Trade Deadline Thread

Pacers have been asking for two frps for Turner and te are lots of teams desperate for a big so I don’t think that offer gets it done.
That is what they were wanting for Lavert too but it didnt happen. However, if we had a shot to build the rest of that team as I listed (ie the Hornets and Utah trades went down), I would entertain a 2022 and then 2025 FRP. I think that gives you a lot of options, although it is a big ask for Turner's production, transitioning this team to fully commit on the defensive end may be worth it.

That being said, they also need to decide if they want to move on from Turner or not. They have 2 days to play chicken or stay committed to this team which wont help their draft stock nor their warchest moving forward. I dont see any team offering them 2 FRP for him. Its hard to justify on a defensive specialist (despite the fact that his defense, especially in a solid defensive team) may be worth it. However, rudy gobert he isnt.

BOS Gets: Buddy Hield
BOS Gives: Al Horford & Aaron Nesmith
Why for BOS? Get out of the luxury tax this season, free up time for R. Williams as the full time C (no more Williams-Horford combo), and add much needed floor spacing around Smart-Brown-Tatum-Williams.

CHA Gets: Richaun Holmes
CHA Gives: Ish Smith & PJ Washington
Why for CHA? They can backfill Washington's minutes with Hayward, Bridges, & Oubre. Holmes is a big upgrade at C for them

IND Gets: Tristan Thompson, Davion Mitchell, & Aaron Nesmith
IND Gives: Myles Turner
Why for IND? Move Turner for a top 10 pick from last year who fits well with Sabonis long term to help cover his defensive weaknesses. Nesmith gives them another recent 1st rounder to develop. Clears a lot of future cap space too

NYK Gets: Al Horford & Marvin Bagley
NYK Gives: Julius Randle & Evan Fournier
Why for NYK? Randle & Fournier are due $173 mil from 2022-23 season to the 2025-2026 season. This trade clears their cap sheet and allows them to sign two max free agents in the 2023 offseason while still having the following assets under contract: Barrett ($16 mil cap hold), Reddish ($11 mil cap hold), Toppin, Quickley, Grimes, McBride, 2022 NYK 1st, 2022 CHA 1st, 2023 NYK 1st, and 2023 DAL 1st. In the meantime, Horford would be a solid mentor for their young guys.

SAC Gets: Julius Randle, Myles Turner, Evan Fournier, Ish Smith, & PJ Washington
SAC Gives: Buddy Hield, Marvin Bagley, Richaun Holmes, Tristan Thompson, & Davion Mitchell
Why for SAC? Do this in an attempt to improve the team now while not sacrificing Fox, Haliburton, Barnes, or any future 1st round picks. Turner hopefully gives them a boost to the defense (but having Fox-Haliburton-Barnes-Randle next to him may make it difficult) while Randle is a buy-low candidate who was an all star just last year. Washington & Fournier give them some solid bench pieces as well.

PG - Fox / Smith
SG - Haliburton / Davis / Ramsey
SF - Barnes / Fournier / Harkless
PF - Randle / Washington / Metu / Woodard
C - Turner / Jones / Len
I like it for us but I think Indy and Knicks say no. Indy wants multiple first round picks or a good player and a frp. Frp already chosen aren’t as valuable as frp you can make yourself. And I don’t think Knicks would trade randle and fournier for horford and bags. Again I like it for us tho

Because they might be the only option. Buddy's role has continued to decline in every month practically. Breaking up his contract before you potentially have to attach assets to him to get him out the door is something that has to be considered. And taking on a 21 year old with direct history to one of your "core" isn't so bad. I'm also sure a future 1st or something comes back as well. And I hate to tell you, Monte already dealt him to LA once. If a team uses Buddy better and he buys in, almost any trade is going to be a loss on the back end for the Kings. I'm saying before he becomes a Jason Thompson level impediment get out. The guard team experiment didn't work, it's over.
we can always trade him next season. This franchise ain’t one player away from being good, what’s one more bad season for us

The longer you sit on buddy, the harder it will be to move him until he is expiring (2 more years). The longer he is here, the more hindrance he is to Mitchell, hali and to an extent, fox. He's just a bonehead who can shoot.

We have to decide if we think honestly we can rebuild via the draft or do we need to be aggressive in the trade arena. If its the draft, then fox has to go. He is the only piece we have that can garner more than 1 pick. Furthermore he and barnes are the only pieces which can bring back a pick and player of value. But moving him for another player in his around his same level (Randle or Sabonis) without us building our warchest, especially if he doesnt fit our other pieces in Hali/Mitchell, is a lateral move at best but more likely a step back given that player is likely older than fox.

If we are willing to make moves, we have to be ok with possiblely over paying a bit (ie giving 2 FRP for Turner IF our other moves build the team forward).

You make good points but im in the boat where if Vivek is still meddling this franchise has no chance to make it. We are damned if we do damned if we don’t.

I don't get the knock on Thibs. He makes teams better wherever he goes and he runs a specific style. He can't run his style that is a proven winner unless you get him the players he wants. This is a Kangz type move if anything.
He has a history of playing guys so much that their bodies literally break down and is a control freak who pretty much alienates everyone he comes in contact with aside from D-Rose, who he keeps acquiring presumably because he feels bad about ruining his career as an All-Star.

sure, he gets short term results but nothing he does has ever been conducive to longterm success.

I appreciate your efforts, it’s good entertainment when i’m just waking up to that first cup of coffee here in Australia.
Anyways if we can walk away at the deadline with both Turner and Washington I’d consider that success. I like Mitchell but am less ready to give up on Fox unless he’s truly checked out. Recon Monte might disagree seeing Mitchell is his pick.
More and more I’m ready for youth, picks and the rebuild. Turner might be out for awhile so could help with that.

That's not fair. Taj Gibson loves him too!

Taj Gibson also is just happy to not only still be in the league but also to be getting paid more than the league minimum. (Seriously, the dude’s getting paid 5 million dollars to take minutes from Obi and Mitchell Robinson and Nerlens Noel)

I've written off this season so Im all about getting Turner via 2023 and stashing him on the IR list. Agreed with you that IM not ready to give up on Fox. I would move him for the right package, but would prefer he and Hali stay. Consequently Im ok moving mitchell if the package (like turner) calls for it. My worry though is we will trade pieces that arent working for pieces that dont fit (Sabonis, Randle, a bag of chips...with monte, his drafting is logical but trades are not). Turner and PJ are a good start. If Utah, wants Barnes badly, I will take a first, Royce O'neale (who is one of their best defenders) and Ingles off their hands giving us his 13M, TT's 9.7M and Bagley's 11M expiring contracts to play with, and throw that money in the off season into players like Bobby portis and/or Yuta Watanbe who spread the floor and plays solid defense. There are moves to make beyond Turner that will help this team win next year and they arent necessarily moving Fox and Hali. But having turner, i think, would be huge for this team.

While I can appreciate the sentiment, it's a tall order for any GM to trade at least three major rotation players right on the cusp of the trade deadline, especially when factoring in the hefty contacts for Fox and Hield.

You're essentially guaranteeing your own departure. ;)
I'm actually more concerned with what we get out of that Kings' group rather than who we send out of it. The only exception is Buddy. I want him gone yesterday, no exceptions, limitations or conditions. In fact, I'd send Team X OUR 2nd rounder to get rid of him. GIVE the Lakers a 2nd rounder to take him. That's a perfect poison pawn that would doom the Lakers. If they get in the playoffs we can watch Buddy do something stupid at a critical juncture to doom their championship aspirations.

You do if it's a ticking time bomb. It's too late, he has to be moved, the situation is too negative. If Monte can scrap out a better deal good, but he had him dealt once then gave it a go and it didn't work, he has to cut his losses now. Considering his role he is the type of player that depending on how they play him from here on could go from a solid contract to an albatross in a hurry.
He's already an albatross. He's been an albatross for years now. He's now entered into the Jonah phase. Quick, toss him overboard!
