Tournament Play

Hello guys …..I’m backkkkk lol

we are getting CJ McCollum back today and shooter Trey Murphy may be back by the tournament game against you guys on Monday lol. Zion aka Zhanos will be waiting.
No way we lose to you all at home unless we just don't play you all very well which DOES happen quite a bit. We play the warriors kinda bad, and Houston had our number as well as the Pels this year. Actually those are the only three teams to beat up this year. We play the Lakers like champs. We have won like 8 out of the last 9 against them if I am not mistaken.

Way back when we had Vlade and Webber we would always lose to the Knicks and the Pacers for some reason. We were pretty good against everyone else! I was always rooting against Pacers and Knicks back then so we wouldn't have to play them if we were in the finals. The East coast teams we lose to all the time now are the Celtics, and Bucks, but they both are better than the Knicks and Pacers of old.

Kings have no Answer for Zion and he frees up everyone else. Kings will triple team Zion and everyone will have open shots. It’s really simple

I assume the break in the schdule of for this. Kings don't have a game for a whole week from Monday to Monday?
The schedule is still TBD due to the In-Season Tournament. We'll play Quarterfinals on Monday, either a Semifinal or a consolation game later in the week, and then the Final if we advance. We will not play a third game in the week if we do not make it to the Final.

The NBA needs to make the In Season Tournament Finals game Win count for the Champion team.

Why would a team want to play an extra game in an already long 82 game season and risk injury, play better teams in the knock out rounds and being more tired than every other team?

The Champion of the In Season Tournament should be given a bonus Win in the playoff seeding (if that team get in the playoffs). That way, the winner will have a edge in the playoff seeding, (i.e. the champion would get their record bumped from 52-30 from the regular season, to 53-30 for the playoff seeding). That way the Champion would have the tie-breaker with any team that winds up with the same record as them. This would give real meaning to winning the In Season Tournament and give teams a reason to play the extra game outside of the extra cash.
I said before and still think it should come with an auto-seed bump. Like if a lotto team it puts you in the play in. If a play in team guarantees seed 7. If a playoff team it moves you up at least one seed and possibly grants HCA in a series or two.

the money is nice but after taxes and agent fees and other stuff it is probably like 200k for guys earning millions per year. Would be nice if guys on a 2-way receive a payout though. And any kind of ping pong ball motivation is strange because you're asking guys to win a trophy to help them draft their potential replacement? lol

Are you under the impression that only the guys making "millions" get a share of the money?

And I'm going to stand on the IST impacting either the playoffs or the draft to be terrible ideas. I'm perfectly fine with the IST being a thing unto itself, and I wish more people would get over their resistance to change, and their need for something to have a bearing on what they're already familiar with in order to "validate" or "justify" something new. If we need for the IST to impact something that already exists (and I don't stipulate that that is necessary), the least terrible idea I've heard thus far has been to give the winning team an additional challenge.

No I'm aware everyone who plays gets 500k. Just that for at least the top 10 guys on the team that is a pittance of their regular pay.

The reason I say playoff boost is because it's kind of like how the domestic soccer tournaments which they clearly stole this idea from award Champions League berths.

For someone making 35M per season, 500K represents roughly 1.5% of their salary. That might not seem like much but it's not insignificant either.

For a blue collar worker making 50K per year, 1.5% represents 750 bucks. I think most would find the $750 motivating and useful despite it representing such a small percentage of their overall salary.

I think the same applies to even the richest NBA players, who almost always seem to be motivated by making more money.

I wouldn't really go out of my way for 1.5% of my salary. Especially if someone did it one better than me so I got nothing.

also just to be clear as a fan of tournaments I'm all in on this which is why I am also all in on raising the stakes to really mean something.

I'm trying to understand it, but I can't really get excited just because someone(the media esp.) told me something was exciting. The thing has to actually be exciting.

It seems the players are putting more effort and thats making the games a little more interesting. But the tournament itself didn't make me want to root for the kings win over warriors more. It was already a division, conference and rivalry game. Which all hold more weight in more meaningful ways.

So I'm glad it's getting the players to do their job better, I guess.

It was really interesting in the Minnesota game that the Kings had the game in hand but still played until the final buzzer because they knew point differential could come into play with a loss vs. Golden State. The fans in Target Center were p'd at our last bucket. I'm glad that it seemed all the teams took it seriously.

Yeah I saw one game clip where the coaches had to talk for a minute becuase the other was having his guys foul, or run up the score, or something.

And the first night of the IST there were 3 or 4 "fights". Not that I condone that, but clearly the players were at an elevated emotional level.

I think the games are more interesting because the season is young, the players aren't drained and in game management mode hasn't been activated.

I call shenanigans on that. $750 could help you purchase a decent guitar. ;)

Most in the middle class would be tickled pink to receive a $750 bonus or win that amount in their fantasy football league. Hell, most are so competitive that they get excited winning even when there’s no money at stake.

I think the evidence is pointing toward these players taking these tournament games a bit more seriously than the ones that aren’t. So it’s either the cache behind it or that they can earn the additional 500K. Or both.

Something is driving the extra motivation.

Since there are only quarterfinals, semifinals and finals in the In-Season Tournament....they ought to paint design the basketball court as BRONZE, SILVER and GOLDEN (FINALS).

It's not the money per se, but the money produces the cache. The Tournament has grown on me, in part because of how serious the players are taking it. It's kind of like back when the All Star Game was taken seriously. It is now a complete joke.
