Game 25
Sacramento Kings versus Oklahoma City Thunder
By Stephen Tetsu, also in danger of being replaced by Chris Mullin

This was going to be a game to honor Peja as his jersey went into the rafters and a national game. Of course, the entire front office and the ownership group decided to do something really crazy to kick off the festivities.

Watch out kids, the circus has officially opened and the elephants haven't even started riding the unicycles yet.

Welp. At least all this madness gives me the opportunity to bust out my Kingsfans.com Emotional Reference video of all time.

Go Kings?

Somewhat lost in this is the fact that Ty Corbin is truly, truly, in a no-win situation. If he does what the FO wants, he's seen as a "yes man", or "lackey", and then he'll be replaced in the offseason by Mullin, because, hey, the system does work. If he doubles down and keeps our current style of play, he'll be replaced in the offseason, or sooner.

I'm curious to see how he "shakes things up", but I'd encourage us to keep this in the back of our minds when we do our usual in-game coaching complaints. I'm not saying "give him a pass", as I'll be right there with you, but know that his position is about as lame duck as it gets. It's worse than when a coach doesn't get a contract extension. PDA wouldn't even give the "we're 100% behind this guy and believe he can lead us to the promised land" quote. That's rough. Merry Christmas, Ty.

Definitely tough situation for him. If I were him I'd just coach to win according to what I believed was the best style, hope for wins and hope that those wins bolster my coaching resume for the next gig.

They'll fire him at halftime if he doesn't do what they want.

Losing games won't get him fired, but ignoring the front office and owner will. Malone won games, if you'll recall. Didn't matter.

Can't wait to be blown out tonight, see Perkins smiling all night long, and generally disgrace Peja's retirement ceremony with a performance that would make the 76ers proud. Last night I had hope George Karl would at least become coach, but that hope has become a distant dream. Vivek is an idiot, so as all idiots do, will not listen to anyone and will certainly hire Mullins. Another lost season, but this one is the worst of all. Corbin is coach for now, but he is under a microscope and will be gone no matter what.

What a disaster this has turned out to be. I have known nothing but dismal seasons for most of the time as a Kings fan and I missed the magic beginning in 1998 because I was too young and unaware. Just once I want to see something awesome built, and experience that "this is it moment, we have ARRIVED." Hardly any satisfaction as a fan. Tis the life of a King's fan I suppose.

I hope we CREAM the Thunder, even though it is unlikely. I wouldn't mind if Perkins gets injured actually, hate that guy.

Well, If they hire Chris Mullins to coach the team, a person with NO coaching experience and famed bad temper for players he deems not giving it their all, I will have to tune out until to dust settles

Reposting here:

Mark Jackson is calling the game for ESPN. Interesting due to his name being linked to the job, his history with Mike Malone and his recent firing due to having differences with Management rather than lack of success on the court.

There is that Major League us against the world thing going. But even that sabotaging fictional owner didn't fire the manager when they were successful.

There's no us anymore. Malone was the player's coach and leader. Now what? I hope I'm wrong.
That's the issue.

And then Cuz comes back, and apparently having demonstrated leadership for all of maybe 1 year now, well, its cool to just dump it on his back and no doubt he will simultaneously come back from his illness, learn a new system, rally his teammates, and lead them to glory. If they could somehow ignore all of this, just basically coach themselves and keep on playing like they were with Cuz, they could win some games. But actually accomplishing anything serious has probably been forcibly taken from them by management. People cry about what Philly is doing, but Philly was surefire lottery team even if they did try. This in some ways is more perverse.

Ill have the popcorn ready for when Mullins is brought out on the backs of the last 4 fired kings head coaches whilst wearing a crown, at halftime, and relieves Corbin as head coach so that he, Mullins, May coach what we have left of a team right into a pit of eternal despair.

I don't think I want to write anymore. This is a scary time for the franchise. I thought it was all for the good in November and now I feel like I hve stepped off a cliff and don't know when or if I'm going to hit bottom. I have plenty to do to keep me interested but having the Kings lunge downward like some poorly constructed carnival ride feels personal. Shouldn't, should it. :(

If the team has rallied around themselves, I think they'll show some fight. They've got to be feeling some serious "Us vs. The World" right now.
It certainly seems that every time a coach is fired midseason, the team whose coach was fired comes out the next game and plays very well. I don't have any numbers on that, but it certainly feels that way. Perhaps that will bode well for us tonight.

While we are correcting all the spelling, can I point out that the game is at 730pst and not 7? I will be there, and I hope I witness dysfunction or I will be confused. I expect the halftime show to be Mark Jackson leading us in prayer, Reggie Evans isos, boring and repetitive dancing by fit women that I still watch for some reason, people yelling and waving their arms for a 1 cent foam mini basketball, Stauskas' shot to hit the side of the backboard, and Chris Mullin walking out in the Slamson costume to coach the 2nd half. Style.

Haway the Kings!!!

A late tip off (3:30am) coupled with the last day or so gives me little excitement about this game, but im still here waiting up for tip off! dont know what that makes me, addicted or troubled!
