Possible length of suspension for DC? (split)

#1
Let's count.

2 shooting guards signed, three if you count Barnes (afflalo, Temple, Barnes)

1 small forward (Barnes)

1 stretch 4 / small forward (Tolliver)

0 point guards.

Only 1 point guard on roster who may be suspended for an extended time.

Almost no cap space left, since we had to rescind curry qualifying to sign Barnes.

This all adds up to a trade of Ben mcclemore and either Rudy Gay or KK for a starting point guard.

Point guards on the market? Rubio, Bledsoe, Brandon knight, MCW.

My best guess is Brandon knight for gay or KK and bmac.

I keep seeing people say Collison will be suspected for a "extended time" and that, but what's the longest time any NBA player has ever been suspended for a domestic violence or misdemeanor charge? I'm asking...

Did a little digging, found this link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_banned_or_suspended_by_the_NBA

Closest thing I could find is Ron Artest being suspended for 7 games for "misdemeanor domestic violence charge against his wife in May" 2007... but that's Ron Artest and all his baggage.

Jeff Taylor got a 24 game suspension.

Depending on the details I would view that as the possible maximum for DC.

Didn't Jeff Taylor get suspended for 25 games. Not sure if his charges were more serious.

We've had two threads about DC and both have had to be closed. I'm splitting this out from the Matt Barnes threads and reminding people that discussion of possible impact on the team is fine. Discussion of your own thoughts on his guilt or innocence or on domestic violence, false accusations, etc. is not acceptable. Thanks.

To be fair, Jeff Taylor did more than just beat his wife in that case.
Agreed. It's why I think it's odd that some Kings fans are talking about a possible 25 game suspension when the facts of the case haven't come out.

I think Divac & Joerger probably have a good idea of what occurred and they certainly aren't acting like they are going to lose their starting PG (at lest as it stands now) for nearly a third of the season.

I think the suspension length will be determined by the political climate around the time the decision is made. I cannot imagine anything less than 5 games given the way the NFL has been blasted for handling their cases. The NBA won't lose face for suspending someone for too long but they will if the suspension is too short. However, I cannot imagine that he gets the Jeff Taylor penalty. Therefore, I hope I am wrong but I expect between 5-12 games. I hope I am wrong and he gets zero but the NBA is going to make an example of him.

I think we're going to have to wait and see what happens in the legal system before guessing what the NBA will hand down. I think that they typically wait until the legal process has finished, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the penalty be commensurate with the legal outcome. It's just way too early to even guess.

Would you think a punishment will be handed down before the season begins? Or after there is a verdict or plea?

I would guess the league would wait for a verdict/plea to hand down any suspension, but we still might get legal resolution during the offseason. It would be a bit weird for Collison to be playing while the legal process is going on, but then again the Morris twins are still playing through what I think are still unresolved assault charges and that's been more than a year.

The league pretty has to wait until there is a guilty plea or conviction before they do anything. This is one of the downsides for an athlete charged with serious misdemeanors or felonies, there is a strong inherent pressure to plead guilty guilty to avoid a long trial process that can easily result in them being sidelined during the trial and then possibly suspended again if found guilty; the incentive is to cop a plea push for suspended sentence so that they can serve out the suspension and move on. I expect the DC will probably follow this pattern.
