Amick: De’Aaron Fox requests trade

Fox in his one playoff series was amazing. Hali might be able to help a team get farther (IN THE EAST) but Domas was taken out of the series by a dirty play and the refs seemed to push the series into Warriors favor and then Brown just blew the second half of Game 7 with a horrific decision on how to play Steph. But that series was your argument for Fox as an All NBA player in a nutshell.

Too bad he doesn't value January the same way.

I swear we are over valuing fox.

If Ja came on the market today, even with all his history, do you think the hang up to getting a deal done would be freskin Cassle?

Not sure why Ja Morant would be any different. If he announced he wanted out of Memphis and only had a year left, then yes, teams would think they had the upper hand to claim certain prospects are untouchable

Spurs fans think the Kings are over a barrel and that they don’t have to give up anything they want for Fox.

It’s more likely Spurs fans(and Kings fans) are vastly overvaluing Castle than it’s Fox that is being overvalued

I think it probably has more to do with what the Kings want in addition to Castle. I have doubts that San Antonio wouldn’t trade a heavily Castle/salary filler centric package for Fox but the Kings are likely discussing him as additional since he isn’t somebody that is contributing to winning games this season or even next…and the Kings will be making this trade with winning in mind since it provides an opportunity to balance the roster.

I personally would prefer Vassell and Keldon Johnson and picks over some of these Castle packages.

People are falling in love with the physical template of Castle rather than the player he is or has shown any hint of being.

If any teams see promise out of a young player on their own team they'll likely take that all day over picks like the Spurs have. Let alone one that was a sure lottery pick. Any team that isn't stockpiling future picks to make this kind of move is stupid. A team can't possibly use all those picks and if you do you'll hit a tipping point somewhere along the line. They might want to hang onto the 25' Hawks pick, if that were a snag Monte should leave it top 1-3 protected. I can see why the Kings shouldn't even be in the hunt for a top 3 pick with the situation Fox is in.

I don't want Vassell's contract. Of course it is physical template and the 1 in 20 chance he turns into a star. Along with 3 or 4 other FRPs, two of which are likely lotto picks. Then maybe we have a 1/5 chance of returning one player worth Fox in 3-5 years time.

Fox did seem to embrace Sacramento as a young player but between Reece and Klutch his commitments may be pulled elsewhere.
Yeah, that's what I had thought before too. Reece has been with him since day one so I don't think she is necessarily the issue.

It wasn't until he signed with Klutch, his intentions towards the Kings seemed to do a 180. Another reason to hate LeBron and his crew.

Didn’t Fox have a kid with another woman once upon a time?

I initially felt the same way. And I was very against Monk starting.

But thinking about it more, I don't know how many players have had a career arc like Monk.

He was viewed as a potential bust in Charlotte, a decent role player in LA and then an elite 6th man in Sacramento. Malik has evolved a lot the last few seasons. He definitely looked like a starting PG when Fox was out.

He is definitely streaky offensively and he doesn't have defense to fall back on when his shot isn't falling, but he can absolutely play make for others.

As for his ups & downs, it's an issue, but it's a game to game issue vs Fox who tends to go into prolonged funks for stretches of games.
It depends what kind of team you're talking about when you think of him starting. Is he a starter who could get you to the playoffs? Yes. Is he starter that could get you to a championship? No way. But he could be an excellent 6th man on a championship team.

I don't understand the Spurs (fans at least) stance if they are not willing to give up Castle or whoever to get D Fox now. If they really want him, they need to give the Kings a package they can't refuse.

It's NOT the Kings concern if Fox will re-sign with whoever we decide to trade him too. It's Monte's job to get the best package possible in return for Fox. And if the Spurs think for a minute that if we trade Fox to Houston or Miami that D Fox won't eventually re-sign with them and leave $80 million on the table to sign with the Spurs in the summer of 2026, I think they will be in for a very rude awakening.

I wouldnt trade for Fox if I was Spurs honestly. All it does is speed up the pressure to win now when they have absolutely no reason to. Wimbly is in his second year and adding fox barley makes them a play in team.

Fox got Barnes traded away once already to "upgrade" foxes pick and roll passing is not good either so I domt see how that makes him much better as far as fit with Wimbly.

Fox is a Westbrook type player without the hustle, heart, and strength.

This is not to say he doesn't deserve the package we are proposing, it's just why do it?

No one can convince me that this fox thing hasn’t taken all the wind out of this teams sails cause they don’t look anything like the team that was playing well together prior to Fox dropping this turd sandwich.

Thanks alot Fox. Great timing.
I don't understand why he couldn't just commit to the contract extension with a handshake we'd move him if whatever trade we gave up the pick for didn't work out. At least the pick we sacrificed in doing so probably wouldn't have been a lotto pick if we moved him that same year.

Do you (or anyone) remember that like 2-3 week stretch after we traded Iman Shumpert? How dejected the team was mentally/emotionally? This has very similar vibes to that.

Fox doesn't need access to the building anymore he is no longer a Sacramento King that has been clear.
I don't think he'll be in G1C on Tuesday, no way but I guess some people will probably still cheer him and hang this on anyone else. We've done everything to build around him. Not always got every decision right, but the reality is maybe the right decision would have been building around someone else instead.

Yeah, I still harp on that from time to time. All the talk of “positive veteran leadership” for a young team. Shumpert gave the team swagger, identity, and leadership.

The other guys thought he was the man. It didn’t matter if he shot the ball poorly most of the time. Dude brought it every night and was setting a winning example.

The team was obviously down for pretty much the rest of the season. I think Willie and Buddy openly complained about it. I don’t think it was because Justin Jackson was gone. They traded the spiritual leader of the team for a player they didn’t even use and didn’t make sense when you already have Bogdan anyway.

I think the front office didn’t like Shumpert and didn’t like his influence on the team. They also probably thought Joerger would keep playing him a lot even after the trades and didn’t want to let him.

That’s my theory.

Back then, You could gather the pulse of the Vlade GM era Kings from remembering Grant Napear’s show.

Grant I remember was quite disdainful of Shumpert whenever a caller suggested his cast off as a turning point of the season. No acknowledgment of the obvious vibe that Shump brought. Which makes me believe Shump was traded for the sake of getting rid of him so Dave wouldn’t keep playing him.

Dave would end up playing an over the hill Corey Brewer a lot later that season anyway, so backfire.
