[Game] Game 35: Sacramento Kings vs. OKC Thunder, 1/7/14 7PM PST, 10PM EST

It feels good to win in a good way. While I would take a 116-115 win, I would feel dirty about it.

No worries today, though. They brought it on D, actually walked the ball up from time to time, leaked out when appropriate, and won in a laugher.

Hopefully the FO got the message.
Couldn't have said it better!

What a refreshing change of pace.
Kings were still really pushing off misses in transition. Outlet passes were getting the ball past half-court in under 4 seconds most possessions. We scored 104 points while shooting under 40% from the field. That's still a 5-6 possession increase in speed from the Malone days.

I can't figure this game out. The first time we played OKC, we were coming off big wins against a tough schedule. They had no superstars and very little offensive talent to speak of, and the Kings laid an egg.

Now, the Thunder have two top ten players in the lineup, a good defensive lineup in the starting five, and they lay an egg against a gut-punched Kings team. I have no explanation for either game.

I know, can't be explained. San Antonio lost at home to Detroit last night, then tonight in Chicago the Bulls got hammered by Utah 97-77 before Kings made their own nightcap headline bouncing OKC right out of the gym.

Conspiracy theorist here.

We laid an egg to help them out earlier in the year, they laid an egg to help us out.

Defense is AMAZING. Am I the only one who loves it more than offense? Good defense leads to easy baskets and easy points on offense.

The Kings set a great early defensive tone. JT was playing great D, followed by Ben on Westbrook, Cuz being dominant on D, Gay bothering KD, and Collison.

1st quarter's defense set the tone for the rest of the game. 75% of defense is effort and desire. Beautiful defensive communication between the entire team tonight.

Best defensive game by the Kings this season.
Can't help but think that your ratio there is very accurate. The other 25% would be knowledge of rotations, team defense, etc. But when a team takes pride in their defense the sky is the limit; stops are just as valuable as points are.

Each basketball game is a small sample size, which means that the outcome of each game has a measure of volatility. That's one reason why watching and playing basketball is exciting. Not only that, but the outcome of games is also affected by player psychological states; one clear example is how rookies shoot worse than they did before. Perhaps the Thunder did shoot poorly today, or maybe their psychological state as a collective unit wasn't fierce enough to face the Kings tonight -- I don't know exactly what happened to them tonight.

Let the spin begin...

Remember, we were 2-18 without DMC going back to last season with he who shall not be named. And DMCs not even 100% tonight. So, chill much?

her responses to me were maybe even worse than the original tweet:

@HereWeBoogie Stats are stats. A million games don't change those facts.

@lesliempr and the stats would show that the team has played terrible overall since Malone was fired

Leslie Moore ‏@lesliempr

@HereWeBoogie Disagree. They haven't been healthy. Kicking someone while their down isn't tops on my list.

@lesliempr i dont agree with blaming the entire teams bad play on one guy recovering from an illness.

and then of course you have this gem from her tonight

@JDJohnDickinson I was torn between watching our game and the Ws. That was the comeback of the century. Impressive, as usual. ;)

If we play this type of defense every night, pushing the ball is not an issue. The problem is when we play terrible defense and still try to run up and down. Good defense should lead to easy transition buckets. Funny we blow out the Thunder on the day we harken back to the Malone Kings. Was PDA in attendance? Damn Weasel.
i didn't catch the game. i thought maybe they cherry picked the thunder to death.

I attended last nights game and have to say it was awesome. I was expecting to see the Kings get rolled up but we got off to a hot start and never looked back. It must be said that Collison's speed helped keep Westbrook in check and that if we're looking for a leader of this team look no further than #7. Landry was on fire off the bench and no OKC big was interested in guarding him away from the basket. Overall I had a blast and couldn't help but laugh during the 4th when it was apparent that OKC couldn't keep up with our scoring.

Her impromptu love affair with the city and team is fading away. It burned hot and fast.

I'm thinking she's a little sensitive and maybe wasn't prepared to become essentially a public figure in this city. Or maybe the fans are at fault for giving her the impression that she mattered.

That's funny. Wasn't her original tweet kicking Malone while he was down. Saying he's only 2-18 without dmc but don't bring up the record now cuz the team wasn't healthy. Doesn't she know Malone coached this year without Rudy, collison or dmc at points due to "health"? Hypocrisy must be part of phase 2.

I must admit.

As one of the VERY few FO (Vivek and Co.) supporters who remained positive at the time that our head coach was fired, my optimism has been obliterated to pieces. At the end of the day, were still Kings fans and we support this team even during the bleakest of times. I expect a Kings win tonight over a very talented team. As a matter of fact, I'm anticipating a 10+ point win!
;)

They don't really effect the bottom line though. Omri might, but that step forward is 2 back with Sessions.
Maybe not, but he (Omri) will definitely leave his mark on a game that he plays in. You know what to expect from him, and I like that.

Can anybody elaborate on this? Any pics?
When I get home tonight I can replay the game and try to snap a screen shot or two. The guy next to him was really excited and gave him a high five, and Vivek wasnt smiling and had a serious look on his face. I know thats not very descriptive, but hopefully pictures help.

The general vibe across the team, fans, announcers was relief and satisfaction with a solid win. He just didnt appear very pleased.
