So is like..... Monte going to do anything?
The trade deadline is on Thursday. I'm not sure why fans think that front office due diligence should be foregone because of antsiness and distress on the part of the fanbase. If nothing is done by Thursday, let the complaints roll in (even though I'm of the opinion that it might be more prudent to wait until the offseason if a strong deal doesn't materialize before the deadline).

I would.much rather this situation be done by the deadline. I am not willing to accept our equivalent of this Luka swap to get it done.

“But it only took the Mavs and Lakers 48 hours tog et a trade done!”

if we wait until the offseason to trade him, what is your preferred course of action with Fox for the rest of the year?

So we should take a terrible deal? Jeez, even if we lose every game the rest of the season and get a better deal in the summer I will take that over the likelihood of what the Mavs future looks like.
I did not say we should take a terrible deal. You are twisting my words. Something less than ideal might save this season and next. A better deal will not be had in summer because then Fox will be on an "expiring" contract.

Yeesh, one totally balanced and not at all idiotic or sketchy Luka trade and this thread turns into a defeatist party!

I don't think a trade that has unanimously been called the worst ever by everyone but Lakers fans and Silver, a deal so bad that many fans are now questioning the legitimacy of the league itself, will do much to change the trade value of Fox.

Half the league called Monte about Fox, last I checked only one team just fleeced the Mavs.

I still think Fox gets shipped out by Thursday.

I guess I'm pretty jaded at this point when it comes to the Lakers. I never expected they would be without a superstar player for very long after LBJ left. Within a year or two a superstar player would go to LA via FA. It's a given: death, taxes and a superstar in LA. So the fact that they had to give up AD in order to get him is not the worst possible thing. Is it an equitable trade? Heck no. But it's not like they are insured championships for years to come any more than Dallas was either. One of these days LBJ will finally expire and Doncic will be in a similar position to what LBJ has experienced over the past few years. I'm far more concerned about OKC and Houston than the Lakers.

Meaning what? You're fine if we lose the trade? Even though we're trading the best player?
There is no "winning" a trade like this. This should be about survival and not following the path down like previous teams (RAPTORS). If you can get something to move forward with you trust the other moves you've made and that they will give you a new path to victory. This team isn't Fox and then nothing. It could have been had Monte gone any further down that path, but this might be the saving grace.

The Mavs got the guy they wanted so fleecing is in the eye of the beholder I guess.
