It's a minor miracle they were even able to win games with that frontline.

But honestly, even beyond Bagley, I think this fanbase's perception of centers and their defense is warped. Defensive stalwart bigs aren't exactly a Sacramento thing.

We went from Vlade, to Brad Miller, to Cousins, to WCS, to Holmes, to now Sabonis. All star offensively oriented bigs, or just bad centers in general, but especially bad defensively for those two.
So you are saying Luke was a good coach :)

By no means is Metu a long term answer as a backup C, but it’s hard to deny that he’s been our best option out of Metu, Holmes, Len, and Queta this year. If a trade is not coming, I’d like to just commit to Metu as the backup C unless a particular matchup requires someone like Len to body up a big C.

On/Off for our Centers
Sabonis = +12.4 (1,296 min)
Metu = +1.3 (293 min)
Holmes = -17.4 (231 min)
Len = -22.7 (40 min)
Queta = -45.0 (25 min)

PG - Fox (32 min) / Mitchell (16 min)
SG - Huerter (26 min) / Monk (22 min)
SF - Murray (28 min) / Okpala (16 min) / Huerter (4 min)
PF - Barnes (30 min) / Lyles (18 min)
C - Sabonis (32 min) / Metu (16 min)

Fox = 32 min
Sabonis = 32 min
Huerter = 30 min
Barnes = 30 min
Murray = 28 min
Monk = 22 min
Lyles = 18 min
Mitchell = 16 min
Okpala = 16 min
Metu = 16 min

Man is this team deep or what? You never know who will come up big, although i prefer us to be completely healthy of course. If Monk plays, we win that last annoying game IMO.
It’s really hard to game plan when you never know which of the opposing team’s dangerous players are going to be hot. I love it that we’re deep enough to pose this kind of headache!

Queta has played less minutes over the course of the season than any of the starters play in a single game. It's hard to draw any reliable conclusions from that. I'm fine sticking with Metu as the backup center for now but Queta potentially offers more of the size and skilllset we want out of that position. It would be nice to see him get more than spot minutes at some point.

It’s a fair point. I wouldn’t be opposed to Brown giving him a stretch of games where he is the backup C (like he did with Metu and Holmes). If he’s not helping, then maybe just go back to Metu for the rest of the year. If he is helping, perhaps you found a very cheap backup C allowing you to use that cap elsewhere.

There's obviously a caveat that basically all his shots are created for him, but those results are pretty dang close to a #3/#4 option already
How many shots did Rip Hamilton create for himself? How many shots does Klay Thompson create for himself? If Murray's potential caps out at Great Value Klay, he will definitely be an asset for the Kings.

That's basically where I am with this as well, but I'd play Len against all the bigger centers where we know from past experience that their size hurts us. Guys like Adams, Nurkic, Zubac, Gobert, and Jokic. So I'd split the backup center minutes between Metu and Len. Queta isn't a better NBA player than Len at this point and we don't have time to wait on him now, so save him for next season.

It’s obvious we have one all star center but finding a decent backup is becoming problematic. We see a couple good games from Holmes and Metu but nothing to me to suggest either of those are long term answers.

Now I think it’s has been a great quick rebuilding that has begun and like with monk and a few others. Now we need to keep up our position in the standings until Monte can bring in some reinforcements which are needed to help the drive to the playoffs.

Getting a quality big and another decent PF at the trade deadline will be critical.

We've been rebuilding since 2006; There's absolutely been NOTHING quick about it...:p:p:p

For sure. Especially when anchored by 2 elite creators in Sabonis and Fox, it's not a huge issue. And Keegan absolutely has all the makings of a special shooter long-term.

Len? He cant switch on defense, he is too slow and hes limited offensively, also he wont get any better at 29. Theres more benefit in letting Queta getting some minutes to get used to the NBA speed than playing Len.

On the other hand, i hope Metu gets solidified as the Backup C after this, Holmes had way too many chances already, its enough...

It seemed like he was getting an extended look from Coach for a few games there, but then he dropped back off the radar. Maybe the games have just been too close for on-the-job training?
