Kings seriously pursuing Pau Gasol (multiple sources)

Doesn't make sense, Pau is one of the only bigs in the world that is probably more skilled than Cousins. A guy you need to feed and run an offense through on a team with Rondo, Gay, Cousins? On this team he would essentially be Jason Smith, just standing out there shooting 18 footers. If you want Pau, you certainly need to trade Rudy. Also Cousins and Pau will get killed on pick and rolls. Honestly this trade only makes sense if you are trading Cousins also. Cousins and Pau don't fit together.

Gasol is already 35 years old...uhhh
How old was vlade when we picked him up?I know he wasn't 35 yet but over 30. Maybe vlade trying to recreate some old kings magic circa 1999. Add a euro big to an Allstar pf/c in his prime and take the NBA by storm. I know pau is older but the way he plays can be sustained at his age. Jump shooting and passing big man not totally reliant on his athleticism.

We are 9 games below .500 with 29 games to go. We would have to go 19 and 10 just to get back to .500..... I mean, come on.
Yep, if the team hadn't flushed the season down the toilet over the last ten games, maybe your going into Fridays game right at the 8th seed or 1 or 2 games back this makes more sense. Essentially everything has to go right in the last 29 games for this team to even have a chance at the 8th seed. Also the only hope I see is one of Memphis or Dallas falling out completely.

Too much? We already owe them two pick swaps and potentially an unprotected pick in a few years. Our future is already screwed.
The pick swaps never were relevant. And in a situation like this I am wondering what Philly could legitimately want as Pau's addition would seem likely to push us up above 10, let alone 8, 5 or whatever, and they would certainly mean we finish with more wins than Philly.

Vlade Divac and Chris Webber wave hi.

Because that has to be exactly what Vlade is thinking. Put together the league's most skilled frontcourt and watch what happens.

Wonder if he can convince Pau to take up smoking? Preferably on court/

You do realize we picked up Vlade through FA, right? Which meant we held his rights for several years, something we can't control with Gasol? I mean...this would just be a terrible trade overall for us. We are so power hungry for the playoffs when we are already out of it.

If Vlade can get Gasol to resign it's a great trade. Pau is 35 yes but his game will age like Duncan he will still be a good player at 38. And people need stop acting like Ben will be some breakout player he is what he is.

The 76ers do NOT want the Bulls to get our pick, that's the problem. If it pushes to next year, that only improves their chances of getting our pick unprotected in 2019. And yes, the pick swap is very relevant, especially if we finish in the top 7-8 worst records and have a decent chance at a top 3 pick. There's a chance that Philly could fall to 5th in the draft if the Lakers and Nets continue to fall.

You confuse making the playoffs with .500 ball. At present we are only a handful of games out of the 8th seed in an in consistent West... More than doable.
I guarantee you that the 8th seed will be at least a game or two from .500, or above it. We can't be 4 or 5 games out of a .500 record and expect to make the playoffs.

I'm assuming to complete the trade vlade has to have some assurance he would at least pick up his player option. Hoping 1 & 1/2 seasons here can win him over. I agree that renting pau for 30 games is short sighted and not a good move but if ben wants out, you can do much worse than gasol/snell for ben/kk.

Vlade has turned "pick swap fairy dust" into an asset that the 76ers will give something for.

What a con man. Glad we have him.

I love Vlade and I love the Kings. Swing for the fences.

I am really shocked how much love there is for very average role players in KK & BMac. People rag on those guys hard - all the time - all year long. Just look at the game threads and grades threads.

Yet... the thought of putting them on Red and spinning the wheel makes people freak out. I truly don't get that.

Vlade is THE MAN in my book if he does this Pau deal (and runs GK out of town by firing his assistants till he agrees to a reasonable payoff)

I'm not worried about trading Snell/Gasol for Ben/KK. I'm worried about mortgaging more of our future just in an attempt to look competitive. Trade those players, or trade Gay. Hell, trade anyone other than Cousins or WCS (our future) but do NOT throw more of our future under the bus.

You must be confused. The 76ers have the asset of the pick swap. They want more from the Kings or Bulls to complete the trade (reportedly). They will not "give something", they will GET something.

Vlade and Webber played in a different era, one where every NBA team played with two 6'10 or higher bruisers and point guards didn't attack you on pick and rolls. Chicago has already gone through this trying to play Noah and Gasol together, and Noah is a much better/engaged defender than Cousins. Thankfully we have WCS and Acy who would be much better being paired with one of Pau/Cuz. I'm not saying there aren't positives to the pairing, but there are certainly plenty of drawbacks. Also how does that trade address the SG position?

I don't really see what Vlade has to lose at this point. The Bulls already have the pick from the Petrie deal a few years ago. Certainly you don't give Hinkie a pick but perhaps cash or other considerations would be enough. Perhaps they need a young guard with a famous last name to sell a few tickets and jerseys?

I'm with Brick that Gasol teamed with Cousins and Willie is a pretty nice group of Bigs. Tony Snell just has to defend the 2 and move the ball.

I'm not confused. I have thought all along that the pick swap is a phantom. Very low odds, exceedingly low odds, that the pick swap ever happens. If it does happen, we probably are trading #1 for #3 as a worst case scenario.

I know you think the Sixers can finish 5th from the bottom and the Kings can catch the ping pong ball miracle, and we will all gnash our teeth. I don't.

To me the pick swap is bogus, phantom, fairy-dust, magic beans, the stuff of suckers.

Also why would Pau sign here? This franchise is a mess and can only attract reclamation projects like Rondo or over pay for guys like Bellinelli or Koufos. Pau signed with the Bulls to go for a title, he is 36 years old, he is not going to end his career chasing the 8th seed for a dumpster fire organization.
