Kings & Rudy Gay reach agreement on 3 year contract extension!

YES!!! This is a great deal. It seems like Rudy signed at a bit of a discount which certainly helps the team acquire another good player. And I'm excited that Rudy will be here long term. Nice!! I'm definitely excited to see how this team continues to improve.

We are 6-4 after a very tough schedule.

We got Gay for the next 2-3 years without overpaying.

Awesome job PDA and keep up the good work!

And thank you very much Mr. Gay!

7-3 - PORTLAND
5-3 - CLIPPERS

2-7 - DENVER
5-5 - PHOENIX

Are people going to stop calling PDA "Gerbil" yet? I don't believe I had called him Gerbil yet, well maybe after the Robin Lopez thing but He's definitely turning the culture of the Kings in the right direction, and Malone is definitely coaching them well right now.

Using my poor math skills, I come up with something around $12.5 mil in the first year of his contract, and if he were to opt in, around $14.3 mil in the third year. That would mean with the cap projected to be $66.5 mil, we would be around $11.9 mil under the cap. Of course that excludes resigning Casspi or Moreland. Resign them for what we were paying them this year, and that puts us around 10 mil under the cap. Certainly enough to sign a good player. If we can clear a little more space, maybe we can go after one of the top players in freeagency. But in the meantime, I'm happy we got Gay's signing out of the way. Nice to know what the core of the team is going to be going forward. Depending on what the team does this season, having both Cousins and Gay in the fold, could be very appealing to freeagents we might be interested in. Hey, we're 6 and 4, and we've resigned Gay. It's a good day!
The Kings have a team option for Moreland for the next two seasons at a very cheap (relatively speaking) rate.

Right now, he's:

Super Gerbil!

I actually may be one of the few who found the term endearing, even if it was meant as an insult. But yeah, things are currently looking his way. Whether it's his moves or Malone's coaching is a discussion for another time, but for right now, he's doing all of the right things and we should give praise where it's due.

Hall of Famer
I can see where Pete is going with signing him for a three year deal, I thought he was going to get a 4-5 year deal. Collison and Gay signed for the next three seasons to see if this PG and SF duo can compliment Cousins enough to make the playoffs and then hopefully make some noise. It also speaks volumes about Rudy taking less money and leaving the team with much more cap flexibility to add more pieces to this team, great job Pete!

and it doesn't get easier just yet. With Pelicans/Bulls coming up to finish off the home stand. Then on the road against the T-Wolves, Pelicans, Rockets, Spurs

Very accurate. He took a bunch of worthless junk (Salmons,Hayes, etc) and turned it into a guy that is currently playing like a top 3 SF in the league. And then happened to get that guy to commit to the team on an extension. Outstanding work if you ask me

The player I have watched this year compared to the other players of similar salary is well worth the contract. This is a very good price for him and and even bigger statement on the future viability of the Kings as a legitimate player in the NBA landscape for the next few years.

This just shows that Rudy appreciates being in Sac. Really, the difference between 13 mil and 16 mil a year is not that much, percentage wise. When you've got that much money, if you're smart about it and invest properly, generations of your family will be set for life. It's not about squeezing out a few million over a career that will pay this guy 150mil plus. His way of thinking shouldn't be the exception, although it is. He found a home with a team that is committed to winning. That's worth a lot.

The bonus for Rudy is that is rehabs his image. He knows he wasn't worth 19 mil the past few years, so it evens out anyway. Could even lead to more money in endorsements. It'll certainly lead to greater appreciation by the fans. And if that means something to Rudy, we're all happy about that. To me the move makes perfect sense for all parties.

This is one of the benefits of having an owner like Vivek. No player in his right mind makes a similar sacrifice for the Maloofs. The positivity all trickles down.

perfect stuff. We're set moving forward. Already so much noise with our team as is being able to hold their own against any in this league. This ensures that our floor is set and we can only go up from here moving forward.

Perfect 2nd piece next to boogie and i look forward to a few good seasons of Rudy magic. RUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Excellent news! Great deal for us, and I think Rudy also gave us a bit of a discount considering the money he is on this season.

Anyway, didn't extensions need to be done by end of October?! Am I missing something here?

I hope Andre Iguodala will one day be somewhere kicking himself, if he isn't already. There's a different kind of special bond
this team has with it's fans here in Sacramento, and he'll never have that feeling. His loss.
