Mark Jones named new TV PBP voice

Maybe Christie is a coward...I have no idea. If Grant 100% isn't a racist then Christie should have stood up for him....but he went silent for whatever reason. At the end of the day, Grant's 30 years of work in this city was over because of a stupid tweet from DeMarcus Cousins. Really?? Can't believe that guy got the best of him.

Could have been stuck between a rock and a hard place. Back the guy that the team that employs you just fired or stay silent and guarantee that you keep your job.

There's one announcer who had countless issues with former players in the past and it certainly wasn't the G-Man.

I'm fine with (and agree with) some of the issues people have with Mark Jones being our head play-by-play guy. But guys around the league and players like him and he's got name recognition value in the league beyond "Guy who says 'If you don't like that, you don't like NBA basketball' at least once a game."

But to advocate for Grant effin' Napear over him?! Grant had repeated issues with pretty much any Kings player not named Vlade, Peja, or Scot Pollard (and in the case of Vlade and Peja, it may have even just been a case of them being too nice to rebuff Grant's weird advances), defended Donald Sterling for some reason, and was once one of the biggest advocates for moving the team to Anaheim because the Maloofs promised him he could announce games for them there and he thought it would help his national career. Grant should've been gone years ago and certainly burned every single bridge he possibly could on the way out of town last year and that's beyond him being (or not if you're being incredibly charitable when it comes to his side of the story) a potential out-and-out racist. I bid him good riddance and best of luck with those rising Miami seas.

I have no idea if Grant is a "racist" or not and neither does anybody on this board, but why would a racist make a career being around African American basketball players, and have a ton of passion for the team? It really makes no sense.

He's an obnoxious New Yorker who has a weird blowup temper thing going on but that doesn't make him a racist. It's much more believable that there have been some players (who make millions and are pretty commonly known as premadonnas) who just don't like him and conveniently call him a racist.

If you think I'm wrong, please link some videos, credible articles, etc. that show him being a racist.

Opinions of who is a better announcer ultimately are subjective. With that being said...

I'm glad Grant has moved on. I think his calls were stale. He didn't put effort into introducing new material for the past ten-plus years of his PBP tenure with the Kings. I would just mute the games and put on music while I watched the game so I didn't have to listen to his BS lectures about getting into the penalty early and how a tech free throw would cost the Kings the game even though it's the early third quarter.

Jones isn't my favorite but I love food so I chuckle at the corny *** food references. I'd be down for some new voices in another season or two

I really wish we could multi quote on this board, but why don't you go back up and read @Mr. S£im Citrus 's post again. Racism isn't an all or nothing thing. Also racist doesn't mean your grossed out by someone and you don't want to be near them (I mean it, can, but that's not what we're talking about) When someone whether directly or subtly, implies that a certain segment of humans are less than another, that's racism and/or bigotry.

People have said the same thing about Donald Sterling. How was he racist when he had a black mistress?

If you don't think that Donald Sterling didn't think he was superior to the players he hired and that woman he was banging, I got some beanie babies to sell you.

That's what this is all about, man.

I don't know if you were aware of this, but you don't have to respect Black people in order to make money off of Black people, so I don't know why you would accept somebody making "a career being around African American basketball players" as proof of not being a racist?

Believable? Sure. I've learned, in the last decade or so, that you can find people who'll believe anything. But, for the sake of discussion, I'll even stipulate that it's plausible. Much more believable? I'm not buying that, but it's probably not a suitable conversation to have, here.

I'm not sure if I trust somebody who appears to be starting from the premise of "There's no way that Grant Napear is racist," and working backwards from there, to accept anything short of videographic evidence of overt, direct involvement with the Ku Klux Klan, as proof of racism.

Still haven't been given any evidence of videos, credible sources, etc. that he a racist (and, no, the stupid banter with DMC doesn't prove anything). It's pretty reckless to accuse somebody of being a racist without proof. Now if you want to say he's a jerk we can come up with countless examples of that.....

Are you seeing ghosts? No one has accused Grant of anything about racism in today's posts from what I can tell?

Edit, nvm, they were probably modded out

You wanted proof? There was your proof. You may not think that that "counts" as racism but lots of people do.

(And also "You can't fire him because he's just a grade A butthead and not a great person, not a racist!" is a thin one as far as wrongful dismissals go)

Also not sure why we're relitigating the Grant Napear situation when (a) it's been a year since he got canned, (b) the Kings are very much enjoying having Mark Jones announcing their games, (c) I have a better chance of winning the next election in Belarus than Grant does at ever stepping foot in a Kings facility ever again.

Pro tip: If you hit reply on the first post, then scroll up from the response box to the next post and hit reply again, both posts will appear quoted in the response box. They won't be "nested", but both replies will be included. To nest, place a few "returns" after either the "on-quote" or the "off-quote" indicator of the outer quote, and place the entire inner quote, including both "on-quote" and "off-quote" into text inside the outer quote. I think it looks a bit more sensible if you put the inner quote at the end, because the poster-post association gets broken if you put the inner quote at the top.

Khtk has gone way down hill since. Wish they lost the Kings broadcast. How many shows has Jason Ross been on that have been killed?
Man, I hear Cowherd on my short drive home and it’s terrible. Dude’s entire show is 50% advertisements during on-air segments. Did you know he really likes the business basketball hybrid shoe by Wolf & Shepherd? Steve Nash helped design it too. Rly perfect for all business dinners but wears like a sneaker!

What I put in bold and underlined is why I do not care for Grant. He would not blame the Maloof's during the Anaheim threat and instead put the blame on the city's politicians and said there is nothing we as a community can do about this. Then when Seattle entered the picture Grant changed his tune. He tried to go from being a heel to a baby face (that's for my wrestling buddies) and it was so obvious as to why he did that.

To think there are fans out there who gave praise to Grant for helping to save the Kings and his catchphrase of rolling our sleeves to our freckin' necks. That's laughable. Grant had zero to do with keeping the Kings in Sacramento and getting the deal done to build the Golden 1 Center.

Grant should have known better on his tweet too as the Kings are strong supporters and allies of the message behind black lives matter along with other social justice issues. It was going on for months and he tweeted what he tweeted. That's why he had to resign from his play-by-play TV announcing job.

It’s REALLY hard to listen to sports talk radio in the age of on demand podcasts.
