Welcome Coach Doug Christie!

I don't think Fox can take on that personality i haven't seen anything to convince me he takes the game personal. We need to find some players who eat sleep hoop and have a fire in their belly. Miss me with those guys who high five and play slap ass with the opponent who just mopped the floor with you ugh.
He’s married to a hooper who’s courtside every game, brought his shooting coach on their honeymoon, named his kid after the team, and has improved year over year in every part of his game that needed improvement.

I get that fans want to see players emote some but maybe it’s just not his personality. And maybe he also has a longer perspective on the game that keeps him from getting too high or too low each day.

its a honeymoon phase as far as I can see
And how far is that my friend? Was it as far as I could see when I was the first person to call for/predict Brown's firing 9 months in advance? When literally no other people on this board would come out and talk about the problem except for the three brave souls in the screenshot: @Blazerthal, @upinsmoke, and @Bibby10AZ ??

I literally called his replacement (not that hard).

The rightful concern in April was we'd be the laughingstock of the league for letting Brown go at the time. We were for the first 3-4 days after we finally did it even though by just about any other franchise metric we were justified. And I don't think the org is off the hook yet, though results are promising.

Divac, Bobby, and Bibby have all been brought into the organization. Even Kenny Thomas has been on TV some. Promoting Doug is consistent with that.
I'm not for or against Christie here, the foundation is still broken and no coach in the league will be able to fix it until that is destroyed

And then if they emote too much they become a “cancer” who whines too much.

Sorry - possibly a stupid/silly question but I'm also not sure how to look this up, so here goes: Contract-wise, what does DC taking over as interim head coach mean for him?
  • Do assistant coaches have a clause in their contract to trigger higher pay if this happens?
  • Is he just paid the same as he was before for the interim HC work?
  • I assume that he didn't have to re-negotiate his existing contract on such short notice given the change in responsibility...

Yes they get an increase in pay.

Yes they get an increase in pay.
I assume so, but I was wondering functionally how that works. Is there a standard provision in assistant coaching contracts that if they get bumped to another position with more responsibility they get $xxx more per month or ??? Is it a team-by-team thing? Is it set at the NBA level? Is it negotiated at the time of transition?

Just curious.

Negotiated, usually on the lower end of the pay scale unless they got lots of experience.

Just heard that one of Christie's points of focus for this team, is to be a lot less involved with the officials and don't be constantly chirping at them. Mistakes will happen by you and them, just move onto the next play and they will start to respect you for it.

Something I have been advocating for a long time
TBH, the main culprit on official issues has been Fox. Domas gets on them from time to time, but Fox goes at them repeatedly. Monk taking over PG was a relief because he's much better at handling the officials. With Fox back we have to see what happens and if the team reverts back to bad habits by taking his lead.

Domas is definitely still a work in progress on this one...

It's such a chicken and egg thing.

Fox has a horrible whistle and is constantly getting hammered on his drives with no calls, it would take the patience of a martyred saint to put up with it, of course he's going to get mad at the refs.

But then the refs get all butthurt and swallow their whistles when Fox gets smacked around because he gets in their faces.

Meanwhile Draymond could murder a refs firstborn child at center court and not get thrown out of a game so who knows. Maybe when Stern passed the torch to Silver it was contingent on the NBA continuing to punish the Kings for daring to compete with his precious Lakers in the early 00s and Fox is just a victim of this.

Wow that was kinda a rant. What thread am I in again? :p

Domas seems to have gotten a rough whistle and maybe you point back to that game when he first got traded here and made contact with an official (softest contact with an official ever, but whatevs). But you also have to wonder if it was a Brown thing. I am sure they did not appreciate that stunt with the laptop and it really didn't get better after that.

Fair point.

It really doesn't look like we could have fired Brown any sooner, given those second order concerns. The poor start provided the justification for something that had been needing to happen. Just swallowing hard on that extension.

I have been preaching for 2 1/2 years that the Kings have been stifled by coaching practices...and challenged for that view. The belief was that the team had excellent talent that was underperforming through no fault of their own.

Now, under Christie, the players are unleashed and enthused that their skills are appreciated, nurtured, and supported come what may. Sabonis said it directly when he expressed that Christie has released Domas's creativity. The type of play we are seeing reflects that those sentiments are felt team-wide.

As predicted at the time of the coaching change, Keegan is slowly re-blooming on offense and Huerter has shown some improvement; both of whom are sensitive people. It takes time to heal but the recovery seems to be remarkably rapid and beyond expectations. Carry on Coach Christie.

I believe you compared it to soliders PTSD and said Brown was abusing the players. That's what got you push back from me at least.

Regardless, it's in the past. Christie era is off to a booming start, team is super fun again and Kings are a must watch every game now. Good time to be a Kings fan.
