This is exactly why Beal was always a "stay away" Good player, but not near good enough to justify his insane contract/injury history. And if things ever went wrong (like they are now), you're stuck.
that’s especially true for a team like the Suns that did not need more firepower. Had they used that 50 mil on defense and shooting instead that team might have a championship right now.
I look at it differently, mainly because I see a supermax contract as "services rendered," not a down payment on future performance. In my Personal Record Book™ the supermax is for what you've already done, not for what we think you can do moving forward.

It's a fair point and I get it, but the whole salary cap structure puts a damper on that especially with the newest CBA. Not to mention the rookie contract element that has some guys hang on long enough to earn it, then demand a trade a season or so after signing it.
The only way I see the Bulls do it if they decide to try and win now and keep Lavine. They could trade Vuc and Ball for Beal and then move Duarte and a minimum for Valanciunas.
White
Beal
Lavine
Williams
Valanciunas
Giddey
Smith
Buzelis
Dosunmu
that would be a Bulls thing to do and given Beal and Lavine’s injury history it would almost certainly not end well. But that is a decent team in the East.
okay but this doesn’t solve the Pacers’ biggest issue though (lack of an iso-scorer for big games) and are they really that much better off trading their one good wing and their backup 5/4 for Cam?

Man, we're losing the plot on Cam Johnson here. I'm a huge fan and think he's a very good player, but he's being talked about like he's a star wing. When we're NOW just seeing the big scoring breakout when he's on a bad team.
If I'm doing all this for Cam, I'd rather just pay all the way up and go get Lauri this summer.

I think the problem is that the Mikal Bridges trade so thoroughly ruined seller expectations on the value of role players on the trade market that now we’re seeing the price being set ridiculously high for guys who probably aren’t worth that much.

Lauri will legitimately cost All The Picks though.
Right now, seeing the fire that's recently been lit under our butts, I'm not really sure that we need to make a trade at all...hopefully the fire can stick around...

Bradley Beal is still a crazy efficient star when he's healthy. I can see a team getting desperate. The thing about Butler is I wonder how much a team actually wants Butler on a 52 million dollar contract next season. Butler would be crazy to opt out.
I think they have to get under the second apron with the deal. Would appear to take Middleton+Lopez+any min contract. The Heat appear to have apron space to absorb the difference.

i thought you couldn’t aggregate contracts as a second apron? Are you saying you can as long as the deal brings you below the second apron upon completion?

If there is an option to move Kev for a "real" PF/4 you probably can't pass it up but you don't need to let go of draft capital nor should we let go of Lyles right now. Otherwise maybe MLE helps the problem in the offseason. (or draft if we fall short of our goals, coaching change has given me hope once again)
