Luka a Laker

This is basically the Mitch Richmond for Chris Webber trade redux. These guys are about the same ages and Luka is probably about the same caliber of player as CWebb in his prime. I don't know what Luka did to pee off the Dallas front office but he had them in the Finals last year and led all players in points, rebounds, and assists during the 2024 playoffs so it must have been something big. There's just no way that "he doesn't play enough defense" is the real reason.

But the Rock/Webber trade the small guy was the old guy and the big guy had no injury history I remember. Just a bit of a headcase.

So Luka will get to play with Divac often on the stands (since he might be Kings ambassador or something but has still connection with the Lakers as well, watching their matches quite often), for extra motivation.

If the NBA doesn’t veto this I’m out. No chance of tuning out overnight but this is so obscenely stupid.

They won’t veto it. Anthony Davis is a current all star averaging 26-12. This isn’t like when the Lakers were acquiring superstars for the corpse of Andrew Bynum.

They could’ve got a lot more draft picks elsewhere but unlikely a better active player in return.

They also aren’t trying to sell the Mavericks

Sure, if you want to get nitpicky, but in both cases you have a veteran All-Star in his 30s traded for a 25 year old budding superstar which just hardly ever happens in the NBA, for obvious reasons. Webber was on the outs in Washington because of attitude and legal trouble. He was getting traded that off-season no matter what. We don't know of anything like that for Luka -- this just came out of the blue -- which is why we all assume there's more to the story than what has (so far) been reported.
