Schroder Trade

Anyone has a rational explanation for why Nets would trade Schroder for pennies on the dollar?

A player out for the season and 3 second round picks seems pretty poor returns for a seasoned vet, a solid contributor, on an ending contract. Seemingly the Nets didn't save much money either.

Yes, perhaps Nets wanted to really tank, and this is probably the first move in their race to the bottom. Perhaps that was all they would have eventually received. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but the way we have been seemingly giving away second round picks, this seems pretty solid return.

The conspiracy theorist in me feels that the league/agents are somehow trying to help big market/sexy teams/players (yes, Nets are that too, but right now, irrelevant). Somehow big market teams seem to find a trade, even with a bare cupboard, that keeps them relevant.

he just isn’t worth a first, especially on an expiring deal. And like you said they want a rebuilding year, hence trading him early instead of holding out for a better deal 3 weeks from now that could hurt the real prize, their first round pick status.
