Actually those "rumors" sometimes quite reliable if it's say twit by Marc Stein. I don't know if this blogger is as reliable as Stein, but even if so and he knows from some sources (and not just guessing as all of us here) that Kings want to trade D-Will and his expiring contract - it would be interesting if it were rumor like "talks about possible trade with team X: D-Will (or D-Will + ...) for players and/or picks or cash " or at least "teams X and Y are looking at D-Will".
Except that I know that Marc Stein can be considered 'reliable', if biased, because Marc Stein is an actual journalist. He might, primarily, be a blogger now, but before he became a full-time blogger, he was an actual journalist, who worked for an actual newspaper. I can read something by Marc Stein and know that, even if he turns out to be wrong, I don't have to worry about him making **** up. I don't know that about Rui Thomas, if he's even the one who broke the story, and isn't simply repeating something he found elsewhere on the internet.

And, anyway, did you actually read the page that Sac.Kings linked to? It's not even a rumor: it's an editorial/blog, disguised as a rumor. He didn't even bother to go, "Sources say," or "There are rumors floating that..." It's nothing but a straight speculation piece.

I personally know him. He has no inside information into what is going on. He's simply a fan...

it has been suspected numerous times around kf.com that derrick williams could be getting extended minutes as a "showcase" for trade, but i don't recall there being any official reports suggesting that this was true. unless i missed something?
No not reported but it does have the feel of a Showcase for DWill. You cant really say he has earned the minutes he has gotten. Unless he is just busting loose in practice and we are not yet seeing it in games. And it is not like he has played horribly. But Casspi SHOULD be getting some run for all the reasons that have been mentioned in this thread. Casspi is a spark plug and a great bench player. He has come along well in his professional career. His drives to the basket are relentless.

It may not have been reported. But it sure is being insinuated.

No offense, but the equine has expired.

Welp. Maybe Malone had a reason for not playing Omri.

Omri Casspi (left knee bone contusion) is out for the Kings.
That's seriously funny to me. If Casspi was hurt the last two games, is Malone still an idiot? It's hard to say if he was hurt based on that tweet.

When did he get hurt? Has he been unavailable the last two games?

Cmon Jason jones!

Seems like a lot of anger here could have been spared if a media member had maybe asked about casspi.

I think the only reason Jones tweeted this when he did is because somebody handed him the injury report. I thought RE Graswich was the worst beat writer in the history of Sacramento sports. I was wrong, very wrong. Jaones has taken the whole thing to a level previously undiscovered. I'd rather have a couple of kids from a local high school journalism class cover the Kings.

That's kind of the ten thousand dollar question, ain't it? Right now, the only thing we know is that Casspi isn't going to play tonight because of an injury. As he wasn't on the injury report the previous two games, there's no real reason to believe that that's why he didn't play, until or unless either he or Malone says so.

Wait...

LBJ out of the Cleveland game with some kind of vague knee "problem"

Omri out of the Sacramento game with some kind of knee "problem"

I wouldn't want him on this team, even if the chance were there. That would be like crossing over to the Dark Side

Maybe we are lucky to know about tonight. Who's running this asylum?

Only strange thing is- I didn't see him at all tonight, he wasn't there. Not on the bench or anywhere.
So- is he really that much injured, that he couldn't even sit on the bench with the team?
The last 2 games he was on the bench. Does that mean he was heavily injured during practice, after the Lakers game? Or his so called injury got worse after the Lakers game?
Very strange stuff indeed. o_O

He was sitting next to Boogie.

Your last statement hit it. Also, if you just trust Malone you could save yourself this. Casspi looked good sitting next to Cuz. Tough game tonight.

There are several events: Casspi is playing worse and Williams better than before. Then Casspi is not playing and Williams got his minutes, then Casspi is injured and got injection.
Some of them are coincidences and some not. We just don't have enough information
I was thinking that attribute Casspi's benching to unreported injury is conspiracy theory... maybe I was completely wrong. If it was only game with Utah I would beleive Malone decided not to use Casspi because he wasn't fully fit and he even said something strange like "glad we didn't need him today" ... but they probably needed him against Lakers but still he wasn't playing... so why he was suited to play? Actually I'm quite confused.

It's absolutely been stupid. Omri has been one of the most consistent and top bench guys this season on any team. He's rebounding well, his efficiency is through the roof, and he's even been a solid contributor with playmaking.

I could maybe understand showcasing D-Will when we're at full strength and can mitigate the loss of Omri. But even then, he's been one of our best players this season... there's absolutely no excuse he doesn't get 18-20 MPG
Right. We're already lacking talent with Cousins out, and you CHOOSE to deplete us further, by taking Casspi
away? Why the hell hasn't anyone in the media asked him about this? beyond weird.

Nobody asks any tough questions, because they don't want to "ruffle any feathers". Looking out for their job security. It's understandable, but at the same time, don't expect them to help us actually get to the bottom of any mysterious and questionable issues with this team. It won't happen

http://www.nba.com/kings/blog/kings-notes-boogie-casspi-return

Some official update from the Kings.
Although his timetable to return is still at least a week away, DeMarcus Cousins returned to the practice facility on Thursday for a light post-practice workout. Omri Casspi, who has missed the last three contests due to a left knee bone contusion, also returned to practice and could be back as soon as Saturday night versus Detroit as the team looks to get back to .500 on the season.
So Omri conveniently is going to be better immediately after our stretch of nationally-televised games where Derrick Williams took his minutes?

Some of you mentioned how Casspi has really steped up for the Kings this year.
Just to show Omri's overall impact - Here are the teams advanced stats over the beginning of the season (23 games).

Kings Advanced Player Stats. Open "all" and sort by WS/48

I'm definitely NOT saying Casspi's contribution to the Kings is greater than or even equal to Rudy's or DC's (It's not even close), but note how Kings' roster is ranked on Win Shares per 48 minutes:

1. Demarcus Cousins - 0.209
2. Omri Casspi - 0.154
3. Darren Collison - 0.150
4. Rudy Gay - 1.48
...
5 - 14. rest of team - 1.19 (Hollins) down to -0.02 (Sessions)

I'm not sure how the Win Share measure is calculated on this site (basketball-reference.com),
but it seems pretty impressive that Omri is ranked that high up on WS
(4th overall, 2nd per minute)

Grant interviewed Michael Malone on his radio show Friday, and asked him what the deal was with Derrick Williams getting minutes and Omri getting two DNP-CD. Coach Malone responded by saying that the back-up small forward battle has been pretty even from the start, and Derrick William's is essentially getting his turn because he has earned it. Malone said that Derrick had several good games lately, while Casspi had 2 back to back sub par games, therefore Derrick got those minutes for now.

Given this information, I would expect Omri to be back in the small forward line-up when 1) healthy, 2) Derrick Williams demonstrates less efficiency offensively, and 3) Omri practices well and it carries over to the next game when given opportunity. It sounds like Coach Malone thinks this is still a very close race...

While I agree with everything there, I don't understand why we can't play our two most explosive players off the bench together? Would Derrick or Casspi be any worse defending or shooting at SG than Nik? Assuming we are trying to win games you have to give those guys every single game a chance to show maybe it's there day on any given night. If Derrick can keep shooting 3's like he has been playing him and Casspi together should be no problem. We need contributions from both, we need Casspi's fire and nifty slashing/passing (no one helps ball movement more than him and Collison) and we need Derrick's energizing dunks/athletic plays and at times explosive scoring.

This is exactly what I've been wondering. Instead of playing Landry and DWill together, DWill and Casspi together appears to me like a much better combination. Casspi makes the plays and DWill finishes. DWill with Landry stagnates the game and the ball doesn't move.

So, according to the NBA.com article, casspi missed the last 3 games due to a knee contusion. Sketchy article, cause it said cousins "timetable to return is at least a week away". And then Malone's quote seems to indicate he might, maybe, PRACTICE in a week. That's noteworthy, but not the return I'm most interested in.

Not sure where this places malone on the idiot scale regarding casspi, or if that is even true. If true, some people were way off going crazy on malone for his rotations in LA, cause a lot of the critics were focusing on not playing casspi at all, who seems to have been unavailable. Maybe.

To answer the thread, hurt seems to be the answer. Allegedly.

Malone also said Williams was playing better. This is all odd. Get oliver stone involved!

Dwill/landry is a horrible combo. Both are among the worst passers in the NBA and both are below avg rebounders. The team is better with a healthy casspi. Not sure if the poor play going into these 3 straight nights on the bench were related to the injury.

Apparently no one in the media, still, feels like asking when the injury occurred. Now according to another article apparently casspi only missed the last two games. Could have sworn it was 3.

It's either a conspiracy or crapty reporting by writers who follow the Kings much less closely than people here. I'm leaning toward the later.

"After missing the team's previous two games, Omri Casspi has been added to the team's injury report with a left knee bone contusion and has been upgraded to probable for tonight's game against the Detroit Pistons (4-19)."
