Troy can be that 3 and D sparkplug off the bench. Seems absolutely perfect for it. Yet another piece falls into our lap!
That's the thing, when a team is playing the right way, playing together, playing with an identity etc. All of a sudden a guy like Troy Williams can come in and instantly knows his role. Play defense, run like a maniac, hit the occasional spot shot.

Not according to the Orlando announcers!!

Announcer A: "Troy Williams has been the X factor tonight."

Announcer B: "I don't think there's any question."
The 3 Williams hit late in the game to put the Kings back up 5 was arguably the biggest shot of the entire contest.

The first 3 Williams took he looked nervous or rushed, but once he started running around he fit right in. Glad to have Troy Williams here, and glad they had the sense to play him tn, with no Shumpert and Bogdan his contributions were key.

Agreed. Absolutely huge.

There was a few comments about Williams old teams in the game thread lemme just refresh the timeline for those unaware. Knicks fans were shocked when he was waived too, he played well for them during SL.

NY waived Williams mid-july. Had he been on their roster August 1st, 100k of his contract would've been guaranteed. had he been on their opening night roster, another 100k of his contract would've been guaranteed, and then much of the rest of it would've been guaranteed in
January... now he's with us on a two-way..

So they could've kept him but they had to cut down the roster to 15 as well, AND Troy plays the same position as their shiny new top-10 pick Kevin Knox.

Good for us though :D. Vlade had some patience and it's paying early dividends, it's safe to say if Williams was on our SL team he'd have a bunch more fans here already.

Troy Williams hasn't stuck in the NBA so far for a few reasons: his lack of a reliable outside shot (though he showed signs of improvement with the Knicks), his penchant for playing out of control/making mistakes, and his inconsistency.

Those are still concerns, but with the Kings he's at least being put in a good position to succeed. Williams is at his best in a fast paced open offense where he can run the floor and be opportunistic on that end of the floor. And like most of the young Kings he's very active on defense and while he'll make mistakes, he'll make them at full speed. If he can start knocking down his outside shots he has a chance to log a lot of minutes at the SF spot.

Yep, all of this is 100% correct. Williams always had the great profile (good size, length, great athleticism, active on defense, can rebound, can hit the 3), but he's always been a guy who hasn't shown up on a game to game basis. Lets hope tonight helps unlock his potential he's always had.

And again, if he just provides defense he is already equal to Justin Jackson at worst. Goodness, what is Jackson's FG%, 5% or something??

i know Giles was supposed to be our Draymond, but hopefully Troy can fill the role.
The defense of Fox, Troy and Yogi would be intense.
We're 8 games into the season. I don't think we have to lock anyone into any role quite yet. I'll bet anything this roster is not going to be the same by the end of the year. Remember, no matter how good it was with JWill and company, it wasn't until we got Bibby that things really took off. Troy has potential. Let's see where it takes him ... and the Kings ... before anointing him "our Draymond."

my only question. Justin Jackson 20 min, 0 points, 0 rebounds, why is he not in Stockton.
Happy for Troy, hope he sticks.
Be fair. JJ had some good performances in a few of these wins. And this is one good game for Troy Williams. We need to see a lot more before we can believe he's any less streaky than JJ at this point.

BTW, you cherry pick the 0 points and 0 rebounds while ignoring the nice assists JJ made. Those points were important too.

Guy might have questionable IQ but he will literally die for you on the court and you can argue he's the most explosive athlete on this team him and Shumpert @SF is insane effort. Guy is a keeper I was shocked when Memphis under Joerger cut him after he played really well for them a few seasons back.

Some folks that are on the fringes take time to find a spot that they can stick.
There are only so many roster spots open on every team and with each team getting their new shiny penny or two in the draft or being loaded at certain positions it is hard for some players to stick.

I am not sure of all of the reasons for him not being around on other teams but we definitely have a need at his position.
The coach played him a ton last night and he had a pretty decent game and he is getting his points and doing his defense thing after just a few games in our system is impressing the heck out of me.

It may not last but I know one thing he is sure acting like he wants to be here.

Oh, come on. JJ has stunk it up on the stat sheet this year. But Joerger sees something in him and continues to give him opportunities. Maybe he'll be rewarded for his patience. Or maybe JJ brings intangibles that the coaches see but aren't clear to stat sheet scanners. But 20 min with no points and no rebounds is about all my patience can handle. Stockton is calling.
