Had a ‘source’ whose been working on environmental stuff for the railyard for the last couple of years so I knew about the new entertainment district and theater because he would not stop talking about it every single damn time we drove past it when I was back in town a couple of weeks ago. I did not know about the stadium being a thing getting done.

I’m pretty out of the loop with SacRepublic and soccer in general … Will this be the third time Republic FC is getting plans for a rail yard stadium? But privately funded so, this one should stick probably?

Infrastructure stuff is further along and the plans for the non-stadium stuff is further along to the point where things can actually get done.

The other times plans all revolved around MLS, I don't think that door has slammed shut, but the league expanded a bunch and they missed their window during COVID (I quit watching MLS around this time, I have nothing good to say) so if they are building this for the USL Republic that's pretty awesome, and I assume it will stick.

And to tie in to the OTHER thread - they say the stadium will be expandable to MLS...is it even remotely plausible to build a soccer stadium that could also hold MLB? Seems like the dimensions wouldn't work.

Yeah, remembering the Coliseum with NFL...that's probably totally implausible.

When Timbers came to MLS they threw out the Beavers AAA club. NYCFC played in Yankee Stadium, the experience is viewed as the worst in the league. It's just a terrible look and even sharing the field with NFL/NCAA football will get soccer fans mocking the club. Hopefully it remains a soccer specific stadium (SSS) and maybe they can do a handful of special events, or concerts there.

Carmichael Dave was on the radio for a bit this afternoon and said (or confirmed?) that there is a smaller venue for music, etc., also being constructed on the site. Sounds like they want to capture various events with a couple of venues at the same location?

Tower Bridge Battalion just shared on their facebook that the city council has approved the term sheet for the venue to move forward.
