Kings trade rumor SZN 2023-2024 edition!

I’m curious what could have happened in a two hour window to turn from potential trade partner to talks are off? The Kings have likely had the same package available for the last month. There is just no way they were trading Keegan for a soon to be 30 year old Siakam even if he was signed for a couple more years.
Might have just been "We have a Moody/Kuminga offer, if you want Siakam, you include Keegan" sort of demand from Masai and we told him to go jump in a lake.

I think Toronto is leaking heavily which is also why the Captain Obvious report came out today that Kings have made HB, KH and DM available.

Probably trying to leak "trade imminent" to get someone to jump. Still think ATL and IND more likely suitors. Unless they are going to try to reclaim Moody and Kuminga, but sounds like Moody is now forced back into Kerr's rotation via the CP3 injury and Kuminga is the bigger question mark there. Toronto's play would almost hinge on taking back CP3, waiving him, and re-signing Siakam or just going all in on free agency next year.

That’s what it sounded like to me.

it’s strange to have something like this reported like it’s so definitive, but I seem to remember something similar with the Ben Simmons talks.

I don't think Siakam fits our team very well. He's a high-volume scorer who doesn't rebound very well for his size, doesn't shoot the ball well from three, and is a mediocre to poor shot blocker. His principal value lies in his ability to facilitate the offense and create open looks from the PF/C position which makes him duplicative with Sabonis. We'd have exactly the same problems we have now with Siakam on the roster and he's going to want $40 million per year to go on being a bad fit for us.

We don't need another big name, or All Star, or go-to scorer. We just need guys who will elevate our defense from non-existent to respectable. Some of that is skill-set -- we need players who fill in areas where we're weak. Someone who is strong on the boards. Someone who can protect the paint and prevent easy layups and dunks. Someone who can navigate screens and consistently contest outside shots effectively. And some of that is personality -- we don't just need good defenders, we need those good defenders to also be outspoken and demand accountability from everyone on the team.

If Siakam is moved, I hope its to Detroit. He seems fine with the cold and would hate to see the Warriors get him.

Barnes and even Davion looked pretty good last night . When they contribute like that wouldn't mind keeping them around but also fine trading if they bring us a better piece. Huerter however, looks like a player that desperately needs a change, I just have a hard time imagining much interest.

Hard to imagine a deal that would've made sense given that Siakam is expiring - maybe some combination of Davion / Huerter / Barnes / picks but nothing the Raptors would really need

My guess is Toronto wanted Keegan which is why Shams reversed course in 2 hours to say talks were dead
There seems to be a widespread acceptance in Shams report. I’m not familiar enough with him to know…. Is he that wired in and consistently accurate? Or should we be looking for at least one other source before assuming this is the final word?

he’s considered probably second to Woj as far as intel but he’s been wrong a handful of times over the last year. The report seems pretty cut and dry so I tend to believe it

Who do you have in mind?
I posted some trade ideas earlier in the thread...

For the PF spot I like Onyeka Okongwu. Atlanta has him 8th on their depth chart but I think he would consistently be top 10 in rebounds and blocked shots with starters minutes. He's also a good screen setter and roller/lob threat and can shoot the mid-range. My hope is that they trade for Siakam and see Okongwu is expendable since he already signed a 4yr extension that averages around $15 million a year.

Xavier Tillman on the Grizzlies is on an expiring rookie deal and is only getting limited minutes so he could be a cheap guy to take a chance on. He's not going to be a scorer and he would not help our FT woes at all but he's one of only a handful of guys who can guard wings on the perimeter and also defend the area near the basket.

At the SG spot I like De'Anthony Melton. Philly is one of the top 3 teams in the East this year and he's moved into the starting spot after the Harden trade so I don't know that he's gettable mid-season but he's also a free agent so if Philly flames out in the playoffs and wants to go in a different direction with all their cap space, we could swoop in. We'd probably have to clear some salary first though. He's developed into a pretty good shooter (37-40% from three the last 4 years). On offense he plays a little like Malik Monk with some shot creation skills and a pretty good catch and shoot or pull up jumper. On defense he's one of the best in he league at generating steals and deflections in the passing lanes and he's also a solid on-ball defender.

There's also Matisse Thybulle who is limited to a catch and shoot roll on offense but is one of the elite players in the league at contesting jumpers without fouling. He signed a 3 year deal for $11 million per season last summer but Portland is a last place team so there's likely to be a lot of roster turnover up there.

Like most people I'm looking at the Bulls imploding and wondering if Alex Caruso gets moved as part of a rebuilding effort there. He's elite at generating on-ball pressure and also has pretty good size to match up with either guards or wings.

Marcus Smart is still one of the best defenders in the league and he hasn't gotten off to the greatest start with Memphis. He certainly would fit the bill as a tone-setter on the defensive side though I wonder given Davion Mitchell's shrinking role if he would be a poor fit here too.

I'm sure there's a lot of guys I don't know about around the league who are under the radar defensive specialists. It's still really hard to measure defensive performance statistically and I'm not paying for any of the pay wall websites with their own proprietary advanced stats, but those are the first names that come to mind for me.

Thoughts on Davion+Huerter for Terry Rozier and have him be our 6th man and start Monk?

Huerter-Mitchell-McGee for Rozier-Mark Williams works in the trade machine

ham mentioned that this was likely a couple days ago. It is interesting that they did it 4 days earlier than necessary. Maybe Monte is just looking for optionality

And please no Buddy and Bogi talks here like twitter lol. We got rid of the stink from the last regime. Although I do like Bogi, we don’t another revolving door defensive player imo
