Vivek looking at buying Chelsea

Chelsea owes Abrahmhovic $1.5B in loans. Pretty certain buying a PL team, especially one like Chelsea, will either bankrupt Vivek or turn the team into a middle of the road PL team. The big teams all pretty much bleed money (see the $1.5b in loans over the yrs) and is pretty much a status symbol for Middle East and Asian billionaires. That is, their teams are marketing write offs. This is a head scratcher.

Maybe he’s starting to explore for an off-ramp? Haven’t heard a more than a peep about him since the executive search committee and McNair took over

I thought you answered your own question.
I should clarify that MLS sucks because they market themselves as a supporter driven league but they snuff out support. They champion SSS in towns like Portland and Sacramento but go ape over teams that play in American Football stadiums to one-time record crowds. For ownership I am sure it has a lot of perks. Nothing like an NBA team though. And it probably isn't the savviest investment for a guy like him either since the expansion fees kept going up from when Sac tried to get in the game. But Vivek could have maybe raised his social capital in Sacramento if he diversified and got one team to win. lol

“The sale of the club will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process. I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid. This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and Club. Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated. The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine. This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery.”

Chelsea fanbase should be very afraid if this comes to fruition
I’m currently a Chelsea fan. Currently, because I tend to follow top USMNT players rather than the teams themselves. They’re done, if Vivek wins the bid. Dude doesn’t have the money to bankroll the team like Abrahimovic.

Pretty certain he’s just the face of the group. Without a super league, which the Glazers tried to spearhead, I wouldn’t touch a PL team right now. That collapsed in a blaze of glory. https://www.manutd.com/en/news/deta...ce-new-super-league-competition-18-april-2021

Vivek should do what Billy Beane and other Americans are doing. Buy a second tier English team. Then try to dump money and innovation into the program. Hope to get promoted to the PL. Then likely raise more money at a higher valuation (PL tv money). https://www.forbes.com/sites/bobbym...g-a-move-into-english-soccer/?sh=68fdfe6e2dd5

Vivek has his head in the clouds. He doesn’t have anywhere near the type of money PL owners have to play around with their toys. Maybe if he’s part of a large consortium, because this will be one of the largest sales of a sports franchise anywhere.

Chelsea is out of his league in multiple facets. He couldn't handle the pressure. NBA fans aren't English premier league fans. If Vivek had control of the team and pulled some of the bush league crap he has pulled here PL fans would be stalking him at work and his home. Chelsea fans have been spoiled during Abramovich's reign as owner. Dude has burned cash like crazy because he could afford to. He loved chelsea and his easy way with cash showed it. Vivek doesn't have that type of money.

as a liverpool fan this will be a win-win for me... oh god please make him sell kings shares

english fans will torch him for every stupid move that he makes. after a year of vivek's reign there will be russian flags all over the west london (even due their support is scattered all over london and south-east of england)

i wonder what will be his first stupid move... fire coach tuchel and hiring some ex player like lampard? uh, or fabio capello or some other washed italian coach? :D

Vivek, to me, seems like somebody that would blow his entire wad just so everybody knew he could afford it.

He loves the idea of being one of those household name team owners like Jerry Jones or Mark Cuban…which is why he will never take a step back as owner of the Kings and most team decisions will have his fingerprints all over them. If this team ever got respectable he would be front and center with the media.

If he led a team to buy Chelsea I don’t think he would sell his stake in the Kings. Because then he would look like an owner who had to sell one asset to afford another and I don’t think that’s Vivek.

The premier League will never let a big club like Chelsea go under.

They'd happily let one of the small teams go bust though. Corrupt from top to bottom.

wild that it is owners notorious for being cheap

I like Liverpool if pressed (prefer German football) so I'm laughing and crying.

1. Vivek is not rich enough; is not connected enough to own Chelsea.
2. You cannot go from Abramovich to Vivek. It has to be someone like the Russian - a big powerful and rich businessman. We are not talking about Luton Town or Wigan.

Chelsea was not that elite when I was a kid but Abramovich made it elite and Vivek is just not that guy. I want him to sell the Kings and buy Chelsea. I really do but I know it is just a dream.
