Luka a Laker

Memphis (accidentally) got the better Gasol brother out of the deal so I think it somehow worked out for them.
There was no way for Memphis to have made that bet. How would Memphis know that Marc Gasol would be available with the pick they got from the trade? It doesn't fit together.

This is absolutely collusion. Its ridiculous. Lol
It's obvious the goal is to A) make the Lakers relevant in the future post-Lebron era (especially considering the dropping NBA ratings numbers), and B) potentially staging the Mavericks to a move to Vegas. I'm really so sick of this idea that the league cannot be popular unless the Lakers are good. Literally feature your best talent and make the game accessible and you'll have a popular product.

This feels like permission to stop following the NBA entirely
Kind of how I feel.

This has Silver's "what's good for the Lakers is good for the league" fingerprints all over it.

Oh viewership is down because of too many stoppages for ad revenue, crappy officiating, every team spamming 3s, scummy pushing of gambling sites, unlikable diva stars, whack tv deals making it hard to watch your local team? I know! Let's gift the Lakers another superstar!

Clown league

Hey I hear you, however, explain the Pau Gasol trade from Memphis to LA using the perspective of this argument.
this was the grizzlies explanation
"Well, we've been trolling these waters for a while, we've dealt with a number of teams and I didn't see that it would get any better than this," Wallace told ESPN.com Friday night in a telephone interview. "We got what was pretty much the biggest expiring contract out there [Kwame Brown], a player we like in Javaris Crittendon, two No. 1 picks and Pau Gasol's brother [Marc Gasol], who we think would be a high No. 1 pick if he came out this year instead of last year. So we're looking at it like we're getting four No. 1 picks”

This is a problem. Why are the Lakers being given exclusive access to underpay for the best players in the league? The NBA needs to change the way things are done with trades. If it's a legitimate business with real investors, why does Dallas exclude every team other than the Lakers with trade opportunity like this? How could Dallas have ensured it's investors that they got the best return for Doncic when they admittedly only went to one team with their trade proposal and got so little in return? A 30+ year old injury prone all-star and a 1st for Luka Doncic? Mikail Bridges just brought back 5 1st rounders!

It's pretty easy for this stuff to stop happening: owners need to stop hiring former agents and corporate executives. Why is an agent running the Lakers and a Nike guy running the Mavericks? Because owners want them to be. That's the big issue there. I think there's definitely betting game manipulation and larger things at play and these incidents keep reinforcing that conspiracy.

They didn’t draft him, the Lakers already had in a prior draft. They just got his rights.

Bob Myers left his agent job and won four rings for the Warriors. Leon Rose left CAA and finally got the Knicks to be good. Wasserman’s som has thus far done absolutely nothing good for the Suns but Isiah Thomas is running that team anyways.

My point is not that they cannot be good GMs, my point is that their nature, connections, and motives are not always to help the team they work for. I do believe this move only happened because the two GMs were buddies and the league wants the Lakers to be relevant.

I see people all over the internet criticizing Mark Cuban for "such a stupid move." The Mavericks are now owned by Miriam Adelson among a few others, 73 percent ownership. This trade had nothing to do with Cuban. Miriam Adelson, although extremely wealthy, is known to be very stingy in certain areas and not a "basketball person," just a billionaire. The idea of paying Luka the Super Max in July I'm sure had A LOT to do with this.

Listening to the presser I honestly don’t think the league is involved in this decision. I think Nico might actually be that dumb.

This trade will make it even more difficult for us to get fair value for Fox. Everyone, and I mean literally everyone, in the NBA is looking at this trade and if that’s what Luka freakin Doncic is getting for return value, then we are up **** creek with Fox. Doesn’t matter if we know it to be unfair and stupid, it’s a done deal.

Maybe. Mikal Bridges netted 5 FRPs just a few months ago. I think if anything this Luka/AD trade will be viewed for what it is - a weird anomaly.

What else are they going to say?

Let's assume they didn't want to offer Luka the super max, and let's say the current GM is really not that fond of him. They still did a deal with his buddy to help the Lakers. That alone, and not shopping him on the open market, proves their connections made this happen to benefit LA.
