Kings trade Tyrese and Buddy for Sabonis and Holiday and Lamb

I mean, we really wanted Sabonis. It was pretty clear reading the tea leaves he was option 2 behind Simmons if that was even really there. Perhaps we have another trade or two lined up that will make it make more sense two. Surely Monte knows what he can get for Holmes or Barnes and factored that in. And please, if "other GMs knew" like they don't call and ask? Maybe they called and low-balled and now they're butt hurt about it? I am guessing suddenly other GMs have their feet to the fire because a promising young player went out nobody thought was gettable?
Hali has been an analytics wet dream since the NBA draft.... No matter who we got back, we would be seen as insane for trading him away. Again, I think it's a fair trade... we're not talking Vlade Kangz fleecing here.
The one thing I am legit shocked at, was that it was basically a player for player trade. Granted, Hali is still a young asset, but those almost NEVER happen (of any significance) anymore.

Exactly. Listen, I don't feel great about this trade and will leave it at that.
BUT.
If THAT'S true - that Monte didn't make clear that he was open to dealing Tyrese, such that we'll never know what other packages might have been offered -- well, sheeee-it, that'd beyond outrageous and ALL bets are off. And the fact that Woj was apparently *shocked* that Tyrese was included lends credence to the quote.

- the team was really bad. The status quo was intolerable
- w/any luck, more dominoes will fall
- turns out that Monte is looking for deals with GM who also want to improve their teams
- we have no idea what was offered for whom
- we don't actually know how this will all work out.

Building around a young, lengthy play making guard is what any worthwhile GM would do in todays climate.
Anybody denying or fighting against that is utterly lost.

I don't love the deal but it's at least understandable. As for the part I bolded, could it be that most of these people are so shook that they didn't get the scoop? That the Kings didn't trade Fox to a top 6 team for nothing? Or a typical LOL KANGZ move, because at least - ON PAPER - we actually got the best player in the whole deal.

You dismiss his lack of rim protection rather easily as not a big issue … PJ Washington isn’t covering for that. Now I can see a scenario of say the Toronto route of getting guys like Pascal Siakham or Scottie Barnes but those guys don’t grow on trees. And even if they get those guys, goes back to shooting. They work in Toronto because Van Fleet and Gary Trent can shoot as well as anyone. Opposite of Fox & Mitchell. Mitchell can guard any guard in the league? I disagree

I just think it’s impossible to build enough shooting AND defense around Fox/Sabonis. Not even using hyperbole, like literally impossible I mean unless they sign 2 superstars. They have basically set themselves up where they have to have two ELITE shooters And defenders at the forward spot and even then I don’t see this team as anything more than a .500 team.
I mean no offense but you really believe the answer to the defensive question marks is having this lineup which you insinuated -

That’s a common theme. Literally need two more valuable players at the forwards spots in my opinion to compensate for lack of shooting / defense the core provide.
