Did anybody expect otherwise? I've kind of figured barring a Godfather offer Holmes isn't really on the table.
Well I wasn't sure, would depend on what Monte thought he wanted to pay, what he wanted to do with the cap etc. One thing I hope is if we keep him, we are willing to pay a reasonable amount in the off season rather than let him go for nothing.

We can't go much above the MLE for him. Basically, unless we get ourselves under the cap, we can't offer more than the better of MLE/175% of his current contract...those two are really close to each other, I haven't bothered to determine which is larger. Basically, if his value around the league is in the $10M range, we can keep him. If it's $15M, and anybody has cap space to sign him, he's gone.

Doesn't this kind of point to get value while you can then?

Yeah that's the question, hopefully McNair plays his cards right.
Yeah, and the question is does he know the cards he's holding? If this team were a lock for they playoffs and didn't have the momentous fall off they had after the win streak the answer is obvious but my goodness, this whole situation gets iffier by the day!

I'm not sure a ton of teams are going to have $15M of cap space. So you combine that with "do they want Holmes" and "is Holmes worth $15M" and it's not necessarily a bad call to hold on to him. I suspect he'd be more likely to re-sign with us if we DON'T trade him, so...

Especially after his words as “one of the best two way centers in the league.”

Gonna be looking for his bag this offseason.
And other teams are going go to have to see the value in him for the things Walton hardly even uses him for. He can switch. They don't let him nearly enough. And they also have to split that pnr action between him and Bagley way too often. He can be the next Montrez for a team that understands what they're looking at.

I think there is going to be a few teams looking to sell big by the deadline, and I think back to Bogdan. I remember saying it last season, Vlade better get something for Bogdan now because when a player is looking at greener pastures, he will find them. Now, I do think Holmes hasn't been jerked around like Bogdan so there probably isn't the same bad blood but a concern nonetheless. Then Monte relies on sign and trades. Been there done that! haha.
