Michael Porter Jr

Question for others to ponder.....because that's what I'm waiting for..... What if Porter comes in for a workout with a few others and blows the staff away? And the Kings medical staff says his back is not going to be a problem.

I personally will take Doncic or Ayton but what if Porter kills his workout? That is what I'm waiting to see. Would love to see him with a few other potential top picks work out together.
Still too risky for me if you're talking about taking him at 2.

Just not enough college tape on him. Someone said earlier that there's a lot of 5 star high school recruits that don't excel in college. Look at Hamidou Diallo. He was highly touted out of high school and now probably won't even be drafted in the first round. His value still lies in his high school achievements because he was not very good at Kentucky. If he would have gotten hurt and played just a couple games, he might be going much higher with all the hype around him. He wasn't as highly touted as Porter but the reasoning is still the same.

If he blew them away during workouts and they wanted to trade back and get him, that might work but they would have to get something in return like a lottery pick next year or a starter that fills a need for us.

For me, it depends on what you have in Giles. The Kings know more about Giles than we do because they've seen so much of him. If Giles is right now their best player as some have said, then it makes it a little more palatable to swing for the fences and take a scorer in MPJ over Doncic. Possibly trade back and take MPJ. But if they're unsure about Giles, then the Kings should avoid the bust possibility and take Doncic.

The bust risk in MPJ as I see it is in his handles as well as his back

But did Steph Curry have glass ankles issues coming out of college? I just looked back and he missed a single game in his entire college career. I don't remember hearing anything about it at the time, and it wasn't until his third year in the NBA that he missed any significant time. Are you sure the glass ankles didn't develop later?
During his NBA career. Not collage. Reke had plantar fascia, ankles and knee issues in his NBA career.

I am simply talking about how injuries were not necessarily to blame for his lack of development since the 20-5-5

Yeah I lost the thread of the conversation, I thought you were comparing Curry's draft status to Porter's draft status re: injury.

given my understanding of English (as a non native speaker) i would translate "best" as "one and exactely one maxiumum element" in which case the lemma does not apply as it is too broad?

or is "best" different from lets say GOAT in the sense that it can be shared (whereas I'm pretty sure a concept such as GOAT cannot be shared).

I'm a Mizzou guy so can't claim to be unbiased here, but other than THE back injury he incurred in his sophomore year of HS and finally got treated for in his freshman year of college, what are these chronic problems so many keep aluding to? He played through pain for several years and we saw the results. Is he our guy? Depends on the workouts and results of the due diligence we conduct with his medical status.

As an aside, I've seen him up close a few times -- most recently a couple weeks ago when he passed in front of me as my group was playing on the street --and the dude is SKINNY. LOL. He's also a good kid, a bit entitled with his professors from living on a pedestal all these years, but relatively well grounded. Comes from a very nice family, is a vegetarian, and has been prepped for this opportunity since toddlerhood. If the performance is there, he would be a good locker room guy and highly coachable. I trust the Kings know how important is is, and if they determine he's the guy then I'll be fully supportive.

Dang it, you're right! And I thought that was my first step towards proving the Riemann Hypothesis.

I went back to re-watching some more Michael Porter film. Now high-school is completely different to the NBA but the kid could be an alpha dog on his team. The length, athleticism, shooting, ability to create his own shot, skill in the post and the perimeter.....I like!

I can understand why the Kings are reportedly keen and why he has been the first high profile draftee that the Kings met with. He could really fit this young team very well for years to come. Kid can play! If the back checks out, it would be a toss up for me in terms of who I would want more between Bagley and Porter.

Really hope we hear some news about his workout and health status. This is the guy that on paper has the biggest upside imo. In a perfect world he blows minds with his workout and checks out medically and he's the pick at two.

He also wants us to trade Skal already. He doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.
I don't agree that the goal of the draft is to find the guy who makes the instant impact in lieu of looking for the most long term potential.

That said, there IS some validity in wondering if the Kings should trade Labissiere. I'm not in favor of it right now, but we just saw with Ben McLemore that trotting a kid out there year after year only to realize that he isn't getting to be the player you hoped and then letting him walk for nothing is a bad strategy.

If the coaching staff and front office still believe in Skal then you ride with him. But if they don't think he's going to turn the corner then you should try to get something for him while you can.

I was a big fan of Ben when he first came here, but after two years I was willing to let him go. I think Skal is a nice kid, but I would trade him and not feel guilty about it at all. I really don't think he's that good of a player. Soft, doesn't rebound, gets pushed around on defense easily, and not a great passer. He can shoot a little bit but that's about it.

If it meant our team was going to get better, Skal would certainly not stand in the way of that if I were the GM.

He doesn't hold any value. The only thing you could trade Skal for would be for some other team's Skal or some Tolliver type player that gives you marginal production for a couple years for twice the money while potentially taking minutes away from other guys that need development.

He's in the same situation Ben was. Ben could have been traded for something early on while he had value but that value dropped over time to the point of zero. Skal isn't quite at zero at this point but he's not valuable enough to get you what you want. He still has promise so his real value lies in his development with the Kings, not on the trade market.

I don't know how much value he has or not, but he just isn't confident out there. He's had some decent games, but so did Ben. I just think if we needed some fodder to balance out a trade and his contract for the bill, then I would do it. Nothing personal against him as I do like him, but he really isn't all that.

I think we get too attached to players as a fanbase and we have a difficult time seeing players for what they are, myself included. Trade him while he's still young enough to improve and have some other team gamble on that.

Bagley and Porter are the two players at the top of the draft who terrify me the most. I understand why people feel like we need to come out of this draft with a superstar and going after a proven scorer seems, in one context, like the best way to get there. I'm worried though with these guys in particular because if they're not All-NBA level scorers what are you even getting? At least with Ayton you know he's going to demand double teams. With Doncic you know he's going to be able to run an offense. With Mikal Bridges you know he can shoot and play passable defense on the perimeter. And Jackson and Bamba both seem like very intelligent and committed defenders. I'm wary of guys who want their shots and who frequently look like they're coasting on defense. I don't know that that will be true of Bagley and Porter but I don't have really any example of either one of them showing that they know how to play defense and that never sits well with me.
