defensively.

Plus, he’s got size and can still score a few baskets, rebound at a high rate and make a few plays. I think he would be a no brainer on the buyout market to come off the bench.

And yeah, you never know. He might remember he’s talented
A small market team may be beneficial for him. He can be the back up pg/wing. Can stagger a line up of Carter, Ellis, Murray, Simmons, Lyles. That’s a a really good defensive unit when we need a stop

He'd probably have no shortage of suitors but without searching who is still holding onto their MLE and with the 2nd apron buyout rules, the Kings might also be able to offer the most $$$ on a short deal considering Monte held onto it.

I would be all over Simmons easily! He can play point for the bench a run it well he also gives us massive size and defense.

Trade for Nance and sign ben have a bench of Ellis, Ben, Lyle’s, and Nance

Just searching Spotrac real quick. The Kings might indeed have a huge advantage with the MLE. Most teams that still have it have bloated caps and/or are hard capped at the 1st or 2nd apron. The Kings have space to use the whole thing I think.

I'm pretty sure that with a buyout, any additional salary the player gets is treated as an offset - meaning if the team that signs Simmons signs him for $3M, then that $3M goes to Brooklyn, and not to Simmons. There's no incentive for any team to pay over the min in that case. Basically, he picks his destination.

Obviously at league minimum I'd give it a shot if he wanted to pick us.

Really? Not sure why the players would agree to that. I looked it up and couldn't find anything on that.

Sacramento might be the best market in the NBA for Simmons versus Philly and New York. Sac fans tend to overlook players faults and love those who love them back. Philly fans hate Santa Clause. Ben might thrive in a Sacramento market. He is clearly driven by fear of failure and Sac might be the best market in sports for that kind of player.

I had the details wrong - I'm guessing maybe it's baseball where the "set off" is 100%? Anyway, there is a limited "set off" in the NBA - basically, on top of his bought-out contract Simmons would get the entirety of a min contract, and half of the salary beyond that. (The new team would pay the full amount, but the Nets would get to reduce their payment by that amount.)

He shoots an impressive 8% from the three.
On a very small sample size, he shot .083 on 1-12 his rookie year. This year he is shooting .429 on a very small 3-7 sample size. He shoots .429!!!!

His more extensive G-League experience has him just a touch under .300 over three years. Not a disaster, needs work, for a guy who is 20, that could come around.

Ah, I didn't realize he was only 20. Still could be some hope!

TBH, D Fox had this plotted out since the summer when he turned down the Kings extension offer.

He and his “evil Klutch” crew never had any intention of re-signing with the Kings. They tried to spin it that he only wanted to “win” when in fact I think he was trying to torpedo the Kings season so that he could gracefully say he tried his best, but the Kings were not winning enough.

Personally, I’m glad that his plan got outed last week and people found out his true intentions to weasel his way to San Antonio.

He was and always will be all about team Fox and not about the team!
