It’s interesting that Kev said the plan is to keep people out of the paint and make teams beat us with the 3. That strategy would seem to be at odds with analytics. Sure paint touches are higher percentage shots and they don’t intend to allow open three point shots but when teams shoot 40 perfectly from three on us it’s tough to win.

I’d be really curious to see what the tightly guarded/open/wide open splits looked like in this game compared to the last 2.

This got zero likes for a reason. Nobody wants it to be someone's fault. The problem was Brown threw Keon way under the bus for Huerter when he should have eased him back in. Huerter wasn't ready game 1, and was starting to get comfortable game 2. It's on Brown to have eased him back in.

I still think Huerter would absolutely slay off the bench. But I'm not the coach.

Amd this passive aggressive posting isn't conducive to your role as admin. You were always much better than that. Ijs.
I only made like 80 posts in this thread with some actual basketball analysis, but go off on the one cheeky post I made. All you, king.

I'm also absolutely not an admin. They have to be much nicer, which isn't nearly as fun.

And the Huerter discourse hasn't been what you just stated and you know that. People were calling him worthless, people were asking why he was even on the team, that he only bricks shots, etc. Weirdly enough, none of those posters have said much lately. So yes, I'm going to call out that nonsense for what it is; as I've always done on this forum when people have a bad take and get called out on it.

Uhhh what??? That’s a horrible game plan… did we not learn from last year?

Kings finally looking like a playoff team playing against a lottery team.
Just a glimpse, but very encouraging. We pretty much kept the comfortable lead throughout the game, that's what a playoff team should do with a lottery team. That wasn't the case last season.
- DDR gave us that breathing room to keep the scoring distance each time they were trying to run. That's why we brought him.
- The flow of the game is beautiful to watch when Kevin is back to his form. A cherry on top; a very solid defense.
- When we shoot 40% from the deep no team is unbeatable. Hope we can keep the stride.

I suppose when you are a smaller ball club that isn't strong defensively, in general you have to give up something and that appears to be the approach here

This is one of those games where having DeRozan really helped.

It felt like we were playing down to our competition in that 1st half. DeRozan basically said “not today” and put the team on his back scoring wise to keep us afloat/a little ahead. In past seasons, we could have easily been down 5-10 points at half time which then makes this all of a sudden a nail biter.

I know some have mentioned it, but I think he’ll be a good floor raiser for us and help us avoid having many “bad losses” (which will be much needed in this bloodbath that is called the western conference).

most were saying he should come off the bench. I will say the Huerter DeMarr 2 man action was pretty nice.

Our offense has been fairly special over the last few seasons, but one big hole is that when the ball movement stalled/we stopped hitting shots, things got real antsy if Fox or Monk couldn't create. That first half from DDR was EXACTLY what was missing from this offense; just someone where you can dump the ball, let him go draw a foul, stop a run and slow the game down a bit.

Some way too early team stats:

ORtg: 7th
DRtg: 16th
NetRtg: 11th

FT rate: 6th
3PA rate: 12th
Pace: 10th
eFG%: 6th
TOV%: 8th

Overall, these are trending in the direction we want. If you told me we'd end the season as the 16th ranked defense, I'd 1000% take that. But we need to find a way to sneak into the top 5 offensively to be a team i'd believe in winning a playoff series.

I still think in order to fully unleash Keegan and bring size to the starting lineup, we need a bigger body at the 4. We just aren’t big or long enough as a team and it’s a huge problem when we are matched up against teams that are. It forces Domas to be put in unfavorable situations and when he gets in foul trouble, we generally don’t do well. He isn’t quick enough (in any direction) to handle mobile big men. Keegan is a stop gap but you can’t expect him to guard everyone all the time. We need better balance.

Definitely need a big man in the front court. He doesn't need to be a "unicorn" type just better than Len.
