How about Brown "forcing" him to do about 'half' of this, by calling his number
He obviously should, but in Dallas Barnes still kind of hit that ceiling. The Mavs thought they were getting the next Carmelo on a cheaper contract and when he topped out those fans turned on him too even though he wasn't playing poorly, lol.

Yeah, but part of the fact is that Barnes is just not this guy every night. He's actually too cerebral as a player to launch away. It takes mindlessness to do that sometimes and this is why a lot of big number players IQ's don't match their shot attempts. Dallas gave him his chance and he is a good 3rd option if pushed. Not more every night.
I think we were all okay with Barnes being a good 3rd option. That's why he was re-signed in the absence of any affordable alternatives. It's when he's on the court for 30 minutes and has less than 5 combined rebounds and shot attempts where the pitchforks start to come out.

Yeah, but that's not his directive. He's not turning down shots, his role has been usurped by Keegan this year. You can see where the shot attempts have gone on average. Now why Brown doesn't involve him via play calls is just what it is. Brown doesn't call the plays. He is tonight though, but even that I'd bet was partly directive.

I agree. But it's put us in an awkward situation where his trade value is suppressed but we're paying him too much to be a stand in the corner guy. I get Brown wanting to be hands-off with the offense and I wouldn't want him coaching for trade value anyway. I can't really blame Barnes either.. he's a finisher not an initiator. He's just playing how he's always played. It's just unfortunate is all and I hope we're able to figure out a better way to utilize him.

Yes. Why yes they are. The question is who is Monte trying to prove it to that Barnes still has it.
You can argue how good "it" is with HB, but it's pretty apparent he can still do what he's always done. Including disappearing for long stretches of time

Whether for trade or production, the team needs to figure out how to keep him involved like this
