Why did we not go after Swift?

I just don't understand why the Kings didn't try to go after the very athletic swift who is currently only averaging around 20 minutues a night with Houston. I believe he is a guy that could be averaging around 15-17 points with 9-10 rebounds and best of all shot blocking ability (a guy who can defend the post). He is clearly being underused in Houston and I believe he could have had a huge impact with the Kings. What do you guys think?

If I remember correctly he did not want to come here according to Bobby Jackson after he was traded.

Swift has the tools the Kings need, but he doesn't use them correctly, for any team's purposes, on the defensive end of the floor. He doesn't play defense consistently, rebound consistently, etc. It's one thing to see Brad Miller get worked over in the post because he is outmatched from a talent and athleticism perspective. It'd be quite another to watch a man with few peers from an athleticism perspective get abused on defense in the post, imho.

Stromile is overrated. I have him on my fantasy squad and this fool is garbage. All he really has is athleticism and shot blocking abilities but his ability to score is terrible. Never liked the idea of him coming to Sac.

Stro's not really a starter yet, and I couldn't see him doing too well here in that role. I'd love to have him on the bench though.

one word, inconsistent.
would you want to bring him off the bench when you don't know what he's gonna bring every night?

Never been high on Swift..... Just an athletic freak and nothing else. No basketball smarts whatsoever. He's gonna move around the league alot.

Swift is definitely the type of player that any team with Brad Miller at the 5 has to consider if there's hope for any sort of interior presence. The guy is athletic and can block shots, and you need someone like that to cover Brad's weaknesses.

Of course, being the complete opposite of Brad on the defensive end seems to come with the same on offense in this case. Has little hoops IQ, and one would think he would destroy the offensive flow. Still, our offense managed to incorporate one Keon Clark for a season, and there's hope that the same could be done with Swift. Of course, we spent the MLE on the more talented SAR, clearly the better fit for our offense, but does little to nothing for the defensive woes inside.

agreed lpkingsfan. at least we have someone we can throw the rock to on the low block and can create/finish. out of all the games i've seen stro play i've never seen him on the low block. his game is mainly on put backs

Because he's all hype - no substance. He's awful.

Because he's garbage.

Just what all the Houston people thought.

best of all shot blocking ability (a guy who can defend the post).

This is an irritating sentiment and completely wrong. Let me state for the record: Shot blocking ability DOES NOT translate into a good defender.

Swift will make the highlight reel with an occational block, but they aren't on his man. They are usually made at the expense OF HIS MAN. He follows the ball and doesn't know thing one about proper position on the floor.

This is why he can't sniff real minutes in Houston.

Guys used to call him Slowmile Swift for a reason. He's dumber than a stump when it comes to basketball related IQ.

Who cares about his scoring abilities...

I was at the Toronto game last Friday and I swear that half of the Raptor's shots were lay-ups. The guy wouldn't have to be a scorer on this team because we have enough of that already. I would just love to see us add another guy like well's (in this case swift) that could come in a knock some people around? If we had another one of these guys maybe teams would'nt be putting up 105 points a game on us becasue there wouldn't be so eager to come into the middle. The kings interior defense plays softer than middle school teams that I've coached

First, Wells doesn't really "knock people around" on defense. His defense has been a little lackluster in comparison to the past.

Second, Swift isn't going to knock people around. He gets a few weak side blocks, but he isn't playing hard nosed defense. He doesn't body up and muscle people. He's a guy that jumps at every ball and plays out of position to get the block.

You obviously have ZERO clue as to how Swift plays defense.

Did you watch Brad Miller REPEATEDLY drive by him? Brad Miller... okay?

Stromile Swift is plays EXTREMELY soft. He gets a few highlight blocks on the help side, but not from playing good defense. He's just a ball chaser and gets a few blocks because of it.

Houston thought they were getting that "solid interior defender" in Swift ... and they are quickly finding that they aren't getting what they thought they were.

Stromile is not going to EVER be a reliable player in this league IMO. People would always say that its cause he was coming off the bench. But he still got some time and showed nothing. He's been in the league for 5 years already!!! Wouldn't he have shown something other than the ability to dunk the ball?

He can block a few shots, but he is NOT an interior presense! I mean, watch him play. One game he'll look good, than for the next 5 he looks like crap.
