Kings trade JT, Nik and Landry to Sixers (renamed)

They are journeymen who proved they could play in the league. Right now, our big rotation includes

Cousins (one if the leagues best)
Wcs (an unproven rookie)
Moreland (an undrafted guy)

Unless we fill it with other pieces or wcs and Moreland play way above expectations, yes that is worse than last year.
have some faith. WCS is not just an average rookie. He will be playing to his strengths. Not expected to carry an offensive load and do what he does best. Defend and provide rim protection. He is more then serviceable and we can pick up a rotation big on the cheap

Props to Vlade for making a bold move! It will be interesting to see how this works out for us. I am reminded of the Greek Myth of Phaeton who died trying to drive his fathers sun chariot. The epitaph on his tomb read:
Here Phaethon lies who in the sun-god's chariot fared.
And though greatly he failed, more greatly he dared.

I think as Kings fans it's our nature to worry & assume the worst, but then again why wouldn't we? I'm not sure if there has been a fan base that's been tortured mercilessly quite as much as Sacramento has. But some of you need to take a step back & look at yourselves...you're talking Wes Matthews down. The same guy people in this forum have thirsted over all season long & now that it's a possibility we find a way to make sour grapes. If you don't believe in Vlade & believe he has the smarts & dedication to turn this team around then you simply shouldn't be a fan because it's more stress then it's worth. Let's all just have faith in Vlade & wait and see what happens before we all croak due to unnecessary worrisome.

Hate this move. Who starts at PF now? WCS? Never good to have to count on a rookie, especially a rookie big. And who backs him up?

Not to mention giving up on Sauce.

All with no guarantee that they even sign more talented players with the added caproom. Last time it was letting Tyreke go only to flirt with Iggy and ultimately add Landry.

And with rumblings of continued dysfunction. Sometimes I wonder why I follow this team.

If this free agency is a disaster and the Boogie/Karl issue(s) aren't resolved I'm not sure I have the stomach for another hopeless season.
Well this is depressing.

Aileen would pass based on a medical journal. Much more credible than an actual doctor who would be examining the actual individual in question….
Yes, everyone is different, but the statistics are the statistics and it's a HUGE risk until he actually recovers, steps on the court and shows you what he has left. No doctor is going to say Wes is going to be the same. It's not a broken bone that heals itself. It's a huge tendon that has low blood flow to it and has to be tied back together. He has to learn to walk again. This is a major injury.

I watched the Gudaitis video on draftexpress.....looked interesting, strong, athletic, could see him on the roster if nothing else materializes. Will be interesting to see what Vlade has to say about the 2 Euros he picked up.

Looking forward to some FA signings.

He's still a rookie and he's now our second best big. Check out the last few drafts to see how well top 10 bigs have faired early in their careers.

We're coming off 2 consecutive drafts where we placed too much burden on our picks only to have it blow up in our faces. Are we really going for 3 straight?

That being said, if we can use some of the cap space to pick up another good big (not a hollins type) we could be ok, but that's a big if.

And Rudy playing more at the 4 isn't really a solution. We didn't look good when we did it last year, we don't have a really good 3 to make it worthwhile and to me it robs gay of most of his advantages.

Even if this is a massive whif & we have to rebuild you have to applaud Vlade as a rookie handling GM duties for such a ballsy move. Personally, I'd rather try to swing for the fences then remain stagnant like we had with late tenture GP or the disaster that was PDA
Once again we act like its black and white. The third option is to actually try and focus on complimentary pieces to our core players which don't require blowing things up.

If we come away with day rondo/Ellis for 26+M is that even better than IT/Evans for less than 20? What is the point of blowing things up if there isn't a plan.

The real possibility that we get nobody is like a grey cloud over my head. I'm sure Wes is going to use us to up his price for someone he wants to play for.., just a sad gut feeling. We'll panic and overpay for Rondo, in the process only bidding against ourselves... A few more pieces from the scrap heap at twice market value and you've got yourself a raging dumpster fire burning far brighter than ever before.

I wish I had an iota of optimism in me.. I just don't see it working out based on how things are and have been going for this team :(

I will say a swing and a miss is better than no swing at all. Or as a Great One says "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Silver linings, I guess. ..
I hope I wake up to good news...

The jobs half done. Vlade needs to spend the money now to give us options. We still have Reggie Evans do we not ? he has started previously in his career and has a motor

isn't it like 1,000 degrees in Sacramento during the summer? sucks that we have fly free agents into that.
Yes, it's much hotter than Dallas and San Antonio.

I mean, cripes, Portland is a pretty miserable 95 right now. The women's world cup games in Canada are in the high 80s with field temperatures that are miserable, so I doubt the midwest teams are at any advantage, and the Atlantic is always muggy and terrible despite lower temperatures in July and August. I don't think anyone will care about Sacramento's weather.

San Antonio and Dallas weather forecast is mid 90's with 93% humidity. I'll take 100 deg. and 35% humidity any and all day.

With the Suns signing Chandler for 52million and Knight for whatever he got how does that impact them? Will they need to dump the Morris twins or Bledsoe to be able to keep them all/the pieces they want (e.g Chandler/Tyson/Bledsoe).

I think we have 26 mill. Because the cap is gonna be 2 mill. More than projected.
Yes, Kings will have $26 million of pure cap space, assuming expected spike of the cap to at least $68 million, and they can balloon that to more than $35 million using sign-and-trades.

Why would they? Now if they are going after Aldridge, sure. But as of right now they are fine financially and roster-wise.

Ok that's what I wanted to know. Assuming Chandler is healthy they just made it a lot harder for us to make the playoffs.

I don't understand why we do that trade, before we are sure, that we can sign an impactful FA.
We have no assets left for any trades. If we fail to sign FA, we are looking into another bad season.
I don't really care about JT or Carl, but Stauskas would be a player you would like to keep, if you are facing another lottery bound season.

If Kings can get their hands on Wilson Chandler, Rondo/Wes/Chandler/Gay/Cousins might work as a unit. Maybe.

I don't see, where Ellis fits. PG, since they are still going after Wes? Certainly they don't think, Wes/Rudy work as forwards defensively, right?

P.S. Apparently Raptors are trying to sell to Matthews, that Demar/Wes/Demarre can work as 2/3/4.

I think people are overreacting about the picks. My understanding of the reports is as follows. Philly has the right to swap with us in 2016 or 2017. We then owe then a future pick 2018 or 2019 that is top 10 protected. So-

2016- if we have pick 1-10, we get to keep our pick, but Philly can swap with us. If we get 11-30, the pick goes to Chicago.

2017- if we have pick 1-10, we get to keep out pick, but Philly can swap (provided they did not already swap in 2016). If we get 11-30, the pick goes to Chicago, unless Chicago got our pick in 2016, in which case we keep our pick.

2018- if we pick 1-10 we keep the pick. If 11-30, we give the pick to Philly UNLESS Chicago got our pick in 2017 (that would be prohibited back to back trades). If Chicago got our 2017 pick, we keep the 2018 pick, even if it is 11-30.

2019 and beyond- if we pick 1-10 we keep the pick. If 11-30, we give the pick to Philly until we have fulfilled the obligation.

We would have to be really unlucky (though don't underestimate our ability to be unlucky) to ever have the swap come into play. Philly is going to be terrible in 2015-2016, and will likely be a bad lottery team again in 2016-2017. With as bad as we were last year, we were still much better than Philly. Even if we can't use the cap space to sign free agents, we can use it in trades. We should be better than we were last season, and much better than Philly over the next two seasons, even if we just trot out Boogie-WCS-Gay-Ben-DC. The only way the swap comes into play is if we are both lottery teams and we manage to win the lottery with worse odds than Philly (say move up to the top 3 from the 10 position, while Philly falls down to 4 or 5). With as bad as our luck is in the lottery, it COULD happen, but the smart money is that the swap is NEVER capitalized on by Philly.

So the only real draft asset we give up is a future pick- 2018 at earliest. Even then, the pick is top 10 protected, so if we really suck, and this blows up on us, we at least keep our pick until we are somewhat decent. It does suck to have the same restrictions on trading future picks (like we have with Chicago right now), but that is a small price to pay if it means we can do something now.

So, we traded two bad contracts, a middling rookie, a first round swap that will most likely not come into play, and a protected first round draft pick in the 2018 draft (at earliest) for the right to be relevant (either in free agency or via trades) and build a team around Boogie this summer. I applaud the move by Vlade and am happy we are finally swinging for the fences rather than trying to build a 35 game winner.
