Kings picking 13th overall (formerly the draft lotto thread)

Give me a reason why. Tell me why the ISO stat is pointless. Where does Monk rank? Who is in the top 30?
I don't care about 1.2 possessions per game. That's the definition of statistically insignificant. Top 30 are the best players because they're the best players and allowed to ISO. You think we're letting Trey Lyles go get ISO possessions?

Of course you don't. OK, what is the cause of the Kings decline? What is the top 30 in that ISO stat? What is Monk's rank in that top 30? What is Fox's? What is the percentile between the two and where do they compare to either top 1 or 2 options in the league? Monk is allowed to ISO to some extent, in those ISO stats what is the result when he does? If you aren't scoring via a system the only obvious different option is isolation play, if not what is it?

The Ringers latest mock has us taking Knecht at 13. I know that would be ideal to some.
Carter, Edey, Saluan and Ware all going before and Holland and Dillingham going after.
I don’t really put much stock into any mocks, but perhaps things are shaping up a bit post combine and workouts under way.

Draft can’t get here fast enough. I really don’t think we are making a selection so I will be very intrigued to hear “this pick is going to (mystery team)”
I agree. I'm a little more iffy since the talk of 13 and more going out started popping up. That might mean Monte is looking for a bigger name and if it doesn't go down, Monte might do what he's done in the recent past and just stay the course.

Orlando with Isaac coming back...
Jonathan Issac is on the final year of his contract and is an ending contract, we would also have to send back $17 mil in contracts to make it work.

I would be interested in Issac, if we can sign him to a long term contract. Otherwise, it's probably be better to keep a cost controlled asset on a rookie contract.

This is starting to feel like deja vu.... I was sure we'd do something meaningful around last year's draft.... then sure we dumped Holmes for a big FA swing..... then sure we'd hear about that big trade at the deadline.... I'm not counting on any of it. Regardless of what everyone says, I think it's quite possible we just end up making the pick on draft night and I end up feeling deflated.

I would bet that Monte knows his time is up at the next deadline. Draft night isn't the end but if they hold onto Huerter and Barnes he needs to have assurances from Brown that they are going to be returning to their 2023 roles.

I won’t feel deflated if it’s Carter or one of the other guys I like in the draft. In fact I would love if we drafted someone that can help us, use future draft capital to grab player x and then get one guy with a midlevel that helps us ( unless Monk re-signs)

yeah, the whole Monk situation confuses the hell out of what I want from this offseason and draft, and free agency begins after the draft. Several possible Monk replacements could be sitting there at 13 including a couple, if still available, that could help straight away like Carter and Knecht.

There is a Kings specific piece on no ceilings (here). Agree with their needs assessment - a skilled four and/or someone who can attack the rim. Don't like all of their suggestions for players but happy to concede I know less about these guys than them - and admit I like the idea of Holmes (without actually watching him).

The latest mix of workouts for the kings is interesting, particularly Bub Carrington. He is beloved by a bunch of draft nerds and is seen as a guy who could be picked mid first
Carrington has good size for a combo guard 6’5 , 6’9 wingspan and only a freshman so might have a lot of room for growth as a player. Curious who else the Kings are looking at.
Also see Clingan now going 13 on nbadraft.net, personally I wouldn’t mind that at all.

Figured I'd put up the full list.

It's a bit interesting that Carrington and George are consistently mocked at the end of the first round, where we don't have a pick. #13 seems a reach for either one, but it would be hard to complain that we're keeping our options open.

I haven’t seen his latest big board yet but Vecenie has moved Bub into his top ten according to one of his latest podcasts.

And I don’t know why George is so low. He’s very gifted at dribble, pass and shoot. Has positional size and is one of the late growth spurt dudes.

Interesting that the talent tiers in this draft are pretty flat, but mocks still like to make the top 15 seem like they are on a different tier.

This piece (a mock from Wasserman) suggests that Carter has worked out for the Kings - I haven't seen that elsewhere though perhaps I missed it:

(FWIW, this mock has Carter replacing Cody Williams in the "canonical" top-12, and us taking Cody.)
That doesn't surprise me. Carter seems like the type of dude to agree to (and crush) as many workouts as he can.

If the actual draft were to play out as that mock suggests, I'd hope that the Thunder would grab Cody Williams to pair with his brother and that Salaun would fall to the Kings. He's definitely a guy I've changed my mind about over the last couple weeks.

Salaun is still incredibly raw, but the more I watch him, the more I like (a) his constant effort on both ends and (b) his continual improvement. He's going to take a while, but he seems coachable and determined to reach his ceiling.

I wish he had more vertical pop (his struggles to finish in traffic and really, really low block numbers speak to that as an issue) but in a weak draft, I think he's a gamble worth taking.

Doesn’t seem like a guy Monte and org would take since Monte and coaching staff needs a contributor now…….reason being the shopping of the pick. Its win now time.
