Actually, they'd be WAAAAAAAY over the apron after such a sign-and-trade, so the S&T wouldn't even be allowed. This dude either straight made that rumor up, or was given some really really bad info.
I think it is latter because Porzingis also has not so a good relationship with that news site where that guy is working.

And he is pretty well known here so I don't think he would like to get his credibility questioned by making a straight-up rumor up.

Seems there’s a high probability Miami will trade Tyler Herro. Probably should have went with last offseason with his value surging.
They deviated from their plan of setting up for a big trade/signing and might have paid the price. Like it was said before, you can't blame them though. That false heartbeat of being a true contender in the bubble run messed up their vision. They still have space but yeah, they probably lost some real value trade wise.

I guess the new normal in the NBA head coaching hiring process is hire former players that haven't retired long ago with either zero or minimal coaching experience
Worked out well enough for Steve Nash (of course he had 2.5 superstars and like three super qualified assistants).

Trading Herro indicates that they're in win-now mode but I almost have to wonder if they're not better off waiting things out a couple of years and doing a soft rebuild around Bam. Sucks for J-Butts but their showing against the Bucks in the first round didn't really look like the of a team one piece away from contending again

Hall of Famer
Well he was like an inch or 2 away from the ECF with basically only KD left. In fact most of the season he didn’t have all 3 of his big 3. I understand your overall point though.
a hall of famer or two can make just about any coach look competent, same size too small. therefore, further judgment will be put on reserve.

So I was in Boston when that all went down and only vaguely remember the incident. It didn't follow Billups at all so I'm really not sure why Dame who knows him as a person/friend/role model until this all blew up a few weeks ago. I stand by what I've been saying for weeks that:
a) it's a lousy hire for basketball reasons
b) Portland really put themselves in a pickle that I think is unique to Portland and perhaps a few other markets. I don't think the Kidd hire is getting the backlash that Kidd received when Portland fans made it clear neither was acceptable due to their past allegations
c) I feel bad for Dame
d) If the city wants to turn on him I hope they are ready to be the next Kings.

It seems like #BlazersTwitter is mad that Lillard didn't do more due diligence in researching their coaching applicants as Portland's front office did?
It's totally understandable that all these people expected an 8 year old lillard to read about what happened on the other side of the country in the news and remember it decades later when someone asks him about which coaching candidate he prefers from a list that the team already had in mind. I just love how social media gives everyone and their unwanted judgemental opinions a platform for the nation to see.

I'm still on the fence about whether an allegation nearly 25 years ago that ensnared multiple members of the team and involved no criminal proceedings combined with the fact the player in question has had no further history of accusations to my knowledge is 100% disqualifying.

I also think that for a team in an apparent win-now mode (though I see no path to that) how Billups is the guy that gets them over and I am shocked that none of the questions about the hire seem to pertain to that.

This is why we're keeping Luke, we're gonna get our pick of all the top coaches in the league mid-season while every other team has stocked up on ex-players getting their first chance.

Being real though, this is why Hammond should not take any job before Pop retires because it's clear it's a goddamned boys club and at least she's sorta in San Antonios.

This is what’s wrong (in my opinion) with the influence social media has. It all depends on who’s louder or who the regular media picks up on. First I read the owner wants to be a “trail blazer” by hiring the nba’s first female coach and now, an old unproven rape allegation, that was settled out of court is the reason why Becky Hammond should be hired over billups in the eyes of Portland social media. Not the fact she is from the pop coaching tree, not that she’s very qualified, or even if she interviewed great. Just say she is more qualified than billups and that should be reason enough. It just feels that they’re pushing a political narrative and not basketball reasons. I mean I’d hate to speak I’ll of the dead but Kobe Bryant was accused of the same things and where were these allegations when he had job opportunities?
