Kings to fire Karl in coming days

I suspect that the very fact that Karl was NOT fired after the disaster in Brooklyn is precisely BECAUSE Vlade is working to line up a coach he sees as "the right guy" (Tibbs please). If there were no options or interest I would assume he would pull the plug and let an interim coach take over. So there may be a silver lining to the entire debacle of the past few days that looks very much like feed the old dog steak and treats, and sleep in it's favorite spot before you take them on their last car ride.
This is the exact thought I was having. I just hope it is NOT Scott Brooks. The guy is not good and if Vlade hires him because he is from Manteca and had connections to an elite team and did nothing to make them better I will be disgusted. I know fans don't like him but I would be in favor of a Mark Jackson hire as long as we get a serious Xs and Os man next to him like Mike Malone was.

Vivek is familiar with him in his days with Golden State and one thing about Mark Jackson is his guys play hard for him. Jackson is passionate guy and we could use some passion after comatose Karl. After Jackson was canned there was some stories about him being domineering and alienating a lot of front office types so we would need to properly vet that situation.

Could we land Thibs? If Vivek opens up his pocketbook, and make him an unbelievable offer? Heck yeah why not?!?!? Thibs is itching to get back in the NBA and after hearing him on the Bill Simmons pod I could tell he had some specific ideas of how he would coach the Kings, specifically Willie, Rondo and Boogie.

This tweet by Grant gives credence to the speculation that we could have a new permanent head coach rather than an interim one.

You'll know the truth very soon! It's not my place to be the messenger on certain things! Hope you can respect that!

@GrantNapearshow Why Grant? Stop being cryptic. Give Kings fans a real take or the truth. You're just going around acting wholly right now

Playing to players strengths, keeping DC at the point (let Seth show what he can do at the back up 2) or just make it strictly Marco and Ben at that spot. Slow this unnecessary pace down. And fix or flawed defensive system because obviously the players aren't getting with the program

-1 in 4 out. We have enough shooters to play that if we do decide that we have to go small. Will only work with DC/Seth at the point and boogie in the post

- Mandatory shootarounds, and more focus on defense in practice instead of running and transition buckets

- more structured plays, didn't Karl say that we have to come up with more plays without boogie? That's awful.

MOD NOTE: The inevitable subject of Cousins not being a winner subtext of this thread has been split into its own thread.

I'm happy he's getting the boot, but you can't "plan" to fire someone... not publicly at least. It's just a really bizarre scenario.

He is now certain he's going to be shown the door, but he has to "coach" the team during the Philly game? Just too weird.

Totally agree. But then what about this year hasn't been weird?

I wonder if he'll continue coaching. His resume speaks for itself. I hope he gets another gig. One of the best coaches in NBA history.

There's a reason he lobbied so hard for the Kings job. He didn't get any other offers. As good as he was once, he is no longer that George Karl.
No he got thrown a large sum of guaranteed money

He's a very hot commodity. Kind of ridiculous you just said that even though only a year and a half earlier he lead Denver to 57 wins without a clear star player, and won coach of the year.

He's one of the greats.

He's one of the greats.
And then immediately got sacked after winning the award. Ever wondered why that was the case?

Of course his media PR spin always makes the other party into bad guys!

I would love to be wrong about this being Karl's last gig just so I could be proven right that he is done.

An absolutely respected all time great coach. I hope he chooses to continue coaching. Maybe New York, or Milwaukee?

Well, he is a very hot commodity so I'm sure everyone will be beating down his door. They won't worry at all about his reputation, health or the fact that he's basically sat on the sideline taking a dump on his legacy this season.

He's a likely HOF coach that has demonstrated it's time to hang them up.
