Stein: No contact between Kings and Nets on Cam Johnson for “weeks”

They held DFS way too long and got significantly less than they would have had they traded him a year ago. Cam Johnson being on that team past the deadline would be a pretty huge failure imo.
Is it though? He's kind of like Kuzma where is there another team currently that should value him as much as the one he's currently on? It's always kind of been hemmed and hawed that the Nets are trying to build a quick winner and hence why they're clearing space. Why trade a good role player on an OK contract if they are? This feels like Ainge trying to trade Lauri. If a deal knocks their socks of they'd do it, but good luck on that one.

I heard/ read somewhere (here?) that the front office wanted time/ a larger sample size to evaluate how the team performed under Doug before making a move. The 'no contact for weeks' would align with that. They should really wait to see what happens with Fox as well.

Smh ya let’s wait to see if we flame out before improving the team when he’ll just demand a trade before that happens

But I mean they know huerter is a no go. So it doesn’t hurt to explore somebody looking to shed salary. At this point anybody over 6’10 that has at least played in nba game is an upgrade. We have nothing behind sabonis. We got to have somebody at least formidable that won’t give up ground when he sits. The guard rotation is solid. Huge drop off after Keegan and sabonis.

Well this news basically indicates that Monte has his offer and the Nets want more so there was really no need to talk. Yeah, unprotected picks at a point where it's still very possible the Kings could be in a rebuild/retool or not a real contender is too risky considering it's almost a certainty that a player like Cam moves back to being more of a role player with the Kings. If anything, what the Kings have done under DC doesn't do anything but make it clear that making a major roster shift now isn't just unnecessary, it might not be wise. If the Nets have any desire to hold onto Cam then they aren't really dead set on moving him. And there could be your impasse.

If any star player thinks Cam Johnson is his only path to stay? He's clueless. You'll end up trading high for a middling asset, lose value there and probably be stuck when said star player bails anyway. Once the offseason starts Monte should know exactly where he stands. Draft night is the place where if Fox is being moved the leagues focus comes to Monte, not the other way around.

so it goes when living in an era of click bait. I miss the Petrie days, no leaks, no nothing. Something happens, I find out on Kingsfans.

I promise you trading for Cam helps fox come back over making no move

Stein basically reported as much awhile back. Teams are trying to steal a legit talent on a rookie scale deal (basically worth gold in the coming years) because the Kings are loaded with guards. If Monte lets this kid go and he gets to his potential, heck, even if he ends up in the middle Monte will never live it down. If he busts, let year 3 determine that, not half of a half a season. Monte wasn't wrong, Carter types are the difference come playoff time these days. They are the new "3 and D wing" in terms of desirable player types. Considering the Kings also literally have NO other high end young talent on the back of their roster, it would be plain stupid all the way around. Just hopefully Christie starts pulling starters minutes down and pulls back on Len/Huerter and starts shifting some of those minutes Carters way as the season goes on because 4 mpg is borderline ridiculous.

I’m not even worried about Lonte trading Keon or Carter unless we’re getting something really good in return. Would make zero sense to give up valuable players making pennies

That's why I think if Monte is going to make an all in type move of youth/picks, don't shoot for half way. Go for a legit all star. Keegan/Carter/Keon/picks, whatever for a superstar. Just unload it all. The problem is that player isn't out there right now. Maybe keep an eye on Giannis.

Hopefully so. There's probably teams not even that enthused with Carter. I mean, every team would have to like the potential, but the reality is the Kings have almost NO legit young talent of his value. He's actually the only one. So when teams are like, "Youth/pick" who else can the Kings realistically hand them? haha.

The good thing is there’s players we can get that help us without giving that up. Kuzma, Jonas, Timelord, Nance, Martin, and Grant
