Would've been ok with the loss tonight - they played the full game. But the win is even nicer.
Fox making a bunch of FTs was very encouraging.

Kidd made a mistake keeping Wood out.
surprised he kept with Powell. Out of all their bigs, he’s the only one that doesn’t eat against the Kings…but chances are Wood and McGee are regularly not the guys and coaches won’t deviate from that just because of a certain matchup. Kidd wants Powell out there in general so Powell is going to be the guy.

Getting on my Davis soapbox again......get him more minutes, -- now.
It's not the answer people wanted but it's the one we get. That TD we saw for a stretch last year before he went down coming back is more needed than ever. That talent margin in the middle of the pack is 3 deep at every turn after the deadline and TD is the best shot to get a shot.

What a fun game to watch. The team played defense tonight. They were at the shooters on the catch all night.

Brown made a great adjustment moving Huerter to the 3 this game. Made a huge adjustment and worked well.
They decidedly were not at the shooters on the catch early on. But they did step that up in the 3rd and 4th.

We're comin!!!!!

That is a damn good team we just beat tonight.

De'Aaron took that game over at the end vs a team with Kyrie and Doncic. How bout that?

Masterful showing from Terence Davis off the bench.

In a game where Murray and Huerter struggled to shoot the ball for most of it we sure looked like a playoff team out there, or even a team that could win a series in the playoffs.

Also Lyles small-ball C in crunch time. I just think it's the move... he's a better rebounder than Metu and he lets you play 5-out on offense where Fox can either kick to him or have a a wide open paint with the rim protector drawn on Lyles. I think he's just better suited to battle with bigs because of his frame than Metu as well.

It's better offensively, it lets you experiment with more Huerter/TD at the 3 type lineups, it lets you find a role for TD once Monk comes back. Just no downside imo

We also saw Mike Brown go small with Lyles at the five after Domas fouled out and it once again left the other team in shambles. I appreciate Metu's been giving good effort of late but Trey is probably the answer at that spot right now.

Powell is a solid defender but Wood with Luka and Irving is the combo that's going to take them somewhere. They have decent defensive personnel trickled in but Luka and Irving is kind of like the Kings, good luck going with defense first, lol. Brown at least knows where his bread is buttered.

And Fox is at least capable of playing monster defense at the point of attack as well, which is a better situation than the Mavs who are going to have to deal with having two of the worst point of attack defenders in the league when games get tight.

Yup. This is one of the real silver linings from the trade deadline passing, the FO is comfy letting Lyles handle the 5 for us.

To an extent what you saw with Wood, we can recreate with Lyles. Either you leave Wood open to help on the Luka/Kyrie drive, or you give them a wide open lane to the rim. That's tough to stop and we couldn't during that stretch where Wood was on fire.

What's nice with Lyles is he can put the ball on the deck a little bit too. So if someone closes on him too hard, he can give you a straight line drive to the rim.

Yeah, with Lyles you can be far more effective on that draw and kick play. Sitting him in the corner is the concern. The Mavs were able to hide Luka on him in the 4th and it crunched down the paint. If they learn that they have a skilled small ball C and how to use it, it will take some pressure off of the others for sure.

Just be nice if we could have 2022 Huerter back.
What I see that Huerter's game is evolving - he is not only 3pt shooter, but he is spacing the floor with moving to the basket and lately he has more close basket points.
Maybe this is Brown idea or maybe teams are trying to defend better red velvet at 3pt line ....
