The Kings sign Ryan Hollins

Why the hell would Boston do that trade? It's not like they're in need of cap space (I'm fairly certain if they were trying to open space, they'd rather try to move Gerald Wallace's rapidly aging butt instead of an expiring contract).
Because if u read the Bass story then you'll understand why
The whole article was about Boston not having room (stacked with young bigs) and needing to trade Bass.

That's why

Ok so why do we need Bass? We don't, but maybe we do since he's undersized and not a starting level PF we love those type of guys.

Because it is part of a trade that gets us JOSH SMITH
Who we are targeting.

U don't read/listen too well.
My point was that I can see a 3team take shape if I squint hard enough.

Your complaining means nothing to me.

Sad thing is I don't see any way for us to get a defensive big next to DMC and Lopez was top 5 in rim protection. your only chance at Sanders is before the season cause if he exposes again bucks won't trade him if he's terrible we won't trade for him.
We had Lopez in our damn hands no we are on a never ending search for one.
That's what happens when a) you don't value or recognize a defensive player, even when he falls into your lap and b) don't have a plan.

That being said, ladies and gents, let's be thankful we finally have a defensive center to backup Boogie.

My take is I don't mind him as a 3rd string center. He's better than most in that role. If, however, he's PDA's answer to our rim protection issues, YIKES.

Well, Hollins is no Zo, but not many were going to stop that one.

Yea it's getting pretty close to the season now and for a while there we all had hopes that a big move was coming. But here we are just a couple of weeks from the start of preseason and we still have JT, Landry, Williams, Evans, etc

But hey we added Omri Casspi and Ryan Hollins o_O

I don't mind Casspi and Hollins as backups/end of bench guys. I think we are evaluating them as the big moves we hoped for but they are solid moves that help us. We just need to fill a big need (rim protector in my opinion) and then hopefully let chemistry and time do its thing.

Sac
Out- (Terry) TPE, McLemore, 4 million in cap space
In- Josh Smith, 2nd round pick

In- Josh Smith, Bass, two 2nd round picks
The technical problem with these proposals from our side is that you can't combine the TPE with other salaries (or other TPEs, for that matter) to match a larger salary. Well, that and the fact that we don't have 4 million in cap space. We have zero in cap space.

To get Smith, we have to send out at least $8.93M to match salary (while also staying under the luxury tax apron, because we spent our MLE on Collison, which hard caps us there). McLemore is not sufficient. McLemore and JT could in principle do it (if the Pistons agreed), but acquiring Brandon Bass would require sending out another salary (say Landry or Williams, again, if the Celtics agreed). Terry's TPE is not big enough to acquire Bass.

All these splashy trades being mooted are great and all but it takes two to tango sadly.

Monroe, basically, opting out has made smith way more important to Detroit. Unless he's an absolute locker room poison I don't see why they bite on JT and Ben.

Might not be splashy but I give the FO credit for casting a wide net. Beggars can't be choosers.

Hollins does the Aaron Gray role just fine and those guys are the ones you want at the end of your bench. Hollins is a long-time vet and has experience being on playoff rosters, which does have some use to a young team.

I think it is not bye bye JT , unless a trade happens someday

But it may mean JT will no longer have to Back up Cuz at the 5, Hollins can do 15 min there

Jt can then play his natural position at the 4, Landry if he is truly healthy should be the backup 4 to provide scoring off the bench with Nik or maybe Omri

As much as I like Evans, with a healthy Landry and 7ft Hollins to pair with, I think he would be the 5th Big and Moreland the 6th

JT or Landry do look like trade bait with their reasonable contract amounts. I doubt anyone would be afraid of the years remaining on either contract given the types of deals handed out this Summer.

Seems to lock up that Bullar will get cut in camp and head to Reno as a free agent, not assigned to Reno as one of the Kings contracts. I don't care about Hollins, but giving him a guaranteed deal to be our sucky backup center appears to indicate that our potentially quirky owner was willing to relinquish control over Bullar's D-League rights in the event he miraculously blows up down there. Enough odd things have gone down recent, that a little sanity over the 15th roster spot is nice.

Typical Kings summer, overpay for a mid tier talent and add scrub pieces at the end.
If we're doing an evaluation of the summer at face value, you're absolutely correct. I cant help but have a different perspective on it considering that since the new regime's inception they have flat out been the most aggressive. We wouldnt have seen anything like this past year with the previous F.O. So while it is frustrating that we still aren't a playoff team, the wheels that will get us there are turning. After all, these are the pains that we must suffer through while this team pulls itself out of its own puddle of vomit.

Agreed. As aggressive as our front office has been, if there was a trade for a star player to be had that was reasonable, we would have made it.

I'm looking forward to what VF has to say after her many "Ryan Hollins sucks so bad I could die" rants last season :D
Excuse me? My aging memory must be failing me. Could you provide me with some links to those "many...rants" of which you speak?

EDIT: Unless you're referring to my comments during a Clippers game, that is. I didn't like him whining to the officials about DMC if memory serves. I don't think that counts as "Ryan Hollins sucks so bad I could die" ...
