Sheridan August Power Rankings

No, You guys were just bad last year. A new coach that doesn't make the same mistakes hasn't really done any better. Coach Smart wasn't a good coach but you guts weren't 10 games better without him.
Not accounting for huge roster overhaul or improved western conference. Despite records, the Jazz are far worse.

As bad as smart was, hard to see plus 10-15 wins just based on new coaching. The talent remains mediocre at best, with only cousins being a legit above avg nba starter, at this point. M16 may turn into a star. But that seems years away. Whatever the case with him, it's a better pick than the last two lotteries. At least he has upside.

I see us better than Phoenix and Utah. Maybe. Utah is super young, but has more talent than we do. We are deep in avg talent. So we won't be awful. But 9th in west? That'd be shocking.

If cousins doesn't 'leap' this year, it's completely blow it up time. We are kinda just perpetuating mediocrity with signings like Landry. Interesting Sheridan says we can't sign 30 something's to cap filling contracts, yet the 29 year old Landry was a good signing. Huh! Isn't Landry the definition of a cap filling 30 something, despite being 29? I agree with the premise, but the execution suffered a LOT.

No way Dallas is that bad. Not with a healthy dirk. Certainly not title contenders, but bottom of the west? Nah.
Not too bad. No one really saw Phoenix being as good as they are. Or the lakers completely tanking.

Still got the positioning right. 13th in the west. Somewhere else I'm pretty sure I said 28-32 wins. That's almost a mortal lock at this point.

And no, Dallas was not that bad.

The good news? We now have two legit nba starters. The bad? Mclemore still looks years away. I stand by the upside statement. And Landry. He'll be 31 when next season begins.

While cousins did 'leap', through trades and cuts, we left ourselves with an abysmal defensively challenged inexperienced guard rotation. The trades were a net zero, and didn't change my original win projection one bit. While we upgraded with rudy, we downgraded in the guard ranks. Now we have to hope our trio of young guards figures things out quickly or we are going into next season with the same yet different bottom of the west roster.

My point had nothing to do with the Jazz, my point was that coach Smart while not a good coach, didn't lose 7-10 games for the Kings. Coaches just don't have that much control over bad rosters with young players.

To your point, you are what your record says you are. To convince yourself that your team is much, much better than a team with a similar record is delusional.

Actually, I have to think Keith Smart's "rotation patterns" cost us at least 4-5 games and possibly more. (I could go into detail but that would mean digging back into the game threads from last year and I simply do not have the heart to do that...) There was NO LOGIC whatsoever to his substitution patterns, his use of the talent he had, etc. Evans' proponents will argue with some success that Smart's usage of him alone doomed us on multiple occasions.

But, having said that, who cares? The only thing worse than microanalyzing this year's failures is attempting to retroactively microanalyze last year's failures.
