Wiz does great recovery on major error

What do you guys think of Wiz's move? It takes some guts to admit that you screwed up big time by passing over Cheryl Ford at 2 to pick a 6-6 stiff. Looking at the roster, the only thing I will miss about Chantelle is her beautiful smile and appearance.Wiz humbled himself for the sake of preserving a solid group of 13 finalists who deserve slots somewhere on the team roster lists. Nice move Wiz! Just don't get suckered into the "You can't teach size argument again." Now we can root for Conn. to have a lousy year so we can land a "big "next year who can actually do something. You get another chance to do it right. I really like the group that remains. The only question now is which 2 go to the IL. There could be enough genuine injuries that they won't have to fake 2 injuries.(Haynie,FeFe?). I am starting to get excited about the season start.

I was planning on doing that EXACT thing Raybrun...rooting against Connecticut in a big way ;) And as competitive as both conferences should be this season, it won't take much to separate a playoff team from a lottery team.

I don't think it was a misread on Whiz and Reynolds parts on Anderson, I think over the two preseason games in Sacramento we finally saw her play like she was expected to when they drafted her. I also think that the jury was out on Ford during the draft that year too re: whether she was really as good as her senior year numbers were showing - she didn't have a lot of quality bigs in the WAC and she was virtually invisible prior to her senior year. So I don't fault the decision. If Dan Hughes would have selected the player he reportedly wanted the most, we'da had two seasons of LaToya Thomas here.

With that said, I absolutely agree that it takes a WHOLE lotta guts to part ways with your lottery pick and start over from square one. That's part of what I've liked about Whisenant the last couple of years is that he shoots straight and tells it like it is. I may not always want to hear what he's saying, but at least I know he doesn't fluff. Somebody said it somewhere, I can't remember if I read it here and I think Coach T touched on it on Monarchs Talk last night too, the pure brilliance of this move was the fact that he nabbed another first round pick in the 2006 draft. Besides the fact that we get essentially a do-over for the 2003 draft - we're going to lose at least one player in the Chicago expansion draft so now he's got either some more chips to use to trade for a veteran to fill that roster hole we'll have or to select another couple of young players next year one of which could be our center for the future. He also possibly has moved enough cap space with this trade to keep everybody he currently has on the roster. It sounded like Whiz was very inclined to use both IR spaces. Again, given the fact that we've got an expansion draft lurking, I am glad that he's not going to have to part ways with anybody else in camp.

This guy had a wonderful offseason as GM. And the team he has put out on the floor looks good too. And I think the infusion of newbies will help this team get over the early season blahs the Monarchs notoriously have had in the past.
