Blow It Up

If the goal this year was to be competitive and make the playoffs, no GM could possibly look at where we are and think that all we need are some "tweaks".

The thing is that almost every other team at the bottom half of the Western conference is having as many bad games as we are. The T-Wolves got curb stomped by these same exact Cavs last night (KAT even had a Kangz-esque angry press conference after the game!) and the Blazers are a freaking mess that will be missing their second best player for the foreseeable future. Couple that with the Lakers being the Lakerzzz, Denver being super injured, and Dallas being uninspiring as hell and the Kings are somehow still not just in the thick of things for a play-in spot but within spitting distance of the 6th seed in the western conference.

This isn't an argument for a "win now" move by any means but just a way of saying that VIvek and Monte might not be as eager to burn the house down as this forum is.

And they shouldn't yet. They have turned the corner a bit recently. They blew a valuable summer and that's lost now but they have a little window here.

Blow it up, and blow it up again and again.

I have more fun thinking “what if” about lotto luck and prospects than “what if” about making the first round and getting swept IF everything breaks right, which it hasn’t for 15 years.

It’s the only way. We aren’t getting a top flight player via free agency, and we sure as hell aren’t getting one via trade with our “war chest”.

Blow it uppppppp!!!! Everything Vlade era got that Vlade softboy low bbiq stank on it. Blow it up!!

My problem with this team as always. Everything is half baked. If you rebuild you aim for the first pick. If you want to "win now", there is some decent players like Turner, Sabonis out there, throw in your first round pick and get them. It may not be ideal but at least you are trying. Small tweaks won't work for this team.

We will see after Dec 15 but I won't hold my breath for it.

Keeping all options open Monte…..

They just need to move Fox/Barnes/Buddy none of these guys give you any bang for your buck when it comes to winning, I don't even consider that blowing it up since you can't blow up an 11th seed. Moving these 3 for even decent level talent and freeing yourself of the burden of their contracts is the way to go and will only improve the team. Buddy you MIGHT keep as a fit due to his shooting but the other two have to go.]

The Kings could easily retool and become a playoff team by next season if they play their cards right and have luck with injuries.

At the start of the season they were playing some defence and it was fun. But the wins faded quickly. Now we are back to pace. Lots of points, lots of running, no defence and is sooooo boring. The result is the same.

This is pretty much like draft day. I appreciate you trying to hold back the tide with logic but I'm afraid most have already got their pitchforks out and sharpened and even if this team does make the playoffs they'll find something to complain about.

Making playoffs with a sub 500. record or through some gimmick play in system is just more fools gold. It's not like the Kings are the Phoenix Suns of the Dragic years where you win 48 games in the toughest probably ever Western Conference and still don't make an 8th seed.

making the 10-seed is almost the worst possible outcome of this season. Likely means keeping this bad zero upside squad intact and possibly earning Gentry an extension? WHO WANTS THAT?!

Even with an all out, sell everything tank the highest we're likely to get in the lottery is 7th. So we would have nothing and a 7th overall pick and multiple seasons of unwatchable basketball to look forward to. That's fools gold.

The highest in the lottery is the 7th pick? The odds clearly say otherwise.

Are the Kings currently watchable?

I’d most certainly rather watch bad players running around trying their tails off (4th quarter) than better players going through the motions and winning just enough not to be terrible.

I’m sick of the middling nonsense. There’s no direction. They can’t go up, because the talent isn’t there. Blow it up, go down, and start over again.

Then don't watch?

We've been there before. How much fun was that 17 win season? Quincy Douby, Spencer Hawes, Rashad McCants, Donte Greene! Look how far all those top picks we stockpiled have propelled us. We're middling because we have no identity. The talent is there but most of them are playing below their potential. I don't know how to solve that but making a couple of trades and finding a quality coach is much more realistic as a growth model than hoping for lottery luck to shine on us that almost never does, not to mention making the right picks. Gambling isn't a strategy.

I agree - I’d much rather watch a team of young upstarts hungry to prove themselves that play hard every night than this current Kings mediocre core of softies.

Give the fans some players with heart, hustle, and toughness - on the defensive end especially.

Excluding the few guys on the roster that ARE giving effort, watching the garbage we are seeing from the rest of these fools is nothing short of demoralizing.

Get the losers out of here and bring in some winners.

The Kings need a catharsis to establish a winning culture.

No move is a sure thing - each one is a calculated risk.

It all starts at the top. Otherwise it’s just a cycle of losing. Complain about current team, play the scrubs, complain that they suck too, draft poorly. Complain that the drafted players suck and would rather watch scrubs ( which I doubt), play the scrubs, draft poorly. Repeat.

It depends how you lose. The Kings have been waving the white flag before the games begin. It's one thing to have bad shooting performances or being lethargic because you've played a back-to-back at the end of a seven game road trip. It's entirely different when you come off several days of rest and your defense is non-existent. To my mind, that's intentional carelessness and laziness, which is inexcusable. Face it: This team is just going through the motions.

yup if we want to tank it should be next season when all the other teams tanking now are working on winning more

If this franchise for once followed an educated strategy for couple of years then take your own advice. Im sure you would be back after we got couple of top 3 draft picks plus additional late first rounders. This garbage has been going on long enough. Not enough talent, zero possibility to be an actuall contender and year after year picking 7-12th hoping for a miracle. Thats a strategy for idiots, literally fools gold.

If you want, go look back at these same discussions on 2017 and think back wether we would be better now if we actually prioritized future success instead of hoping to be close to .500
