Amick: De’Aaron Fox requests trade

Packaging with him Huerter automatically makes the value go down. Kings ain’t doing that and I’m getting closer to thinking Fox ain’t going anywhere before the deadline.
I’d assume if Huerter goes in the same deal it’s in a three team situation. If the kings wanted Collins for example they could still send Kev there and re-route a Spur pick to Utah

A 17 million dollar man that is still likely costing us a first and we might have to include trading Fox to unload. Meanwhile teams like Dallas have got actual contributors with size for less.
If we trade Huerter, we are giving up a first for the player we want, not to unload Kevs contract. He is just the salary matching which is required and still an asset.

What about something like GoFund and collect enough $$$ to buy the house where Fox lived before he was traded from here to wherever for whatever? Demolish the house and put a big statue of poop in the middle. Table in front would read "Fox was here".
MJ build United Center and left it to Chicago. The best Fox will do will be a certain type of smell.
I am completely OK with players traded. I am completely OK with Fox trade. Plenty of signs were there. Starting decline of extension.
I am completely against all the garbage that's going now. Fox said he dreams to play alongside Wemby. How does that make Domas feel? Domas works hard to clean up the paint for the Kings drivers to score. Does all the other "little" things. Other Kings players move the ball and etc. I rewatched highlights of Kings W over BKN. Fox had like ~3 difficult makes. All the other scoring by him and by the most of the team was done by nice ball movement, smart play overall.
I re-read a bit of thread about Domas trade. It came out of nowhere and most the this board was on suicide watch. Though I was happy to see that some calm heads (some still present here) analyzed it realistically. That's how trades should be made. Personally, at that time, when one of Myles or Domas was an odd man, I expected Warriors to go hard for him.
If Fox is not traded before the deadline - make him to get healthy. Out for the season. I want to see guys in the Kings jersey on the floor that actually want to play bball. Here or anywhere, but without some "dream destinations", "best teammate combinations" and all that other $$$ bleep.

I think our biggest ace in the hole is Fox’s ego.

The Spurs low balling us might bite them in the ass when we show Fox how little the value him versus other top players.
That's one of the funniest things about this whole saga. Fox cries to the media demanding a trade to one specific team and they offer peanuts in return. That's gotta sting lol.

The Spurs should want to make this happen now because they would get Fox for two potential playoff runs before having to pay him the big money. If the Spurs don’t get him they have no chance at the playoffs this year and probably not next year either. Wemby is an all start NOW, why not maximize his window and give him playoff/play in experience as soon as possible? Fox/Wemby combined cost less than the max Fox will make in ‘26. It’s a no brainer for them.

The Chicago pick went to San Antonio as a protected pick already, so it's not like the proposal is adding a protection onto it. But obviously it cannot be a great pick, as it's top-10, top-8, top-8 protected. It probably doesn't convey this year unless CHI sneaks into the playoffs via the play-in. I'd rather have the MIN 31 pick, which is unprotected and with a little luck could be huge, but that's a gamble.
That's the point I was/am trying to make. That I'd much rather have an already unprotected pick come our way, rather than one that is already protected.
In other words, I'd much rather we have a guaranteed pick than a pick that can possibly be conveyed.

This is the point I keep coming back to. You don't think the entire league is trying to get in Wemby's ear? Everyone is going to angle this kid because he very much looks like the real deal as the next heir to the face of the league after LeBron. He's good enough NOW to lead a team in a playoff series; you're really going to tell him he has to wait a year and a half to get a 1B? Because you don't want to pay the tag?

And guess what, Fox in a year and a half in FA isn't guaranteed. What if the relationship does repair with the Kings? What if he gets traded to MIA, loves playing with Bam, and signs there? What if HOU gets bounced in the first round this year and they come with a big offer this off-season? And he resigns there? What if Steph Castle doesn't develop? Uh-oh, now you wasted a year and a half of your Wemby window.

windy doing the selling for both front offices lol
Of course, Monte loves him. Why wouldn't he salivate at the idea of adding a backup point guard that can't shoot to the roster. How else are we going to fill the 6-10 minutes that Carter doesn't get. Maybe he can even play the small ball 5 if we include Trey in a deal.

All great points.

The more I think about it, the more I think the Kings have quite a bit of leverage here.

They do, because they're the team trading the star and he's not a UFA this off-season, but next. It happens every single time "LOL THERE'S NO WAY ANYONE PAYS ANYTHING FOR FAT JAMES HARDEN"... and then BKN gives up 4 picks, 3 pick swaps, JA and Caris LeVert to make it happen. Mikal Bridges had one team he wanted to be traded to and NYK paid 5 FRP. Everyone knew AD had one team he wanted to be traded too and LAL gave up their entire quality youth package to get him. I forget what happened in the KD drama, but again, PHX sent their 2 quality wings and a pile of FRP picks to make it happen. Even though they were probably the only team he wanted to go to.

While I ideally don't want to have to deal with this drama another 6+months or a year, you have 2 more windows before you HAVE to do something. This trade deadline and this off-season.

Not an awful comparison. But Castle is a better defender and more vertically explosive while not having Tyreke's level of ballhandling or shiftiness.

Evans could function as the primary ballhandler from the moment he entered the league. Castle is years away from that, if he ever gets there. But both are big and long for guards.

Every team with cap room becomes a bidder in the offseason, we'd get 5+ picks or rookie contract players, swaps and a TPE if we moved him selectively.

Spurs can get him now or move on to plan D since apparently they wanted two other guys before Fox. Makes you wonder what kind of value they place on him. And Wemby should wonder why they won't nab him right now and make a playoff push?

I’m glad they are pushing hard for the guy they want.

If they don’t make the trade this deadline, I want him to have the surgery on his finger and sit out the rest of the year. Gives the kings a chance to see what Keon and Carter look like in extended minutes and preserve our asset.

Yeah, the line in Amick’s latest that the Spurs might want to let the rest of the season play out with Chris Paul is laughable.
Maybe it is; maybe it isn't. It's tough to know what the Spurs front office is thinking. The Mavericks tried to "speed up" their timeline to accommodate how ready Luka Doncic was from day one, and they didn't really do themselves many favors from an asset management standpoint. They had to hop on Kyrie Irving's roller coaster in order to position themselves for immediate success. I'll concede that the Irving gamble has worked out quite well for them, but it's easy to forget how much of a risk that was at the time. If Irving remained an unreliable presence on the court, the Mavericks might have just blown their long-term future with Doncic.

The Spurs, on the other hand, are a much more conservative organization than the Mark Cuban-led Mavericks. I would imagine they don't mind falling in the standings enough to miss the play-in so they can take another shot in the first round at grabbing a real contributor to add to their young team. And if they don't like what they see in the draft, they can always examine the trade market in the off-season, when they'll have greater flexibility. Fox himself might still be there on the block at that time. There really is no rush for them, as much as the Twitterati like to pretend that they must win now, in Wemby's second year, or risk losing him forever. Eh. He's cost-controlled. He'll extend with them. They have time. They can't screw around, of course, but I'll be curious to see if they simply elect to be patient and methodical, as they usually are.

I consider Vecenie the best talent evaluator in the media game and he loves Castle, thinks he will shoot eventually too. Said he would take him number 1 in a re-draft

Again if you're Wemby, you see that a star PG wants to come to your team and sign an extension... but you're team isn't pulling the trigger? Last thing I would want if I had Wemby is him start to wonder if my team really cares about winning.

I watched the Ringer podbros on the situation last night, they noted that Houston should sweep in and not let San Antonio make this move or they could regret it and they shouldn't get caught up in their playoff positioning right now because they don't have a scorer like Fox and they have to start paying guys beginning this offseason so their window to make this type of move will close. I imagine Houston is still tepid on doing anything like that but this is sort of like if we sat on our hands in 2002 and let the Lakers nab an all star.

Beyond that they suggest Orlando as the best spot and of course Miami.
