Kings trade rumor SZN 2023-2024 edition!

Ignoring the snark by Parsons and Williams who are out of the league and have never been known to be pieces who win you rings, I think this makes sense. We have a fun unselfish team with good shooters and 2 All-NBA players. This is where you go if you want to win.

It’s one of the rare places where I feel like adding a 3rd star won’t shake up a whole lot because of the offensive system we’re running. At worst, we’d see more of the HB-iso plays from last year where we were the #1 ranked offense of all time.

I know I’ve brought this up before but not every player likes living in a big city. I personally love big cities, but there are a ton of downsides. The Sacramento sucks joke is pretty corny at this point.

I still am pretty skeptical of a big move coming, at least this year. Our tradeable assets are worse than other competitors unless you are throwing Keegan in to the mix and you better not be, especially for the players listed.

I would imagine a guy like Lavine would be thrilled to get traded to a winning situation. Lavine is half way through his career and the narrative on him is starting to turn sour, and three more years of crap in Chicago will be the nail in the coffin. He has made enough money to pay the taxes. If he cares about winning he would be jumping at the chance to join Fox/Sabonas.

I'm going to scream if we trade for Lavine. Monte has been so smart thus far, so I'm confident he's not going to fall for it, but he just does not improve this team. I actually think Malik is better right now and will be better going forward.
I tend to agree with you. It's tempting to add a 3rd star but there are a ton of questions about Lavine. What do you think our offer to Monk will be? 4yrs 90 million was the first number in my mind

The max we can pay him is 4/80 with early bird rights. But I have to imagine that we either have a "handshake" deal already in place with him or we have a plan to make sure he doesn't just walk in UFA. He was too important last year and he's backing that up this season with even better play.

Monk is close to untouchable in my eyes. Fox’s best buddy and an elite player off the bench, you don’t trade him away unless you are absolutely, and I mean absolutely, certain the player coming back is “the one” to round out the team and make our push to the promised land.

Agree. Not interested in LaVine.

We’re actually in pretty good shape at SG. Huerter, Monk, Duarte, and Jones is really good depth with a lot of versatility. If we’re looking to upgrade the SG spot, he needs to be a legit 2 way player/star (e.g., Desmond Bane). If he doesn’t fit that description, I’m fine rolling with what we have and seeing what someone like Jones could become.

The biggest opportunity to upgrade the roster is at PF while attempting to find that elusive prototype that complements Sabonis. Barnes is…
  • Lackluster on the glass (4.9 REB per36)
  • An average defender at best
  • A very limited rim protector (0.1 BLK per36)
  • Not nearly long enough (8’6” standing reach)
Now don’t get me wrong, I think Barnes is a solid player but in terms of improving both the fit and talent of the roster, PF should be the focus.

especially if said player is a family man and not looking to floss around town in their supercars

The perfect target remains OG.

dealing with Masai to acquire OG or Pascal would probably be too much of a headache but if you can't get another all-star/borderline all-star. Caruso is the one who can improve this team, has deep Playoff experience, knows his role and is a stout defender. Kings fans would love him immediately.

Probably prudent to just sit and wait for a couple of weeks to see which teams start falling down the standings more and more. If the Brooklyn Nets start slipping, I’d try to call Sean Marks and make an offer for DFS or at least Royce (The ultimate dream acquisition would be Mikal Bridges but I know we absolutely do not have the assets necessary to pull that off unless we move Keegan, which sorta defeats the point)

For me, the perfect target remains Herbert Jones. OG misses too many games and his salary requirements are a lot higher, which makes it harder to retain depth. Herbert is a better defender on the perimeter, IMO, and is making nice strides forward on offense. Throw whatever the Pelicans want at them in order to get the trade done.

Fox, Huerter/Monk, Herb, Murray, Sabonis

Serious question: Are you related to Herb or something because this is literally the only thing you post about.

No relative of mine and I don't know him from Adam, Eve or Steve.

The reason I harp on about it is because I feel the addition of Herb Jones to this roster would make the starting lineup as good as it can get... and I'm still ruing that a play was not made for him before the Pelicans extended him. Seriously, how many good forwards do they need? BI, Zion, Daniels, TM3, Herbert, Naji, Liddell, Earl-Robinson. I feel that Daniels can replace Herbert for them. They still have to work TM3 back into the lineup too.

Meanwhile, Barnes is better than only Naji, Lidell and Earl-Robinson. o_O

you could argue they do need him since BI and Zion are injured all the time.

then the question is what do we have that they want? They really don’t need picks at this point, they need to start winning now.

I go back and forth on whether we need a defensive stud vs a scorer. My gut tells me Keegan will eventually be that scorer but until he figures out how to be consistently aggressive and decisive he is going to have these big swings where he scores 17-25 when he is grooving or 7 when he is not. Do we have time to wait? If we don’t a bucket getter might make sense. Not really sold on Lavine being the answer. I do wonder about Derozan. He could give us a bit of that in between game we don’t have outside Fox. He is older so I wonder what his price tag will be? Could you sign him to a 2 year deal in the off season?

I look at tonight as a perfect example. Zion with 9 lay-ups, just simply turning around HB the entire 2nd quarter. Then Ingram just shooting over any defender in his way in the third. The offense was a bit off of course, but we know when we're rolling, we're the best offensive team in the NBA by a country mile. Defensively though? We've hovered to somewhere around average to very very bad in the 2 HOU games and tonight.

OG directly addresses every major problem with this team. Lavine just duplicates a skill-set we already have. And the beauty with OG is he basically gives HB level offensive game as well. But you're adding one of the best defenders in the NBA

I just don’t think we have the assets to get OG. Probably half the league is willing and able to give up 2 first round picks. Our young players are Huerter (they just drafted Dick) and Davion who probably has second round value right now. That won’t be enough to get it done imo. If you trade Keegan you just gave up an 18-22 ppg young guy who already plays above average defense on a rookie deal.

Keegan gets them laughed off even if they added Siakam cause we can’t pay both but I’d drive Keegan to the airport myself for Mikal Bridges. Mentioned Bridges because of the post below I’d add in multiple firsts as well

I'm in camp OG but the question is... where does he want to play next season? He holds all the cards with a player option. Toronto can technically trade him wherever they want but realistically, how much is a team going to offer for a 5 month rental? I think the most likely outcome is that money talks -- Toronto will keep him and max him in the off-season like Boston did with Jaylen Brown and they'll be handcuffed together for better or worse. There were some rumblings last season that OG was unhappy with his role though and they are currently hovering around the 10 seed so those of us hoping to pry him loose should probably be rooting for lots of ugly Raptors losses to poison the waters.

As easy as it is to write off as snark is Lou Will wrong? Sac isn't a place outsiders will choose but once someone gets traded here they'll fall in love and get stuck. I think he gives a pretty even handed assessment...

Ok just for fun go through all the teams in the NBA and find ones that
A)want him/ have a wing spot open
B) have assets
C) have a chance at re-signing him. IE Detroit has the assets to trade but I doubt he signs long term

I came up with

Philly - have valuable Clippers pick but that’s pretty far down the road and no young players

Miami-Herro, JJJ and a pick might be a nice haul

Atlanta- not super likely but Jalen Johnson and more might be intriguing

Dallas- THJ, Omax and 2 first rounders in 26 and 28? Might be the best offer

Memphis and New Orleans have picks and young players but things are a bit unstable for both franchises. Who knows if he would want to re-sign.

My best estimate is that Dallas is the biggest threat for his services. Having said that I think the most likely scenery is Toronto moves Siakam and re-signs OG.

Would Jeremi Grant or Brogdan make the Kings a contender? I would trade Huerter/filler for Brogdan regardless of injury issues, you could also than move Davion in that situation in a package with Barnes /pick to get a upgrade at SF/PF (depending where Keegan plays).

Fox/Brogdan
Brogdan/Monk
Murray/Duarte
?/Lyles
Sabonis/Len (you would have to move McGee or Sasha to make the trade for Brogdan)

The good thing about Brogdan he is an expiring next season making him even more valuable imo
